Buddy Friday - My new best friend and fruits of my labours.....

Here is a photo of my new best friend::

As you can see she is a bit battered and worn around the edges, but I couldn't live without her at the moment. We have had her for a long while now, and I have to admit prior to us coming to live here I hardly had anything to do with her. Now she is by my side on a daily basis!!

I picked some more rhubarb today as it is growing like crazy.

I decided to make a couple of Rhubarb loaves, using this recipe.

I had four cups of chopped rhubarb left over, so have put them in freezer bags and will enjoy them at a later date when rhubarb season is over. I remember my Nana giving me chopped up rhubarb and us dipping it in sugar when we were little. Haven't done that in a long time, should give it a try again.

I haven't had rhubarb for probably 30 years. We had rhubarb plants growing along the garage of the first house I lived in, and I too remember being given a little sugar into which I could dip the rhubarb stalks.

Is it too late to put rhubarb in?

The loaves look mighty good!

Those rhubarb loaves look so yummie. We love our wheelbarrel. One of the most useful tools on the homestead.

Eating rhubarb will certainly clean out a person if you're having any problem. But then we use to like to dip ours in salt and suck on the end of it when we were kids. Probably during the war, salt was easier to find then sugar which I'm sure was rationed. I had forgotten all about that till now. Have you ever cooked the rhubarb into like a sauce and put it over vanilla ice cream, that's also good.

I love Rhubarb and Strawberry pie! I am going to copy this bread recipe it looks so good! And sadly, we had to lay our barrow to rest and import a new one...there were simply to many holes to fill in!

Mmmm... I have never cooked with rhubarb. But, this weekend I am making a strawberry-rhubarb crisp recipe that I came across in one of my books.

Glad to know I can freeze the rest.

I love rhubarb but have never cooked it this way. Will be on the menu tomorrow. And I love your wheel barrow. I also have one that has seen better days and every year I think it will die and have to be replaced but she still keeps going on.
