for everyone that pops by and visits me at my blog. However don't be shy in leaving a comment, even if all you say is hello.........
To all my new followers, a big thank you as well, I would love to get above 300 followers, that's my next goal.
I have set myself a challenge which will be good for me, and that is not having anything to eat after my supper. I have a habit of snacking while I am watching tv, which is a bad habit. It's been nearly a week now and although I have had the urge to snack I have been good and haven't. It's not a lot but it's a start. I also want to cut out having a snack in the afternoon next when I have a cup of tea. I'll start on that next week, as having a cup of tea generally means having a cookie or a piece of cake.
I am taking baby steps and don't want to tell myself I am going on a diet, as that will totally put me off and I won't do it. It's a mind game thing with me, because as soon as I think of the word diet, it means I can't have anything to eat. So I will try it this way to see how things go.
Cindy posted a good recipe on her blog the other day. She actually posts good recipes on her blog most days. Anyhow, I did "my version" of her recipe by using and Old El Paso Taco kit instead. It was not too bad, I didn't use the full seasoning package that came with the kit as I find it too spicy for me. This is what mine looked like, click on the link above to see what the original looks like.
I know no low calorie, but remember I'm not actually on a diet per se!!!

A word of caution Gill, the not snacking at night is fine, but you really should eat something every 3 hours during the day to keep your metabolism running well - aim for a good snack like a pc of fruit or some veggies or nuts.
Keeping your metabolism revved will help burn calories even while you sleep - it has been proven that many over weight people got that way from not eating enough or skipping meals.
I do not eat 'sweets' with our evening meal. We save it and have it later in the evening as we watch TV. It puts 'food in the tummy' going to bed, making the time between dinner and breakfast lesser.
Hi Gill,
I started a healthy food management plan (diet) this time last year and have lost 10 kg. It took a while for my body to adjust to the different food, but now I have to remember to feed myself. I rarely get hungry any more. Trick is to eat healthy food and no junk! Have smaller portion sizes, I have a serving the size of the middle circle of my plate and no higher than a deck of cards. After eating your supper go clean your teeth and dont eat after that!
I have cut my cups of tea down to three a day, therefore I am not eating as much of the sweet stuff.
Healthy food = healthy life
I am not on a diet, I am eating healthy and that equals weight loss, mix in some exercise and you should do well.
Oh and drink plenty of water, a good appetite suppressant, at least 8 glasses a day...
Good Luck Gill!

Good luck with the cutting down. I found it easier to cut out the in-between snacks than change the main meals.
Looks yummy, definitely a nice winter warmer dish
Hi Gill.
Your new flowers are gorgeous. I love them.
These days I can only eat rice porridge and banana. gentle for the stomach.
Seemed to have worked out "okay" by using the Old El Paso kit, Gill? Yummy. Rob and I really don't care for too hot & spicy anymore, this is why I go for the mild salsa. Everything is good for us in moderation and proportions, is it not?
I'm with you about no snacking. Looking forward to hearing more posts about this.
Sft x
Gill,
Your recipe looks very good and I'm thinking of trying this for Super Bowl night.
I'm just terrible with snaking while watching T.V. I'm trying to cut down but I find it very hard when all the goodies are calling my name from the pantry closet.
Gill, some protein at each meal if you can, and just eat smaller portions, snacks are OK, as Kim said if your body thinks it is being starved it will hold onto fat as a survival mechanism.

the best way to lose weight is regular excersise - which involves getting away from the computer and possibly taking the dog for a nice long walk each day - if not twice a day - there is more excersise to be had outside than inside
remember your five a day and drink plenty of water
nick - your much skinnier little brother haha!
Ohh yum! Look at all that cheesy goodness! Good luck with your non-diet! ;) I don't think snacking per say is bad, just need to make wise choices is all!
Good for you for cutting out the snacking after tea :-)
This was always my downfall, that and taking something to nibble at with my hot chocolate when i went to bed, bad, bad thing! It's is mind over matter and you do get into the habit of not doing it after a while.
I wouldn't cut out you afternoon treat, instead change what you have, instead of a cookie have some fruit or a yoghurt instead.
As you know i've been doing Slimming World and have lost 1 stone 3lb now, i don't look on that as a diet either (it would put me off too) but i've changed the way i cook things and no snacking in between (or after) meals has helped a lot.
Good luck, but don't beat yourself up about it if you slip, just get straight back on it the next day :-)
Good luck with the not snacking Gill. It's hard to lose weight isn't it! The recipe looks wonderful. I love melted cheese.
Good for you on the no snacking after dinner effort! The only snack I have during the day is an apple at 4:00 P.M. on weekdays, aside from that I stick to my meals.
Hello, Gill!I'm following you now :) Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm still a novice in a blogosphere, and I appreciate your support.
I'm trying to be conscious about what I eat too. I don't like the idea of actual dieting because I know I'm not going to stick with it. I've lost 11 pounds in the last 6 months, and my goal is to lose at least 12 pounds this year.
Yes, if you're going to change eating habits, definitely eat small amounts between meals, but make sure it's fruit or veggies & hummous, nuts, that sort of thing. Keep your body happy and energized, but not full, so that you can have your regular meals as well.
That dish looks divine...cheesy! My favourite :)
I have to agree with your first poster. Keep that metabolism going. Change your snack from say a few cookies to a light yogurt, or a piece of fruit with 100 grams of cheese.
Re the dinner -- too funny. I just made a mexican lasagna the other night! Must be in the air, eh? While the Old El Paso soft taco bake is well received, I find it too fatty and lacking in other things. So I made one similar to the one at the link but it contains beans, corn, onions, bell peppers and I use lower-fat cheese whenever I can and ground turkey or chicken in place of ground beef. It was good, but I made too much!
I went through a spell where I had dreadful acid reflux. I eat a pretty bland diet most of the time because of such issues, and my doctor told me not to eat after 7.00 p.m. It became such a habit that I rarely snack in the evenings and when I do I know it. I've read with great interest what people have to say here. There are some very good tips.
Hi Gill,Well done on your commitment.I cant sleep if I dont have a milky drink and a slice of toast before bed :O( I REALLY need to lose some weight beore the summer ,all this crotcheting is a bad think for My weight,(Too much sitting down) I'm the same with the word diet,I go into panic mode!No fat vegetable soup works for me and back to weight watchers too probably, happy week ahead ,lots of love, juliexxx
You're welcome Gill, and thanks for visiting my blog as well! Just checked out google maps as I wasn't sure where Alliston was but I've been that way a few times on Hwy 89. We're almost neighbours!
Hello it's beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Kim is right about snacking. T.O.P.S (taking off pounds sensible) suggested that we may need a snack of what every reason to try to keep it healthy.
At first I want an certain amount of followers but it like the old saying you can't please everyone.
But I do like some stopping in and saying "Hello"
Good for you to end after-supper snacking! And of course it's NOT a "diet." (Diet is four-letter word at my house too.)
Good Luck cutting down. I also have a hard time not having a snack in the evenings
Good on you Gill. I love the ideas that Tania@Outback wrote.
I am so familiar with those mind games -- in fact, it is the subject of the blog I am getting ready to write but I had to stop in -- you and Jane and Joy are by far my favorite blogs to read and I never miss a day!
In my experience, when I used to it little and often, I was slimmer.Kept the Metabolism going.
Fat is stored in the body for a number of reasons. Stress is another cause. Good luck in getting over 300 followers. My goal is to get to 20 for now :)
