Random photos from down the town.......

We went to a wedding on Saturday, so I prepared this post Saturday morning.  I took all the photos from my car when I drove through town earlier in the week.  Don't worry I was either stopped at the lights, or stopped for turning traffic when I took each one.  None are particularly interesting but I did include a couple of facts with some of them.

Giant Tiger is a Canadian firm sort of like a grocery store, that also sells clothes, and house wares, a bit of everything.  We had a smaller one in town, but they moved to this new premises which is a lot, lot bigger.  It was where the old Zellers used to be.  Haven't been in it yet, as I couldn't be bothered to go in.  I went to the store to the right of it Mark's Work Wearhouse to get dh a new dress shirt for the wedding.  They sell the best shirts there.

The town Alliston has adopted a phrase called "RURBAN," a cross between Urban and Rural.  I get it,  we are a bit of both.  It was a small farming town with limited other industries until a Honda Plant came into town in 1989.  It has since expanded at a rapid rate.
I took this photo to illustrate how dismal it looks this time of year with no green in the grass or on the trees.  I call this "the dirty time of year."  Once Spring is in full flow, things look prettier.
I love this store in the middle of town it has a bit of everything for the house.  We got our end tables for the living room for there.  Once I save up enough money I'll be buying more things from them.
If you look in the distance you can see a church steeple?
Here is that church closer up.  It's St. John's United Church   I couldn't find a definitive age of when this church was built.
All in all not overly exciting but if you click on the links it may be more interesting for you.

Just a look at the town in which we live.

Mcdonalds...."I'm Lovin' it,".......I think not!!

Have to say we have never set foot in McDonald's in an awful long time, infact I don't remember the last time we ate there.  A burger in McDonald's has the same effect on me as taking a packet of laxatives!!!  However in my magazines this month was a coupon for 50% off a salad.  So on Saturday night we decided to have a quick meal.

Dh ordered the Big Mac combo and I ordered the Caesar Salad, plus a $1 drink.  It still cost nearly $14.  It's quite expensive to eat at McDonald's now.  Mind you the place was packed, though we felt as though we were the oldest people in there.  Dh did not enjoy his meal, even though the fries were straight out of the fryer, and they were still tasteless things.

As I said to dh, we are past the McDonald stage as our kids have grown and we don't have grandkids yet.  Still I have to say I hope I don't become a regular even when we do have grandkids.......but I could be wrong there?

Do you like McDonald's?  By the way when I was writing this I had to look it up to see if it was McDonald's or MacDonald's as I had no idea!!!

Had a very lack lustre Saturday, just wasn't feeling great, my stomach is playing up, plus my allergies are really bad AGAIN.........dh made up for it by working up a storm in the basement and got more drywall installed.  We are getting the tiles on the floor installed next week, so need to finish up some stuff in there before then.

Have a super Sunday, off to church today haven't been in a while.........

Sunday am: Just spent a couple of hours catching up on everyone's blogs.  The only people I couldn't leave comments on were John D at Tok Tok Place and Flower Power because of the Blogger thing and there not being an anonymous option.  If I have missed leaving a comment on your blog, please let me know........

Fundraising for the church again........

However this one is a little different as its the diocese we are raising money for this time.    The church I go to belongs to the Diocese of Toronto and covers a huge area encompassing 26,000 square kilometres.  The diocese want to raise $50 million over a period of 5 years for various projects.  Each parish church is asked to try and raise a certain amount depending on how big their congregation is.  The church I belong to has been asked to raise $65,000, the other church in our parish is being asked to raise $25,000.  As you may have guessed we have a very small congregation.

The thing that is different about this though, is we are only asking each parishioner to donate and are not asking anyone outside of the church to donate.  Now when I first heard about this I thought it was a stupid idea and why should we give the diocese more money, but if we raise our $65,000 we get 40% of those funds back to do things in our parish.  If we raise over $65,000 we get 75% of those funds back.

