Can't get this song out of my head for some reason..........

It was written in 1949 by Kirsty MacColl's dad, Ewan MacColl.  Kirsty MacColl sang with the Pogues, The Fairytale of New York.  The Pogues released a very popular version of Dirty Old Town as well.

Song for Sunday

I am going to post a song/video on a Sunday.  It's one that I haven't heard in a while, or one I have never heard of at all.  Or even a new to me song.  I hope you enjoy.

Can you believe this song was released in 1975?  Crazy eh?  I can't believe this song is 49 years old?  I remember it coming out.  I must say Rod has a terrible haircut......just saying!!

Safe

Here we go another Netflix progamme based on a Harlan Coben book.  Once again was clueless until the last episode then everything meshed together.  Also once again there was a twist that no one saw coming until the last moment.  And once again well worth watching as it keeps your brain working trying to figure out who has done what!!!

I can't post the actual video here for some reason, but I did find the theme song to this series quite catchy.  Here is a link to Glitter and Gold.  I have never heard of this artist, Barns Courtney, have you?

Fun one that you can join in with...

Saw this on Facebook.   What was the Number 1 song in your country on your 23rd birthday?

This was mine; it was number 1 for two weeks.

What is yours?

10-3-30 Challenge Day 2

So here we go day 2.  Still had a spring in my step when I got up just after 6am.  More organized this morning.  Took my phone down stairs.  Took my water, had a towel all at the ready and off we went.  My goal this morning was to start off at incline 10 and do that for 12 minutes, then drop it down to incline 5 for the remaining 18 minutes.  I did it 🙌  Still thought I was going to die, but I did it.

This time I shouted at Google Home to put on Fat's Domino as I figured the beat of 50's music would work and it did.  One song that has a great walking beat is Roy Orbison's song "Pretty Woman."  Another song with a good walking beat is Madonna's song "Hung Up."  I don't really like Madonna as a person but some of her music has a good beat.

So all in all my number's for this morning's are as follow:

Incline 10 for 12 minutes, incline 5 for 18 minutes.

Calories burned: 325

Miles walked: 1.506 @ 3 miles per hour

I do have a muscle that is complaining, it's at the lower end of my calf, above my ankle.  Will have to keep an eye on it.  Otherwise feel good.  It truly has helped that I had 8 weeks of prior walking, as I think there would be more muscles complaining!!

I started a food diary today so we will see how that goes.

I managed two walks today, so all in all I walked nearly 13K in steps, and just over 5 miles and logged in 95 minutes of exercise.

My new best friend...........

and I love her too bits:

I am talking about my google home!  I love to listen to music while I am sewing.  I have a free spotify account so I can access a lot of music.  I guess if I paid for an upgraded spotify account I could listen to more, but so far this works well.

One thing though, I have bluetooth in my car, and am forever pressing the button in the car and saying:

"ok Google call so, and so!"

Which obviously my bluetooth doesn't understand at all.

I am sure my google home can do more, so if anyone has one, what do you use yours for?

"In constant sorrow.......

all through his days."

I spent Thursday in my sewing room and while in there I put on the cd, "O' Brother Where Art Thou."  Do you remember the movie?  It came out in 2000.  I always loved that movie.

The main song on the movie is "In Constant Sorrow."  The movie version was always a favourite of mine until I heard Sawyer Fredericks version.  No one can top that version.

I took out Cher's Greatest Hits cd from the cupboard, so will listen to that one next when I sew.

Catchy tune from ad.......

This is also a catchy tune.

I actually like the look of the Kia Soul car.  Does anyone own one who is reading this post?  Or knows someone that does?  Any thoughts on this car?

Oh and a Happy Valentine's Day to you all.

