Old Churches.....

When we were out for a drive the other day we passed a couple of old churches. I took the photos from the car, as it was bitter cold outside. The first one is at a hamlet called Alloa. I tried to find some info about the place on Google and found nothing??? Notice the shed behind the church, that is for the horse and buggies. The sad thing is there are plans for development of new subdivisions/estates on the opposite side of the road, so it will lose it's country feel eventually.

The next one is Union Presbyterian Church which I have to say is a stunning church. This one reminds me of ones back in England.

The last church is St. Lawrence Church in England where we got married (this photo was taken when we were in Britain last year). I featured more photos of the church in this post.

I love old churches......

I love churches too, especially if they are connected with our family history. Lovely pictures.

WE still have some of those horse and buggy churches here with the stoves using coal to keep the members warm. They are old order German Baptists, I think. Anyway I did enjoy having a look at your photographs. Nice post.

Me, too! Especially the ones with the bell that rings at certain hours of the day. I ran across one the other day and had to stop and listen.

Hi Gill,

in England, if not elsewhere, they've started converting old churches into apartments. I'm not sure if that's a good idea myself, sounds like cheap housing and I can't imagine they'd be nice places to live.

Beautiful. I love old churches and living in a rural area, old buildings or farm homes.

I don't think you live very far from me. I'm in K-W, Ontario. E-mail me at poetikat@myway.com if you're in the area.
Oh, and check out my blog if you get the chance. I love yours and will be following you as of now.

I came to you by way of Winifred.

The charm of old churches is undeniable. Thank you so much for sharing your photos. They are a treat for those of us living in a place like southern California, where our old churches are bungalows from the 1920's (if they've even survived). While the weather here is lovely, part of the price we pay for it the lack of such treasures as the old churches you've posted here. Thanks again.
Warmly,
Tracey

Hi Gill, I love old churches too. There is something about them that really brings you closer to heaven. I am not a fan of the new wave churches they don't have the art, history, feel of it all. There is something about walking into an old church and instantly connecting with God.
