Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians out there.....

It's Thanksgiving Day today in Canada.  We had a full turkey dinner yesterday as I know we are going to be busy with yard work today.

Dh suggested that we go out for a Thanksgiving meal, but that would have probably cost us $100.  Turkey's were on sale at No Frills for 95 cents per pound and they had small turkey's for a change so I picked up a 9 pounder.  Mind you they were utility turkeys so there may be a part missing!!!  In my case it was a leg; it cooked up lovely.

We had turkey, stuffing (recipe here), bacon rolls, mashed potatoes, carrot and turnip (or rutabaga) and gravy.  I didn't make bread sauce and I forgot the cranberry jelly in the fridge!!
It was really good, but honestly it takes a heck of a longer to tidy up than eat the meal!!  With the leftovers I put together two casseroles for the freezer.  I am freezing the one whole turkey breast.  There is a plate of sliced turkey, stuffing and bacon rolls for sandwiches and tonight's supper along with a bowl of potatoes.

For dessert we had apple crisp and ice cream and that too was really good.

I even used the dishwasher to wash up the dishes for me.  It was a cool day on Sunday, although we don't have the heating on we did have the fire on from first thing in the morning.  It is definitely getting cooler around here.

Hope you have a lovely week; I have something on every day this week......no rest for the wicked as they say!!

Oh That looks delicious. I bought two of those turkeys. I will cook them when the weather changes as for now my sister cooked turkey dinner and all I did was help do the dishes. Yum. Happy Thanksgiving. B

I didn't know you had thanksgiving in Canada Gill. Glad you had such a lovely meal. Looks like a delicious early Christmas lunch!

My husband cooks a big lunch for the whole family every few months but I get the clearing up. You're right it's a big job up even with the dishwasher. I have to leave the Yorkshire Pudding tins (note the plural he makes loads) for a couple of hours to steep so I'm still clearing in the evening.

It was good value though all those meals out of that turkey. Poor thing!

Happy Thanksgiving, Gill! I had my big dinner yesterday too. Raining today so no yard work for me. Must laze around and watch movies!

Happy Thanksgiving ! I love leftovers from Turkey dinners, so easy to prepare something else or reheat. The mess is crazy afterward, but the bounty so tasty.

I see you make sausage meat stuffing just like I do. Sometimes that is the best part of the turkey and I love turkey sandwiches as well. We had our dinner yesterday and today we will be tidying up the rest of the garden.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I always tell Roger it takes so much longer to cook the meal and clean up than it does to eat it. I didn't mind when we used to have several of us here, or people stopping in....and I guess I still am thankful to be able to have it...but still, it is an awful lot of work to be over and done with in such a short time.

But there are the fringe benefits of lots of leftovers!

Utility bird buyer here as well. I was missing a wing. We were talking about utility birds the other day at work and nobody I work with will buy a Butterball!

Trifle and/or Pumpkin Pie for dessert.

It really is a trial run for Christmas at my house.

I bought the .95cent/lb utility turkey too - missing part of a leg. Tasted wonderful! I refuse to pay over .99 cents per pound for turkey. Looks tasty!