The good thing about decorating....

well other than finally there is some actual white in this house along with some colour.........I mean builder's beige does get old fast believe me; is that when I decorate I have Stingray Music on the TV and listen to the oldies station.  It's good to catch up with all the great tunes and hear ones you haven't heard in a while like this one:

Dinner on Friday night was good.  I didn't take any photos, but I will describe what we had.  We started with a platter of assorted starters, basically samples of various things, which included pickerel in a tempura batter, antipasto, chicken and pork kebab, and a giant shrimp with seafood sauce.  That was okay, not the best but not the worst.

For our main, I had sesame seed crusted salmon, with jasmine rice, various steamed veggies and a "salad" of mini sprouts.  It was all perfect, right down to the steamed veggies, 10 out of 10.  Dh had bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies.  Again dh said it was really good.  For dessert, dh had Lindt Chocolate cheesecake and I had the Bailey's Irish Cream creme brulee, that was 100 out of 10, I could have just eaten that all night.  Gosh it was good.  Dh had a couple glasses of wine, while I had water with my meal.........I am a cheap date!!1

A bit of a sad note.  There was a funeral party there and the deceased was a young man in his 30's.  They were all on the patio drinking and then came into the restaurant to have their meal just as we were going.  Always sad when it's a younger person who has died.

This is the third year in a row we have been to the same restaurant for our wedding anniversary, we both decided next year we need to try something different!!

Do you dine out in a fancy restaurant's for special occasions?

Remembering........

When I was visiting blogs, Randomosity had a youtube video of The Proclaimers.  Do you remember The Proclaimers?  I think their most famous song is this one:

I love their music and I think I know all the words to 500 miles.  The Proclaimers are Scottish and I am English; our accents are completely different despite what a lot of people think.  However when I sing along to this song I develop a pretty good Scottish accent I think, which I think is very funny.

As for remembering, back in 1988 The Proclaimers were performing a gig at a place reasonably close to where we lived in England, called Kendal.  However we had booked to come over to Canada for a week for dh to find a job and to double check we wanted to come and live over here.  Although bummed because I couldn't go and see The Proclaimers, no regrets at making that trip to Canada, as it was the first step in coming over here to live.

Then this will make more sense to the Canadians out there.  The government has finally caught up with me!!  I still have the red and white health card. Got a letter in the mail a couple of weeks ago to go and get one of the new ones.  As it has your photo on, it has taken this long for me to feel and look human again.  So off I went on Tuesday to get it done; so I am guessing every five years I have to get it redone?  I liked the red and white ones as they had no expiry dates on them.

Was in and out the office in under five minutes and at least half of the time was spent talking about our Ford Fiesta's both the lady in the office and I own!!  Got to love small town living.

I went to knitting also on Tuesday and left early as I was so tired.  So due to that fact I did not get an opportunity to catch up on everyone's blogs sorry.

For Shelley here is a link to the fish cake recipe.

David Garrett, have you heard of him?

He's a new to me musician and I love his work. He was on PBS on Thursday night. Now on the look out for his albums.  His version of Coldplay's Viva La Vida is just great.

I have limited internet access for a few days just to warn you.......

Photos and music for a Friday.....

Here is a lovely photo of our Little Princess:

Was busy sewing on Friday and I enjoy listening to music as I sew.  I listened to the Pulp Fiction soundtrack:
I enjoy this Neil Diamond song, "Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon" from the soundtrack, although it was sung by Urge Overkill for the soundtrack, not Neil Diamond:

Another song I really enjoy from the soundtrack is"Teenage Wedding," by Chuck Berry.  This You tube video has John Travolta dancing in it!!

The second soundtrack I was listening to was "O Brother, Where Art Thou," so very different to Pulp Fiction.
My favourite song is "I am a Man of Constant Sorrow," by The Soggy Bottom Boys:

Followed very closely by "Down by the River to Pray," by Alison Krauss, who has the most fantastic voice:

It made for a pleasant day listening to those soundtracks while I was sewing:

Continuation of yesterday's post..........

So I reminded myself what the Brooks and Dunn song, Boot Scootin Boogie," was all about.

Now I am wondering if we are supposed to learn how to line dance to it?  Saw this video on Youtube, guess I could practice??? However discovered there must be half a dozen different dances to this song?