Where do I fit into this, well I refused point blank to go visiting the parishioner's to ask for money, so I am co-ordinating the volunteers who will visit the parishioner's.  Despite being brought up not being encouraged to give to the church we will personally be making a monthly donation for the next five years as what they want to do with the money if we raise our goal is very worthy, including many renovations to both churches that are well overdue and also giving some of the money to some local causes.

This fund raising is completely separate to any other fundraising we do for the churches and is completely voluntary, and is above and beyond what we would normally give to the church.  We technically start fundraising as of yesterday, but already we have reached 38% of our goal for the church I attend, St. Luke's and I think around 10% for the other church St. David's.  The campaign is technically only being held for 5 weeks, but will probably go until the end of August.

What are your thoughts on fundraising for the church?  As I said before giving to the church is something that doesn't come easy for us, as we weren't brought up to give to the church.

I laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants.......

This is so funny........please excuse the language in it though......thanks to Linda for posting it on Facebook

I went to church on Sunday, but between me and you I think God was a bit ticked off with me for not going to church in the last six weeks, as the big claps of thunder over the church while the service was going on was enough to rattle the whole church!!!  So I reckon I had better start going more regularly!!

While out and about over the past few days I have seen a number of turkeys out and about.  All females though no male turkeys.  Did you know the male turkey is called a Tom or gobbler or a cock or a stag (in the UK).  The female turkey is called a hen.  Young turkeys are called poults.  Just thought I'd throw that into the mix.......

I have also seen a few llamas.  I didn't realize how popular llamas are, here is a link about them.  They are cute looking creatures, maybe that's what I should raise on our field?  Went to let Molly outside on Saturday night but we both stopped in our tracks when I opened the patio doors, as it sounded like all hell was breaking loose.  The farm dogs were barking like crazy; the coyotes were howling like crazy and the dogs on the next line were all barking.  The farm has cows so I am hoping that the coyotes didn't take one of the calves?  Told Molly to get a move on, as I wasn't too crazy about hanging about outside.  Never a dull moment around here!!!

Something to make you smile today....

What a cutie he is and that laugh is infectious.

It rained most of the day on Saturday which did help melt some snow, but didn't do much for the ice {SIGH}  I walked down the driveway to pick up the newspaper with Molly and nearly fell on my backside a few times.  The only reason I took Molly with  me as she wouldn't go out in the rain by herself......remember she is allergic to getting wet........or so she tells me!!!

I did some grocery shopping at the dreaded Wal-Mart as dh needed a new bedside clock as his stopped working.  I can never seem to get the great deals that everyone else gets in that store.  Even dh was shocked at how much it all was.  The clock with taxes was probably $20 and I used $3.50 in coupons and all the groceries fit into 4 shopping bags and it cost $91.  I checked my receipt and everything was correct........one thing for sure it's good that I take dh grocery shopping every now and then as then he sees how much everything costs.  I then called in at Sobeys as they had the "good" milk on for $4.44 a 4 litre bag so got a couple bags of that and some other things and that came to $21.  I have no idea how a family manages to afford all the things they need nowadays?

If you have a minute read this news story, shows the devotion of a parent and a child.

Must go to church today as I haven't been in three weeks..........enjoy your Sunday

Book Review "A Perfect Day," and Church

,Larkspur Cove by Lisa Wingate

"Moses Lake was a constant place, on the surface. But you can't always tell by looking, what might be brewing underneath...
After surviving the worst year of her life, Andrea Henderson moves home to sleepy little Moses Lake, Texas, to recover her shattered faith and build a new life for herself and her son.

Game Warden Mart McClendon finds himself in Moses Lake for a different reason: to forget a tragedy for which he can't forgive himself.

