Dd and hubby came for dinner last night so I made beef stew in the crock pot for dinner along with garlic bread, the Ace Bakery brand which is the best I may add. Have enough leftover for another meal and it was a perfect meal on a cold winters night.
As I mentioned yesterday I was defrosting tomatoes in front of the wood stove as I forgot to get them out of the freezer the night before. When I have a surplus of tomatoes in the summer I just throw them in a bag in the freezer as is and during the winter when I have more time I hunt them out, the skin falls off, I pull out the core with my hands and put them in a pan along with part cooked peppers and onions, add some Italian Seasoning, salt and pepper. Simmer for a couple of hours and then using my stick blender, blend it all until it looks like this:
It freezes great, and I will use some today to make a couple of lasagnas, one for supper and one for the freezer.
I bet you haven't seen a sign like this before:
We were going through an Indian Reservation the other week as a cut through to another place and saw this sign. Luckily for me it was cold, so the snakes are all hibernating!!

Stew looks good; funny my sister made stew this week, and I have had it on my mind to makes some as well. You just validated the thought to do so, Gill. I wish the Summer here would have yielded me more tomatoes, but I did can more then the Season before. Ha,ha,ha...we should have one of those Snake signs on the Bruce, as we have snakes that stretch across the roadway! Too funny. Great Sunday to you !

Yum all that food looks delicious! And you're right, I've never seen a sign like that, although it's not a bad idea to have one, because there is nothing yuckier than a snake, except for one that's become roadkill...

The stew looks great and nourishing. Can't beat a nice stew on a cold day. I am a big fan of tomatoe soup and eat it often. Yours looks yummy and I like the idea of freezing the toms whole and then the skins falling off by themselves? Is that what you meant, or do they need encouragement?
It was easy to pass the stuff to my niece as I am on a total declutttering campaign as we have way too much stuff!

I have never seen a snake sign, one would be prefect for Washington, DC!!! Glad for the tip on tomatoes, I am going to try it out this summer, we were over runn with tomato's last year!!
