Allergy update.............

So I go to see my doctor on Tuesday. Appointment at 11:10am finally get into his office at 12 noon :0( to find he has a "learner doctor" shadowing him, and I had to talk to her first. So I say I want to see Dr. A. she says fine but wants to know what I want. So I tell her the story, she checks my throat, fine; she then checks my ears, I tell her my right one feels full, she checks it and she says its clear. So I say okay.......

She then goes and gets Dr. A. Dr. A. arrives and he asks me to tell him what's what......didn't I just do that with the "learner???" So I tell the story again, and he looks at my throat, he then looks at my ear, and says oh yes the right one is bulging (???) he then looks up my nose and says the right nostril is blocked and yes I have allergies...............duh, I KNOW THAT!!! Apparently though the "learner," didn't!!! So the nasal blockage, is causing pressure on my ear.

So the gist of the conversation was, I HAVE to use a nasal spray twice a day, daily until allergy season is over (whenever that may be??) I can carry on with the Aerius, and after 10 days I can stop it to see what happens. I can have a referral for allergy tests to see what I am allergic too, but not until November as they will not do it during allergy season??? Meanwhile I am supposed to close all the windows and stay indoors after 5pm.........I just looked at him when he said that........

So I am no better off as I still have no idea to what I am allergic too......

I left the house at 9am and finally got home at 2:15pm, I was shattered. I had to go to Lowes to exchange a light fixture. I called in at HomeSense and picked up a couple of things. I then called in at the grocery store and picked up some things on sale. Had to get gas and then called into the town offices, as in our property tax statement there was a notice saying that if we wanted info on cheap trees and saplings to mail it in. It turns out the town negotiates with nurseries for bulk buy on trees and saplings and gets them at a huge discount. The lady thought you could get 100 saplings for around $10. So depending on the price we may get some trees for the property when they sell them next Spring.

I picked some blackcurrants for my dad tonight and some raspberries for him. However the poor raspberries have had a beating with all the rain we have had and don't look that great. It took me ages just to pick a good container full. Then as I am writing this on Tuesday night, its thundering and lightening again, and the forecast for Wednesday is for rain all day. So I think the end of the raspberry season is more or less here. I do have a couple of blackberry/bramble bushes but they are not ready yet.

They won't do it when allergy season is on as you are already having reactions...so they wont be able to see if you are having a reponse to any of the tests. I hope they dont do a skin prick test as if you have a reaction to one thing, it can make you look like you have reactions to others as your skin becomes hypersensitive after the first...if that makes sense. My son had blood tests for antibodies, but then he can die from his allergies and he has to have antihistamines and sprays daily..summer it is grass, grass pollen, dust mites, and all other pollens, Autumn it is mould spores, fungi spores, leaf litter etc etc. Yes...grass...not just the pollen but the actual grass and then the animal allergies start, and the birds and the list goes on. And on top of that he scored the highest you can for reacting to them all. Constant lol.
We always know when he is awake cus the sneezing starts lol.
Still, at least if you stop reacting when allergy season stops you will know it is probably pollen. If you dont, I wonder if there is anything in the house that is triggering it as it was so dirty when you moved in.
Hope you feel better soon.

Gill, before you plant anymore trees, you might want to wait until you get tested for allergies. One of our older sons is allergic to many types of trees and has a horrible time in B.C. When he is on the prairies where there are few trees (maples & oak mostly where we are) he isn't near as bad.

Just a suggestion.

You poor thing, when the allergies act up, you want instant relief. I'm surprised he didn't prescribe some type of cortisone to get you through the worse part. My doctor use to give me a shot now and again, but before that, the other doctor I had, before he retired, would give me pills, I would start out taking about six a day for so many days, and keep decreasing them until I was down to one a day for a few days. It did help to get through the worse part. But like I said, once the shots kicked in, where they give you what you are allergic to, to build up your immunity, anything for a quick fix is nice.

I don't remember what type nose spray I was using, but I no longer use it. Because, I ended up with thrush in my mouth two different times, finally the second time my doctor said, do you rinse your mouth after using the nose spray, I said no, no one ever told me to. He claimed that could cause the thrush.

SO JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE, AFTER SPRAYING YOUR NOSE, RINSE YOUR MOUTH AND EVEN GARGLE A LITTLE.

Hope you get some relief soon.

I have allergies all year. I use a nasal steroid which can't be good all the time. Wish I could find an alternative.

Good luck!