This one seems sort of easy, I guess?

I will say that song does remind me of "The Wanderer," by Dion

You can even line dance to it:

Does anyone do line dancing?  It looks like fun don't you think, unless you have two left feet?

Now even if you don't watch any of the other videos please watch this, they are from Malaysia of all places:

The music is sung by a great band called the Hermes House Band.  A very upbeat and fun group from the Netherlands.

All about music today..

I was talking to dd on Monday and she was going to see the D.J. on Monday evening to finalize all the details for the wedding. We were talking about different types of music that should or shouldn't be played at the wedding.  It helped that dd and future son-in-law were at a wedding this past weekend, so they saw first hand what sort of music worked.

One that didn't were the "mega-mixes," which comprise of lots of different songs from one artist/group put together on one long track.  They are annoying and so long that you get bored with it before it ends.   She said that people seem to enjoy the modern country songs, and of course the usual groups like Abba, Queen etc.

I personally like the older songs from the 50's and 60's as they tend to have catchy tunes that you can dance too.  Do you have any favourite type of music you like to dance too?

While I was cleaning up on Monday I had some music on.  I actually went and bought a cd the other week.   21 by Adele  My favourite song from that cd is this one:

I was also listening to the Proclaimers. They are a Scottish duo and the funny thing is while I am singing along to their songs, I can sing with a Scottish accent.............in real life I DO NOT sound at all Scottish, I have a true English accent, despite what certain people say, and they know who they are!!

Have to say I also like Benny and Joon which was featured in video above, Johnny Depp is very easy on the eyes!!

Earthquake, a trip to the dentist AGAIN! and other stuff

Now to be fair I didn't feel the earth move, but dh did.  Actually he saw the kitchen cupboards move, while he was bleeding like a butched pig in the kitchen sink.  He tried to chop the top off his finger while cutting drywall!!

Now dd who works in Toronto was on a meeting on the 17th floor of her building and the building swayed, and they evacuated the building.  They actually thought they were under attack as she works for the Provincial Goverment.  They of course learned later it was THE earthquake!!

Now for all of you on the West Coast earthquakes are a common occurance, for us its not.  By the way it was a 5.5 earthquake, what ever that means.

Meanwhile I felt nothing, as I was driving home from the dentist.  I decided I wasn't going to suffer no more with this tooth, so trotted down to the dentist, who again took another x-ray and again found nothing.  He thinks my nerve (s) are dying in my tooth?  He's put me on antibiotics again and I go back on July 2nd, and I think it's a case of they either do a root canal (I DON'T THINK SO) or pull the tooth.  The only problem with pulling the tooth is I won't have any back teeth on the bottom right side, which may prove to be a problem.

Mind you doing a root canal, at a cost of a few hundred dollars may not be the answer either, as that might not solve the problem.  I swear I have been more times to the dentist this year than any other time in my life.

When we were out on Tuesday we picked up the new Meatloaf cd "Hang Cool Teddy Bear."  I played it in the car too and from the dentist and it's okay.  I do however like this song, Los Angeloser the best.  I see he's playing in Oshawa on July 6th, but it's a couple of hours drive to there from here, which is a pain.  Plus no doubt it's sold out by now.

Music.........

***I am super busy with a few things at the moment, so forgive me if I don't get to visit your blog. I want to thank you though for taking the time to visit my blog and I am especially grateful if you have commented, I read all the comments.....thank you again***

I love all sorts of Music and if someone had to ask me what sort of music I liked the best, I wouldn't have a clue what to say? I really enjoy going to live concerts and we generally try to go to a couple each year. I have put a You Tube link on each artists name with a song I really like from each artist.

This year its Celine Dion and Tina Turner. Last year we saw Sarah Brightman and The Dixie Chicks. We've seen both those acts twice now. We've also seen Elton John and although we had terrible seats he's one of the best artists out there. We saw Shania Twain a few years ago, again had horrible seats. Then the last two years we have been to Dollywood and seen the Kingdom Heirs in concert, love their music.

