It's a sad, sad day......

in that British Woman's house......my beloved red Dell Laptop has gone away for a vacation. Where you ask, to dd house. For how long, no idea.

Dd laptop went KAPUT again the other day. This isn't the first time this has happened, infact it's the fourth time it has happened. Now to cut a long and miserable story short, she faxed over her receipt to HP on Thursday and she should be getting 80% of the money back on the receipt. How she got to this point is long and painful, but basically they knew she meant business and within an hour and a half of being on the phone she was through to a case manager and had a case number etc. Which may not seem like an achievement, but believe me it was a great achievement. It can take days before a case manager speaks to you.

So as dd is still in school (final semester of her graduate studies), she needs access to the Internet. Dd boyfriend only has a desktop and it doesn't have a wireless connection which is what they need where they live. So I was gracious enough to offer up my laptop until she gets another one.

Dd was talking to HP yesterday and they seemed to think she would have her money within a month???? Dd of course doesn't want to buy another computer, until she knows for certain how much money she is getting back, and when. Which to my mind is very prudent.

So I am now having to use our desktop in the spare bedroom. I normally work on my blog and on the Internet in the family room when I am watching tv. So last night it was strange, no laptop. I sat and did some more of my cross stitch which was fine, but I am missing my little red Dell.

Dh is always saying I am addicted to the computer, and I have to finely admit I am. I just pray and hope my poor little baby is not away too long. Meanwhile I will be sitting by myself in the spare bedroom......

That's a sad a sorry tale. I hope the money comes a little sooner than you plan. I like the portability of my laptop so I understand your pangs of withdrawal.

Ya know the laptop is fine once in a while but I prefer my desktop int he den. I don't like the mouse on the lap top and I get tired of messing with the wireless one. I do tend to yell at it too so that don't help. I don't think it likes me too much.

Nothing worse..... my mobile has just died and I am using my son's old one and not enjoying it at all. Everything is different and I can't find anything....

awww, I know just what you mean. The thought of no computer at all of any kind!! (catches breath, don't panic) booked a holiday last night, we can't wait, what sealed the deal on the house we going to, there is a internet cafe up the road!!! so we can plug in, how sad is that.

You're a good Mom! I hope your DD is satisfied with the results she gets - IMO they should replace her whole laptop or give her a full refund!

Hopefully you'll get yours back soon. In the meantime turn on some music while your working on the computer and enjoy a cup of tea.

Oh I can so relate. My advise is to enjoy it, take a couple of days to simply sit and read and relax!

Oooh a tough one, very virtuous of you to lend yours out, there will be brownie points for that. LOL my first thought when you said you were in the spare room was "but not naked I hope",,,,re Mean Mom's post. hehe (Although on second thoughts that's ridiculous, given our temperatures at the moment). :)

There is a another long and complicated story as to why they will only give her 80% of the value of her computer. Honestly the whole situation is a nightmare, so at this point all she wants is her money and never have to talk to HP again!!

I've had to do without my laptop, so I feel your pain! I do all my blogging and browsing in a comfy chair in front of the fire, and when I couldn't....ooooh I missed it!

You're a strong woman....you'll make it!!! lol

DD had to get a Dell laptop for her studies in law school. In the 3 years she was there, she had 2 motherboards replaced and I forget what else. Piece of crap.

We just got a new desktop in Aug--our other computer was bought in 2000, so you know it was a dinosaur with a very small memory. I'm loving the new one, but it does sit in the living room, so the rule is, the person on the computer does not get to control the TV too.

Within the next few days we should get our mini-notebook from HP, which will allow me to fiddle on it in the sewing room, or kitchen while J-Man is on the desktop. We don't have a wireless connection yet, but might decide to get one after a while. I'm really looking forward to having it on vacations.

Hi Gill
Thanks for your visit to my blog. I'm having fun reading about your weather woes, all your great recipes and your string blocks. Those string blocks are so addicting, aren't they? I have a bin full of them. I'm determined to make them into quilts this year. I'll be stopping by often to check your progress.

Oh, the things we do for our children. Actually, I'm still using a desktop computer -- I haven't made the leap to a laptop, although I'm tempted.

you folk who sit other places and compute?? My dau does that. Although I am o laptop, i feel I need a base toher than my lap or knee. Maybe its because I have no lap teehee

That's a shame Gill. However it's what Mams do.

My Dell lap top is a lovely bluey green shade. Isn't it funny what a difference colour makes. My husband's new Toshiba is black, nice but very male and drab.

I find I get no shoulder, arm, wrist and back problems sitting on the settee with my lap top and leaning back against the cushions. If I use a PC on a desk I get awful pains.

I dread anything going wrong with mine so hope yours enjoys its holiday but comes home soon.

We only have the desktop and have just moved it downstairs from the spare bedroom. Thinking we may have to get a laptop though when we eventually move! So, will be thinking of you in the spare room - been there, done that! Hope you are soon re-united with your beloved red Dell. A x

I think we all would have to admit we are so used to our internet, that it's so routine now to get and share information... that we feel out of sorts with out it. Kind of like wearing a watch.