But when a mysterious little girl is suddenly seen with the town recluse, these two unlikely allies are drawn together in a search for her identity. As wounded pasts collide, will their quest bring the redemption and hope they need--or consequences neither of them expected?"
This is another author I hadn't heard of before.  So it was interesting to read this book.  It was an okay book in the sense I wanted to finish reading it to see where the story ended up at.  However I must say I was disappointed in the ending as it seemed to end abruptly with a lot of things unsaid.  Another thing I wasn't keen of was that there were two main characters a man and a woman.  In one chapter it was from the woman's point of view, in the next the man's, in the next the woman's and so on.  I personally found that a little confusing, mainly because you start to bond with a character, then it switches over to the other one.
Part of the storyline was pretty easy to figure out you knew exactly what was going to happen, the other kept you guessing, which I liked.
Stars out of 5: I would give it a very solid 3, although I think it probably deserves a bit more.  I just had a couple of issues with the book as I mentioned above.  However I would recommend that you either buy the book or borrow it from the library as I would love to hear your take on it.
"Book has been provided courtesy of Baker Publishing Group and Graf-Martin Communications, Inc.  Available at your favourite bookseller from Bethany House, a division of Baker Publishing Group".

Now for "A Perfect Day."  It is actually a song I heard over at Valerie's.  You should take a look at her post as it's dedicated to her doggie.  This version is slightly different but it's still as good in my opinion.  I had never heard of this song before?

Went to Church on Sunday, figured as I have been having one to many un-Christian thoughts about the snow plow driver and what I would like to do to him and his vehicle, I had better pop in there and confess my sins and at least say a prayer or two about the whole situation!!!  Can't say I feel any better about it.........but at least I tried!

Monday and we are talking about all sorts...

I should mention something from yesterday's post.  Although we put tar paper on the walls in the "new" basement, we don't actually have any damp in there.  Even in the old basement that is dry.  We are lucky as a lot of old basements in older homes can be damp.  We did have a bit of dry rot in the old basement, but that was taken care of in the spring.

Sunday was the start of Advent at church.  I enjoyed the service, though one of the hymns just went, on and on and on!!!!  I am looking forward to the next few services.   Also found out when the Christmas Eve services are.  We have three churches in our parish, so one is at 4pm, the other at 7pm and the one at the church I attend is at 9pm.  Looking forward to attending that also.

On Sunday morning we had a lovely sunrise, and I took some photos.

Accross the road is a cell phone tower, I think it may be a Rogers one.  Anyhow the sun was shining off the tower and it lookes as though it was lit up:
I think I will keep the other two for Skywatch Thursday as they are really nice.

I also put up my Fibre Optic tree.  Have to say I love  the simplicity of that tree.  Pull it out of the box, connect the parts and switch on.......couldn't be easier!!  I am hoping to get our main tree up this week..............now that takes a heck of a lot longer to put up!!

The plant left of the tree is an orchid.  I see I have a couple of buds on there so I am expecting flowers from it in the Spring.  It was flowering when I got it for my birthday this year, see this post.  The santa's each side of the tree are these ones.

As you can also see by the last photo we don't have much in the way of snow and we are forecast for rain on Tuesday, so it will be all gone that day.........

Also on Sunday I was doing a bit of sewing, I should be finished by mid week, so will show you the photos then.  Hoping for a quiet week again this week.

The winner and saving money.......

And the winner is: WENDY

I have emailed her and if I don't hear back from her in the next 48 hours, I will draw another name.

One show I love to watch on TV is "Til Debt Do U$ Part" with Gail Vaz-Oxlade.  I love her no nonsense style and she isn't afraid to call you an idiot when you are being one.  She has a great web site with all sorts of useful resources on it that are free to use; which when you are trying to save money is such a bonus.  Here is a link to it.

We had our first snow on Sunday, not that it lasted for any length of time, but when I was driving home from church it was very difficult to see because of the snow.

I spent Sunday afternoon doing more work on dd birthday card.  It was too cold and snowy to do anything outside.

No sunset on Sunday night, just lots of clouds..........

Sunday at home........

