Writing a speech..........

On Friday I wasn't in the mood to do anything around the house in the afternoon.  So I decided to work on the speech for the wedding.  I am doing the speech for our side of the family, as dh is not keen on speaking in front of a 100 folk.
I had thought about it on and off for a while, and I thought I was just going to "wing it."  However I decided I had better go ahead and write it down, as dd has made the executive decision and decided that the speeches should only last around 2 minutes each.  A wise decision in my humble opinion, as more often than not the speeches are only pertinent for the immediate family. I practiced my speech and it lasted around the 2 minutes so that is good.

Do you like speaking in public, and/or have you made a speech at a wedding?

The wedding plans are all coming together and everything seems to be on schedule.  Our company arrives in just over a week and the wedding is now only 2 weeks away.  This month is speeding by, in fact this whole year has flown by.  Has it for you?

Hello there stranger!! :-) It has been too long since I stopped by and left a comment! Its been good to get your comments, and nice to catch up on your blog this morning! I cannot believe that the wedding is so close--Time has really flown by, hasn't it?

I think it's a good thing to write down what you'd like to say. So often people draw a blank at those times, and having something to 'prompt' you will be a big help and there is always some 'winging it' that happens, which just adds to it. But I personally don't like public speaking, but have been thrown into it because of being president of the rescue for 4 years, church, and having taught classes over the years. I'm told I'm good at it, and if I am, it's because of all the practice I've had thinking about what I'm going to say beforehand. But I know you'll do wonderfully because what you'll be saying will be coming from your heart!!

Enjoy your weekend!!

I used to teach, and act, so public speaking does not phase me at all.

I sort of wrote outlines for a speech for YoungerSon's wedding, but when I got up there I found myself winging it, and I'm really not a very confident public speaker, but I managed OK, even through the back row heckling of all his noisy university friends!!

Public speaking, oh no !!! I much better prefer being behind the scenes safely at the helm of my "blog" ... lol. In response to an early post, Gill, Mercedes is to be 14 weeks old this Tuesday; hope Molly is faring much better without any nasty itches going on :(

I am not fond of public speaking, but I can get by if have have something to read from, cannot "wing it".
I used to be like "Janet", so I joined a local theatre group, when I was in character on stage I had no problems, I wasn't me, I was the person in the play. It helped me get over the blushing and stuttering.
Glad wedding plans are on track.
Time does go so fast doesn't it, as you get older it goes even faster believe me.

I speak in public all the time, it's part of my job and I also studied theater in high school and cegep. I did a reading at my cousin's wedding last year and that was a bit nerve wracking as I was quite emotional and in front of a large group of people I knew, so I was quite happy to have it written down!

As for this year, it has definitely flown by and brought a lot of changes with it! I'm looking forward to what next year will bring :o)

I hate public speaking. It's a good idea to have it written and do a couple of dry runs.
Has this year flown by, it's been a whirlwind!! Seems like only yesterday it was January!

I have to do a speech at our local Legal Executive dinner on 2nd December. I am nervous already as it will be in front of 250 people but it should only last a few minutes.! Good luck!

I used to really hate speaking in public. I cannot say I really like it now, but I have been president and on boards of several groups so have learned to get over much of my fear. I'm sure you will do a GREAT job!

I've never been afraid to speak in public. I was in a play in high school and my college speech teacher was awesome. She took us to her women's club meetings for practice. I guess I couldn't have taught school too well if I had been very afraid. :)
I got a wonderful comment one night when I was a PTA President. It was from a Grandparent. He said I like to hear you talk. Guess my college professor did her job well.
