Why?

If you look on the middle left hand side of this photo you will see a house and a garage door partially open?  Can you see it?  To the left of the arch, just below our blinds?

I am confused a couple of our neighbours constantly leave their garage doors open a couple of feet during the day; why?  Is it too air them out?  Is there a benefit to doing this?  Granted they only do it when its not raining or snowing; but I am still confused as to why.  If you have a garage do you do this?  Should I be doing this?  Lots of questions.........

I didn't want to post a closer photo as they do have a car parked on the left hand side of the garage, it is a double garage.

I answered in the comments, but am putting it here.  no animals, that particular neighbour is not an animal lover, and no laundry, no one does that.

Do they have an animal either kept in there or needing shelter?

Perhaps they have washing hanging in there??
I remember you saying once that you were not allowed to hang out washing.

Just a thought

my first thought was that they have a pet that goes in and out through the garage to get access to the house...perhaps a "doggie door" on the inside door?

They probably have indoor/outdoor cats.

I would worry about mice. Cheryl

They maybe are smokers and use the garage as a smoking area.

no smokers

Hmmm, I can see no reason to leave the door open that much. To me it would be asking for trouble, strange animals entering, strange people entering, you get my drift.

God bless.

that is strange. I'd worry about thieves!

Ours is open now because it is really damp in there. Once things dry up we will shut it again.

We have neighbors who do the same thing and it's so their cats can go in and out. However, I read in the comments that they have no pets and that they don't smoke either so I'm baffled. I always think it doesn't look very neat and tidy especially in neighborhoods that are so picky about everything else!
Blessings,

I would worry about mice, chipmunks and other rodents entering. Mice love nesting under the hood of a warm car, doing all kinds of damage. I know because we found nesting straw. You should ask them on a casual chat one day.... Bess

I guess it's about airing the garage out. But if it's a constant thing, that's odd.

I'm stymied - do they paint or do otherwise smelly type crafts, hobbies? For example, if I spray painted something I'd crack the garage door but all of the time? Hmmmm...

Several of us in my townhouse complex do the garage door thing because if you have a screen door on the interior door of the garage, it provides a lovely crossdraught in the house. Just open the patio door, open the interior door to the garage, close the screen door, raise your garage door a foot or two and your whole house is aired out and smelling fresh.