The best concert entertainment wise though had to be Cher's Halloween Bash. Now costumes were optional, so of course me and dh didn't dress up. However when we entered the Sky Dome we should have clicked this was going to be no ordinary concert. I have never seen as many good looking sailors in all my life, and there were so many people who looked like Cher it was crazy.........however I don't think one of them was a woman!!!! I wouldn't even let dh use the bathroom, as I didn't know if he would have come out alive!!!!!

There were a number of other groups playing but the one I remember most was The Village People. Everyone was up dancing, even dh was tapping his feet.......... Then when Cher came on stage the energy she had was fantastic. It was a night to remember.

I will say I had a heck of a time picking just one song from each one of these artists......

"Sherry," "Walk Like A Man," "Rag Doll'" are just a couple of their hits...........

for the Four Seasons. We went to to see the musical "Jersey Boys" today in Toronto. The kids bought dh a pair of tickets for his birthday, and what a present. They bought us great tickets in the dress circle in section 21 (bottom left), here is a seating plan There were only eight chairs there, and they weren't fixed to the floor, just like regular comfy chairs. We felt like royalty up there........just remembered I didn't give the royal wave while I was up there.........drat!!!! We had never been to the Toronto Centre For The Arts before and it was a really nice place, and just down the road from dd's, so she drove us there and back from her house.

We went to the show not knowing what to expect, other than the music, and it was really good. Lot of jokes and laughs, lots and lots of great music, and a good storyline, of how they all started out. One thing that struck me was that loyalty to your friends was a number one priority. I will warn you there is a lot of "F" words used and honestly it's not a show for children. So far this is the best musical we have seen, and one I would go and see again.

Here is the official site for Frankie Valli, doesn't he look good for his age, he was born in 1934?

This is my favourite song from them December, 1963 (Oh what a night.) This is dh's Sherry

What is your favourite song from the Four Seasons?

I also wanted to say thank you to you all for making my blog a success, as without you all reading it, it would be me just talking away to myself...LOL Today marks the 20th week of my blog and I have had over 20,000 hits on it. Who knew anyone would actually like to read what I ramble on about.......... So once again a big THANK YOU TO YOU ALL!!

We're all going on a summer holiday........

We're all going on a summer holiday.
No more working for a week or two.
Fun and laughter on a summer holiday.
No more worries for me and you.
For a week or two.

We're going where the sun shines brightly.
We're going where the sea is blue.
We've seen it in the movies.
Now lets see if its true.

Everybody has a summer holiday.
Doing things they always wanted to.
So were going on a summer holiday.
To make our dreams come true.
For me and you.

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/c/cliff+richard/summer+holiday_20032243.html

Those lyrics seemed appropriate as today we leave for our Summer Holidays. I will be posting while we are away, so keep checking in.

Now here is the You Tube video for Cliff Richard singing the song.......it's an oldie but a goody.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdJCtqegd8A

A little bit of family history to go with this. My dad played in a band many moons ago. Cliff Richard was often accompanied with a group called The Shadows, and my dad's band was the opening act for the The Shadows back in the early 60's when they played in Carlisle.

Here is one of their famous songs again thanks to You Tube for this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY-rPDwzM9M&feature=related

Now of course if you're British and were around in the 50's and 60's this is a blast from the past. Not sure if they were big in the States? I was born in the early 60's so not sure about what's what. Dad of course was a big fan of both both Cliff Richard and The Shadows..........

(A big thank you to Denise for supplying the picture........I have the exact same hat!!)

Oops, this wasn't supposed to be posted until next week!!!!!

Our first trip to Tennessee.......

Back in 2006 we decided to go away on vacation. We hadn't been on vacation in a few years, and as we were now on our own and if dh stays around the house people are always calling him from work, so its best if we go away.