On Sunday I had to sew the blocks for the block of the month club.  This month's block is called Cubed Lattice.  Would you believe both the blocks below are the same pattern, I just set them differently.  One thing that was different with this block was that it used four different materials in the block and up till now I have only been using three materials.  Tuesday's meeting will be the last one for the year.  I am not sure if I'll join the 2010/2011 club.

We had a day at home on Sunday.  As well as sewing, I went to church and for once there were a few more people than normal there, including a couple more children.  Sunday school is in the basement of the church, and I swear this morning those kids had hob nail boots on, as they sounded like a herd of elephants, I thought I was going to have to say to the Vicar to speak louder, and I am one of the few who doesn't wear a hearing aid!!!

Got all the paperwork and information gathered together for the meeting with the financial planner.  That itself was a job and a half, as they need to know so much.  Between me and dh we got it done, and things aren't looking too bad to our unprofessional eyes!  Mind you after the meeting, we could be proved wrong!

It's dh's birthday today, 29 and holding I'm guessing!!!  We are having blood work done first thing, and as dh has to fast for his tests, I decided to take him out for breakfast after he has done his test as a birthday treat, it will be a full English fry up!!  Mind you the closest we get to that over here will be fried eggs, a couple of sausages, hash browns and two rounds of toast.   Also having this kind of breakfast after he has his blood tests is more advisable as it won't make his tests look bad!!

Giving to others and money........

Got a letter in the mail this week from the church.  Why they had to mail it I do not know, as the vicar probably goes past our house a couple days a week..........OR he could have given me it this week when I attend church.  Anyhow there was a newsletter that was pretty long winded and didn't make too much sense to me.  A "fancy" envelope for the Thanksgiving service...........I am guessing they want you to give more during that service???  I give the same small amount every week, it's what I am comfortable giving, and I know it won't be as much as a lot of people, but it's better than nothing.

Also there was mention that they are collecting for the local women's and children's shelter.  So when I went grocery shopping on Friday I picked up a few boxes of pasta and some toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap and toothpaste) to put in the collection box.  I'll pick up some more things next week when I go shopping again.

Is it something you do, give to shelters etc?   I feel I should volunteer my time somewhere as well, but can't figure out where the best place to volunteer would be.  I have been asked to volunteer at the local museum, but as yet haven't commited to anything.

Next week we're going to meet with a financial planner to go over where we are at, and where we are going money wise.  We have always basically done our own financial planning, but decided we should maybe get a professionals point of view.  We're under no obligation to do anything, so thought why not take advantage of the service.

Money with a bit of a whine now..............our bank requires us to keep $3,000 in our chequing account, so that we don't pay service charges of $12.95 per month.  Isn't that a rip off?    If we only kept $2,000 in there we would only get 25 transactions a month free.  If we kept $1,000 in it, we would only get 10 transactions a month free.  I can't make $12.95 per month in interest anywhere else on that $3,000, so we have no choice but to keep that money in that account.  I need to research other banks with the view of moving our accounts to another bank.

What's stopping us moving everything at the moment, is the work involved, changing our direct debits etc.  Still it's annoying how much money these banks are making every year.

Busy day on Saturday as the kids are coming over and we are going to do some jobs around the house.

Jam, Jelly and Church

On Sunday I was determined to make grape jelly and raspberry jam.  I followed the recipe from here for the grape jelly and although I was concerned that the jelly wasn't going to set, it has set.  I had 5 cups of grape juice, and added 4 cups of sugar, as I prefer a sweeter jelly; it made 6, 1/2 pints (250ml), plus the small glass dish.  It tastes fine, and I will try some on toast for my breakfast.

I made two batches of raspberry jam; so got 7 pint (500ml) jars and 3, 1/2 pint (250ml) jars from them.  I was surprised it made that much, but also glad, as I have had hardly any raspberries this year growing on my bushes.

