Happy Thanksgiving and the weather.....

Well it's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, and I must say I have a lot of things to be thankful for.

I have a loving family, who in the scheme of things are pretty healthy.

We have a lovely home and enough food on our table.

I have a very supportive husband who provides for me and lets me stay at home to look after the house.

I have friends who care about me and I care about them.

All in all I have a lot to be thankful for. So a Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians out there.

This poem was on The Simple Things blog and I thought it was very appropriate:

Thank God for dirty dishes
They have a tale to tell
While other folks go hungry
We are eating very well
With home, health & happiness
We shouldn’t want to fuss
For by this stack of evidence
God’s very good to us.

Now to the weather. We are having some gorgeous Fall weather here. As yet we haven't turned on our heating. Now that's not to say we haven't had some cool nights and mornings. We had frost earlier on in the week, but once the sun comes out it warms the house up nicely.

However I know this weather will not last, and I know one day it will be lovely, then the next the temperature will drop like a stone and that will be it until next May. I must admit one thing I miss about Britain is the seasons. They have more definitive seasons over there. Here its either hot or freezing cold. Spring is over in a flash. Fall is a lot better, at least we have a couple of months of fall here, its my favourite time of year in Canada.

I love the crisp mornings, there's a freshness in the air. I love the changing leaves on the trees, the colours are stunning. Fall also means apple pies, pumpkins and bowls of soup. I took a couple of photos of some trees a short walk away from where we live. I hope you enjoy the colours like I do. As before you know it those trees will have dropped their leaves and will be covered in snow. That reminds me, we must look for a snow blower, we're getting too old to shovel snow!!

This tree is more vibrant in person.

Here is another tree just around the corner from that other one.

Well, Happy Thanksgiving, Gill! And I agree--you have a lot to be thankful for, as do I.

Love the tree photos, too.
Why is it the colors never seem so bright in the camera as they are in person?

I, too, miss the British seasons. In England Spring could last weeks. Here, we no sooner take off our long-johns (figuratively speaking) but the long hot months begin.

Good Morning Gill, A time to reflect on what is good in life. I wish you a wonderful weekend with your family. The photos you took are beautiful. This is one of my favorite times of the year too. Great post as always. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Gill, thanks for dropping by. I am so with you on missing British seasons. Here it is either too hot and humid or else we're in the middle of a typhoon. I am missing Autumn at "home" and enjoyed your photos.

You are a very lucky woman Gill. I so wish I could stay home with the kids. I work 26 hours a week, and have a job at home doing medical transcription. It's killing me not being able to stay home. Maybe some day.

Hi Gill, happy Thanksgiving...I did a thanks post too. It is just that time of the year when you think hard about all the blessings. Hugs. As usual I am doing my blog catching up this weekend (weekends are like the only time of the week I can read blogs) and I am thankful I have luxuries like internet, blog friends and time to just lose myself in other people's lives for a little bit.

Happy thanksgiving Gill! i miss the change of seasons too. I grew up in Nova Scotia where the weather is very similiar to Britain and we really don't have the intense winters, maybe you should consider moving there some day! I want to when I retire. Thanks for the reminder of blessings. evelyn

Happy Thanksgiving, Gill. I love the fall too. I don't even mind the winters so much. It's the hot, humid summers I hate.

Happy thanksgiving to you too! I didn't know Canada had a Thanksgiving! You beat us on that one! Lovley photos. I love the seasons too. They are even more different down here in AZ but we do get them-5 actually! We are having autumn cold down here too and if I go to the mountains I can see fall foliage. I hope you get that snow blower. We don't need one down here. Thanks for stopping by my blog to say Hi!

I love your dishes poem. I grew up with it in my mom's kitchen window sill and read it so many times while doing dishes that I had it memorized. When I had a house of my own, I typed it up, framed it, and it has been hanging on the cupboard by the sink for 23 years now. I think my kids might have it memorized too.