As I have always wanted to go to Dollywood, we decided to go to Pigeon Forge for a few days. So we book this cabin

It looks a lovely cabin doesn't it? And it is. There was one teeny little problem that was never mentioned...........its hanging off the side of a mountain......I mean its hanging there. On the deck there was the hot tub, and underneath the deck, there was well......NOTHING...........I suppose that's not true, eventually there was ground.................but even so. Now this is all well and good for someone who isn't afraid of heights, but I am afraid of heights and just looking out of the window made my stomach churn.

But what a view it was, it was stunning. We got there on the Sunday and it took me to around Wednesday to Thursday to be totally comfortable in sitting on the deck. Now to be fair our cabin wasn't as high up as these ones which we could see from our deck, but this is just to show you where they place these cabins.

We were so high up everytime I went up the mountain to the cabin my ears popped, when I went down the mountain my ears popped. Everywhere we went in Tennessee my ears popped, it was so funny..........well it was until my poor ears were hurting so much I had to go to the doctors at home!!

Anyhow, I have to say we fell in love with Tennessee and would move there tomorrow if the kids would move with us. So one thing we did a lot of was eat out, as there were so many restaurants that we enjoyed. My top pick in Pigeon Forge is The Old Mill Restaurant I can't get enough of their corn fritters with maple butter.......my mouth is watering now just thinking about them.

Needless to say we were feeling a bit stuffed by mid-week, so I say to dh we should walk down the mountain and walk back up to get some exercise. Now lets just say I am allergic to exercise and dh knows this and says "I don't think that's a good idea." So I say, "no I'll be fine."

Well walking down the mountain was fine, despite the fact your toes were all squished into the end of the running shoes because of how steep it was. It was going up when I thought I may die.......you needed to be a mountain goat to walk up that mountain.............or at least someone who is reasonably fit. I did eventually make it back up the mountain under my own steam, but lets just say I didn't walk it again!!!

One of the best things about the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area is the Smokey Mountain National Park. One of our biggest surprises was that you didn't have to pay to visit the "attractions." I mean I would have happily paid $10 each to visit Cades Cove, but it was free. I think visiting Cades Cove was the highlight of the vacation, and every time I am in the area I will make a point of visiting it.

One day we decided to take a trip on Newfound Gap Road. The scenery was stunning, but there was one thing we kept on seeing, and it was all these motorcycles? Never thought much about it until we got to Cherokee and the place was over run with motorcycles. So needless to say we turned right round and headed back home........with my ears popping on the way up and down the mountain!!!!!!

So back to the cabin. I am going to assume the reason the Smokey Mountains are named as such is the mist that rises over them, making it look as though there is smoke on them.

So I step onto the deck one morning to take a photo of this, and promptly stood on a huge bug with my bare foot. Now the bug let out a yelp of some sort I screamed blue bloody murder and both our cries echoed through the mountain side, all at just after 6am in the morning...........so if you weren't awake before hand you would be after me and the bug had finished screaming. I have no idea what this bug was, and honestly I didn't hang about to see what's what. So another reason not to go on that deck!!!!

So the reason for visiting Pigeon Forge is to go to Dollywood, not for the rides but the shows. We really enjoyed them, and that is where I was saved...LOL I fell in love with The Kingdom Heirs. I am not a religious person, but the songs they sing just hit the spot. We went again last year and my first port of call was to the Kingdom Heirs show, and if we go this year it's where I will go again. We don't have that type of music up here in Canada.......or at least not that I am aware of. Its so upbeat, as I am Church of England and our hymns tend to be more sedate.

It sounds as though I had a rotten trip, but honestly it was great we both thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so we went again last year and there is a good chance we are going to pop in on our way home this year as well.

The people from Tennessee are so nice and welcoming. Its super clean and we love it.

I will do a post about our trip to Georgia last year, as it has a couple of "it could only happen to us," stories in there..........

UPDATED TO ADD THE POST ON GEORGIA WILL BE PUBLISHED ON THE 9TH (TUESDAY) OF SEPTEMBER