On Sunday for supper we had "roast" chicken, mashed potatoes, and fried zucchini and onions.  All the veggies were from our garden.  I "roasted" the chicken in the crockpot.  I love cooking a whole chicken in the crockpot, as it makes for a very moist chicken.  I place the whole chicken in the crockpot, add whatever seasoning you want, and cook it on low for at least 8 to 10 hours.  You don't need to add water as there is plenty in the chicken.  It just falls of the bone as its that tender.

I was greeter at church on Sunday.  As our Vicar is on vacation for the month of August, we had a replacement vicar do the service.  It was quite funny as I have a feeling this guy was retired, so relished the opportunity of giving a long winded sermon from the pulpit!!!  Which is all well and good normally, but we don't have air conditioning in the church and as it was close to 40 oC with the humidity, I wasn't the only one who was wilting in the heat.  Then, he totally confused the heck out of us with the order of service; I was totally lost at one point.  So I have decided to skip services for the rest of this month, until it cools down a bit.  It's no fun sitting in a church in that heat, with no fans or a/c.

Attention all cat lovers, have a question for you

Dd has a two year old cat, Olive.

On Saturday they got a four month old kitten called Rhubarb, cute isn't she?
She was told not to introduce the two cats to one another straight away.  So she has Rhubarb in the bathroom, with her toys, litter, food and bed.  Olive meanwhile has the run of the condo like normal other than going into the bathroom.  Dd gave Olive, Rhubarb's blanket to sniff, to get used to Rhubarb's scent.

She was also told to introduce Rhubarb to Olive slowly around 4 days by opening the bathroom door slightly, so they can see one another, but Olive can't get into the bathroom, and Rhubarb can't get out.   Is there anything else she should be doing?

I did my first reading at church on Sunday I read this passage from Amos 7:7-17  I hope I haven't to do it again for quite some time!!!  I have orders for 114 recpe books and there is still a couple of weeks to go.  I picked up the illustrations for inside of the book on Sunday and am pleased with how they look.  Just have to get them scanned and then can give them back to the artist.    I am on schedule to get the book emailed to the publisher by the last week of July..YEAH!!!

Have a super week, it's going to be a hot one for us again, fingers crossed the central air guys come by and finish the installation.  Otherwise I am going to be in for another miserable week.

Worm Charming and Molly.........

When I was at the grocery store on Saturday, there was a big sign in the parking lot announcing the Worm Charming Festival????  My first thought was what on earth is worm charming?

Here are the rules:

Each competitor to operate in a 3 x 3 meter (10' x 10') plot.

Lots to be drawn to allocate plots.
Duration of competition to be 30 minutes, starting at about 11:30 am.

Worms may not be dug from the ground. The sod may be punctured but not broken or lifted. Vibrations only to be used.

No chemicals, drugs or electricity to be used! Water is considered to be a drug/stimulant.

Any form of music may be used to charm the worms out of the earth.
A garden fork of normal type may be stuck into the ground and vibrated by any manual means to encourage worms to the surface.

Garden forks to be suitably covered to prevent possible injury when being transported to and from the competition. No accidents please!
Each competitor to place his/her fork and other equipment in allocated plot on arrival.

A piece of wood, smooth or notched may be used to strike or 'fiddle' the handle of the garden fork to assist vibration.

Competitors who do not wish to handle worms may appoint a seconds to do so. The second shall be known as a 'Gillie'. Maximum is two Gillies per plot.

Each competitor may collect worms from his/her own plot only.

Worms to be handled carefully and collected in damp peat and placed in a suitable, numbered container provided by the organizing committee. Broken or damaged worms will not be counted,

A hand bell to be rung five minutes before the start of the competition will signal competitors to enter their plot. The bell will also signal the start and finish.

Competitors to keep clear of competition plots until given the instruction "Get to your Plots".

