A couple of days late but never mind.......

I normally do a month end summary of my grocery budget. I am a couple of days later, never mind. I came in way under budget in February. I only spent $166.54, and had $62.30 in savings. Why I spent so little is that I am trying to use up what is in the house, and also we have been so busy. I didn't get grocery shopping on February 28th, like I should have, so that helped keep the total down.

We did have a dollar sale in one of the stores, which I took advantage of. Also I am trying to eat more fresh salad things, and that is helping with the costs. However we are in a cold spell again, so will be back to more hot meals this week.

For the month of March my grocery budget will be $325, with $100 in savings. I would love to be able to come in at under budget. However I have to stock up on vitamins etc this month as we are running low. I am taking advantage of a Shopper's Drug Mart referral event, and if any Canadians want a referral please let me know, send me a separate comment with your email address (I won't publish it) and I'll forward you on a referral. If you register, you get a bonus of 5,000 points for spending $20 on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. As you know those points all add up.

I managed to put away $1 per day in my box, as part of the Daily Savings Club, so that is good and means I have managed to save up $59 over these past two months. For those of you who are following the original formula, for the month of March, it's now 75 cents per day.

I managed to put money away in the savings account each week, I put money away in our vacation pot, plus my special savings pot, my Christmas pot and my birthday pot. All are looking pretty healthy for a change!!

So overall February wasn't a bad month. How was it for you?

(I'LL UPDATE YOU ON THE HOUSE ON TUESDAY)

Great post Gill, always interesting to read and to pick up some pointers. Thanks for stopping by. To answer your question about the flowers I posted, they were for no special reason. Sometimes Gregg likes to surprise me.

Hi. I have never commented to a blog before so I hope this works. I have been reading your blog for about a month. I found it through Down to Earth, which I look forward to every day. I was thrilled to learn you live in Canada. I read in today's blog about Shoppers Drug Mart. I was going to go there in the next couple of days to get the tub and tile cleaner you mentioned. I don't know what the referral is about but it sounds good. Let me know what I need to do to apply for the extra points. I love points, I have points for so many places, its a job keeping track of them.
I wish you luck with your latest house offer.
Again I hope this works.
Love your blog thank you for taking time for writting it for all of us who read it to enjoy and help us in our daily lives.

That's a great grocery savings. I'm trying to cut back - I think I spent around $125 for our family of 4 last month - but I still think I can do so much better!

Debbie,

You need to leave me a comment with your email address, and I won't publish it, as that is the only way you can get in touch with me, as I don't want to publish my email for the whole world to read ;0)

Gill I am just pleased February is over. I find it such a depressing month. The garden seems so dead and I just can't wait to get out there working in the soil. It has never affected me before like this year. The 21st March is officially the first day of spring and I can't wait. Margaret

Lucky you for your budget for March. We are 3 adults (myself from Wales with an Italian husband and our son) in our household in Brussels, Belgium and our expenditure on food will be a minimum of 700 euros for 1 month. I must say I do enjoy your blog.
