Back in this post I mentioned we were filing for a re-assessment of the property taxes, as we thought they were assessed to high. Well on Friday we finally got a letter from the board and they have dropped our assessed value of the house by $80,000. What that translates to is about an $18 a month decrease in our taxes. Now that may not seem like a lot its a heck of a lot better than it was. It also means that by 2012 instead of paying well over $425 a month, we should be only paying around $375. So it was well worth doing. We still have to sign the paperwork and mail it in. Now our township can fight this, but fingers crossed they don't.
Also we got our hydro bill in this week and it was just over $30. We had been over billed on the prior two billings, and this was an actual reading. Anyhow, when I called them to talk to them, the guy suggested I use the call in feature and I can call them with a meter reading every month to get a correct bill each month. He gave me the dates to call for the rest of the year, and I wrote that down on the calendar. Its a digital meter so it is easy to read.
Friday was spent cleaning house and doing some tidying up. I love it when the house looks tidy. I was supposed to do some more work on fireplace, but ended up not feeling good. I ended up having a horrible headache, probably a migraine. No idea what brought that on, but it knocked me for six. We ended up with rain so maybe it was a barometric pressure headache? As I am writing this I'm still not feeling good, so that's why it is such a short post, sorry!

(((gill)))) yes the headache may be pressure related. WTg on the less taxes! wow 30 dollats? mine is ten times that
Glad to hear your reassessment was in your favor. That doesn't always happen. Hope you're feeling better tonight.
Great news you have here...congrats.
Speaking of bills, my son got a letter last month saying the gas meter was not working properly and may have to adjust the amount of the bill. Well, they did by $163 that has to be pain NOW! No evidence of proof of went wrong, it's their word that something did happen. I hear many other gas company customers got a similar letter. I know CA is hurting for $$ but I sure hope the people are not getting ripped off!
As for your headache hope it is better, I got one today cause of the weather...hot, dry and cloudy, weird day.
Blessings
this good news is the start of lots more I am sure. Sorry about the headache
Hope you get well soon!
Just to add, I am also in countryside of India now - it is quite different and somewhat nice to be far away from the crowded cities...
I am enjoying the experience though it might be very different from the Canadian countryside!
More money in your pocket is always good news! Our Hydro bill is terrible but we have electric heat. Even in the summer it never gets that low. I'm suffering with a sinus headache due to a cold so I can sympathize, and I can't even take anything for it.
congrats on the good news. it is always good to have some good stuff the relish in!
Hope you are better!
I think phoning in the Hydro meter reading is a good idea.
We had our tax bill lowered, too. AFter much paperwork and the like. Which was well worth my time! Turns out they lowered it because we do not have full time road access. We pay to have it cleared in winter.
Good work!
Here from Margret's. How does the cost of living compare to England? I am in the U.S., but LOVE England and Canada.
Glad to hear things are getting better for you with those darned taxes!
Good news all round, except for the headache of course. Hope it goes away real soon. Migraine's are horrible.
well done. any time you get bills reduced or lowered is a cause for celebration.
:-)
Poor you! I get barometric headaches all the time. No fun!