The competitor who 'charms' the most worms will be declared Canadian Worm Charming Champion and will hold that Trophy for one year. The competitor who 'charms' the heaviest worm will receive the Great Worm trophy and hold it for one year. The most unique costume or method earns the "Most Curious Wormer" trophy.ost unique costume or method "Most Curious Wormer"
Winners will also receive a permanent trophy as a reminder of their accomplishment,

Judges will also award a trophy for the most unusual method and or costuming,

In the event of a tie, the winner to be decided by a further five minutes charming.

Charmed worms to be released after the birds have gone to roost on the evening of the event.

Now doesn't this all sound fascinating?  I wasn't at all aware of this, otherwise I may have entered, I guess there is always next year?  Meanwhile I will have to practice "charming the worms" out of the ground, when I have nothing else to do.  By the way if you Google "Worm Charming," you will come up with all sorts of sites.  I got my information from the Canadian site here.

I haven't mentioned Molly in a while.  She's fine but I think we are in the peak of allergy season at the moment, as she is chewing and scratching quite badly.  I am considering increasing her steroids to a full pill per day, I'll see.  Oh and she is a dog after my own heart, she hates the wet weather.  I opened the door to let her out this morning and she took one look at the rain and wouldn't move.  So to get her out for a pee, I had to put her on her leash and take her out myself.  Which is just fine and dandy, but that means both of us are getting wet then!!

The new header photo is of one of my scented Geraniums, but I don't know the name, I need to look it up.  Must say it's very pretty though.

Off to early services at church today so I had better scoot.

What I was up to on Sunday.

Woke up to snow on the ground.  Nothing exciting, but enough to say it had snowed.  Had the fire on again, as it was so cold.  Went to church and had a get together with a couple of the women who have been giving me grief with this recipe book; but have it all sorted out, and they seem reasonably happy!!

Dh worked until 12 noon, so was home by 1pm.  We went to Tim Hortons for a late lunch; we both had the soup deal, and it was good.

Then dh decided to take me for a drive to Bradford Greenhouses. You could spend a small fortune in that place and there have more than one area with just spectacular things in there.

We picked up a couple of things.  I got this pear tree it's a Red Bartlett to add to my other pear tree, which is a triple pear tree.
I also picked up a white lilac called Primrose.  However when reading up on this lilac, the older the plant gets the more yellow the flowers so that is something to look forward to.  I would like to plant a pink lilac as well.

I have been wanting a clock for outside, as I never know what time it is.  So we picked up this double sided clock and I will get dh to put it up by the garage.  It will save me trailing into the house with my dirty shoes on.

Dh also came home with this basket of plants for me for Mother's Day which was really sweet of him.
Now all we need is for the weather to warm up, but I don't see that happening much before the weekend.  So I will get some jobs done around the house this week.  At least if it's cold the grass shouldn't grow as fast right?

A good Monday morning to you......

Sunday was a quiet day for us finally.  I was official greeter at church again, and helped out a bit at the coffee and cake meeting after the service.  I made Sour Cream Rhubarb Squares I forgot to take photos though, but it's a good recipe, and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

The kids took dh out for lunch while I was at church, and then me and dd went into town to look at a couple of stores.  So no gardening got done on Sunday.  I did get some recipes input into the system for the recipe book, so that's good.  At the time of writing I have input 75 recipes, so not even half way yet.

We have started another fundraising project called Shop and Support through church.  We order gift cards for places we use and a percentage from each gift card is given back to the church.  I was able to order gift cards for the home reno's we have just had done, which will earn the church a couple hundred dollars.  Although this particular site is for Canadians I am sure there are other sites like this for other parts of the world.

It was as humid as heck on Sunday, giving us a taste of what to expect in July and August.  It was also blowing a gale force.  I took the photos below of one of the leaves on the tree.  It has the most lovely "tassels" on it at the moment.  If anyone can identify the species of tree I would appreciate that.

Those builders!!!

Have to say they are great guys, but I think they made more mess this time than when they did the attic, which surprised me as I always thought drywall dust was the worst.  However concrete dust seems to travel further.  They were working primarily in the old basement, and to get there they travelled back and forward through the kitchen.  All the concrete, the blocks and everything was to carry through the kitchen.

