Today's Flower

This is the last of my Amaryllis bulbs that I bought on sale. I think this one is the prettiest. Sorry about the quality of the photos, but the light is awful today, as it is overcast and raining here in Southern Ontario. Click on the photos to see more detail, especially on the first one.

I had a question for all you flower lovers. What do I do with the bulbs when they have finished flowering? I am in Southern Ontario, Canada, which I think is a Zone 5.

Good News..........

Our House is:

The buyers did a home inspection on Friday and signed off on all the waivers. So we will be moving from this house on May 1st.

Here are a couple of photos of the house we are buying, it was a pretty overcast day and it was raining:

We close on this house on April 28th, as the place is filthy and I wanted a couple of days to make a start on the cleaning before we move our stuff in.

It's a 1907 house, with a formal living room, country kitchen/dining room, a full bathroom and a mud room extension on the side. On the back of the house is an extension with a main floor family room, and a big room underneath it with a patio door walk out. That room will be partitioned off to make a laundry room, and a large rec room.

Upstairs there were three bedrooms, but one has been knocked into one big one, which will be ours, plus a spacious double bedroom. Another full bathroom, and there is a door in the bathroom which leads up to the attic.

We need to insulate the attic, add a couple more windows and move the stairs and that is going to be a great sewing room/bedroom. There is a bit of work to be done on this house, but we are so looking forward to moving.

Then there are 4.8 acres of land, that is going to be so much fun sorting all that out. My birthday is coming up in the middle of the month and I have requested a pair of pink wellies/rain boots for my birthday off ds, as I am going to be out in the garden a lot, as it is a wilderness!!

I should say we have named this place Windy Hill, as its on the top of a hill and is quite exposed and windy!!!

What Oopsey was up to on Thursday........

First let me say, when I told dd what I was up to, she rolled her eyes and said, people will think I have been let out of the mental institution for the day!! I wish, as at least if I was in there I would have a rest......

Anyhow, me and dd decided to go for a look around Bloor West Village in Toronto. Never been before, so thought it would make a nice change.

So we leave dd apartment and call into Tim Hortons on the way to the Subway. Oopsey was very interested in all this as there is no Tim Hortons in Australia. She thought it was a good idea that we got a tea each and a muffin, I told her I would share with her.

She wanted me to take a photo of her in the Subway station, but even though the flash went off on the camera, this was the best photo I could get, and dd sort of put her foot down at me taking a photo of me and Oopsey in the train. I don't know what her problem was, as there are so many weird and wonderful people on there, so one more weirdo taking photos with a Care Bear wouldn't have made much difference!!

So we get to Bloor West Village and it's like a small town main street, with lots of lovely shops, including a butcher, baker and candlestick maker.....okay not a candlestick maker, but a greengrocer. Dd wanted to call into a store called Trove, as she wanted to pick up an apron for her friend for her birthday.

Oopsey wanted to pose for a photo with the apron, cute saying on it, don't you think?

All along the street were benches and on the legs were the Bloor West Village logo, so of course Oopsey wanted her photo taken with it (made dd hold Oopsey, so that cheered her up no end!!)

By then it was lunch time, so dd and I decide Subway would be good, told Oopsey I would share with her, and that seemed fine.

We then had another look around and then headed home on the subway. Walking out off the subway Oopsey saw this big office tower and was fascinated with it, so I took a couple of photos of her in front of it.

Poor Oopsey, was pooped by the time she got home and had to have a nap.

So all in all it was a good day out and Oopsey seemed to enjoy herself.

Now I have to say I am pretty busy with this moving thing, so I think Oopsey would benefit from having a longer stay at someone elses house. So if you would like to have Oopsey visit your house, please let me know in your comment, and I'll do a draw to see where her next visit will be. Buddy's Friday..........What a waste...........

I bought the February issue of the Prima Magazine and on the back page there is a full page ad that says:

"A THIRD OF THE FOOD WE BUY IN THE UK ENDS UP BEING THROWN AWAY"

That is just crazy, when you think of all the starving people in the world. I am quite sure this not only happens in the UK but a lot of the countries around the world. That line certainly caught my attention and basically it directed you to visit http://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/ to learn how to reduce your food waste.

The basic concepts are simple. Only buy what you are going to use. Check expiry dates when buying things, so you can make sure you have enough time to use the product. Freeze leftovers or take them for lunch the next day. Plan your menu before you go shopping, so that way you only buy what you need. It's not really rocket science, all it requires from you is to be organized and plan ahead of the game.

Skywatch Friday

This week I thought I'd show you some photos of the Angel Oak tree in Charleston SC. Clink on the link to read more about it. I love the last photo the best, the way I took the photo looking up through the branches at the sky.

Look who came to visit........

That is Oopsey who came to visit me from Caroline's in Australia, it's funny how she made herself at home sitting on my chair!!!

Now I have to say Oopsey was NOT impressed with how cold it was and to see the snow, after leaving such hot temperatures in Australia.

She was also not overly happy about us moving, until I told her not to worry about it, it wasn't going to happen while she was visiting!!!

So to make her feel better I told her I would take her with me on a trip to Downtown Toronto, that cheered her up no end!!!

So look for more of Oopsey's adventures on either Saturday or Sunday. Also I will let you know how you can have Oopsey come to visit and show her your part of the world then.

In between hands check out this post on Caroline's site to tell you more of how this all came about.