So everything was covered in a layer of dust and the floor was just plain filthy.  Dh spent part of Saturday reconnecting the outside water supply, as that was to cut when they blocked up the window under the deck.  They ruined 7 deck boards so we had to buy them, dh will get them replaced through the week.

They finished off the attic as well by putting MDF board on the corners.  I am reserving judgement as to what that will look like until I have painted them. They told me, I wouldn't notice them once I had painted them..........I am not 100% convinced about the whole situation!

Saturday was a busy day for me around the garden.  I picked up another hydrangea on sale on Friday.  This one is called PeeGee and has a white flower.  I also got the 12 small spruce trees planted.  Here is a photo of them, I planted them along the property line just to be on the safe side:

However as dh mentioned, we'll be dead and buried before they reach any great height.  Still every little helps as far as the environment is concerned.

I also spent the rest of the day in between the showers cutting the grass, and I see that bloody field could do with cutting again...........I mean I only just finished cutting it........I tell you it's a never ending job.  However it looks so good when I have just cut it.

I have a hundred and one jobs that need to be done in the garden, but have to say I am pleased to hear that the forecast on Sunday is rain all day....YEAH!!!  I get a break from the garden.

Here is a photo of the house taken May 1st.  Notice on the bottom of the photo to the left is the yellow magnolia I just planted.  I have to edge all the gardens yet, as they are so overgrown.  It's on my never ending list of things to do!!

I am the official greeter again at church, plus I am helping with the coffee morning after the service.  I picked some rhubarb, so will make something with rhubarb for everyone.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Just when you think things can't get any busier/chaotic......

Something else happens.

We are having some work done down the old basement, and some new windows put in both basements.  As far as we were aware the guys were booked in to start the job on May 18th; which by the way took me two weeks just to get a date out of them.

So on Monday the secretary called just before lunch time and asked if they could start on possibly Wednesday afternoon, definitely Thursday at the latest.  So I said no problem, but they were going to have to take up the deck, as dh wouldn't have time to do that......

Around 2:30pm on Monday she calls again and asks if they could move it forward as the Tuesday and Wednesday job they had planned had fallen through.  So I said fine, meanwhile me and dh had to clear out the old basement so they had room to work.  This was a job I hadn't planned on doing until Tuesday morning.  Infact this wasn't a job I had planned on doing until May!

I spent the morning cleaning the house, or attempting to.  Did a couple loads of laundry, that needed ironing when it had dried.  I planted some onions and lettuce in my cold frame.  Planted the two shrubs I had bought on the weekend.   Saw the first snake of the season, quite surprised as I didn't think it was warm enough for them.

I had bought some pork chops on clearance on Saturday, so had to cook them.  Made enough for a meal for Monday night and a meal for the freezer.  I had pulled out some ground beef/mince out of the freezer, and hadn't got around to using it.  So made a couple of shepherd's pies for the freezer.  Plus as we have workmen in all week, that will be handy as a quick meal for us.  Then while the oven was on for the chops, I made an apple crisp with some apples that needed to be used up.

After supper I tackled the grass again and got the field finally finished.  Also took a stick and got rid of the caterpillar nests in some of the trees.  Figured if I keep on top of them, I will hopefully stop them eating the trees this year.

Being the church greeter on Sunday was good.  I made sure I was pleasant to everyone, and reminded a few people I needed the recipes, and everyone was very friendly.  This coming week when I am the greeter again, I will also be helping out setting up for the after service coffee and cake meeting, that they have once a month.  So that should be good.

Here is my column for the Eden Valley Messenger. I think I will do the same one for the Orangeville Banner, this week as well, as it's relevant for those readers as well.

Peaches........

Over the weekend a dear friend dropped off some Ontario Peaches for me.  She got them from the Niagara region.  She goes down there from Bra...
