Close encounter with a snake and a book Review

Down in the corner of the property is this tree which is a lovely shade of yellow at the moment.

As I was cutting the grass on Tuesday I noticed that there were green things hanging off the tree.

Any idea what they are?

I went down to take some photos and decided to walk into the taller grass to see if I could reach some of the green things on the tree, when I stumbled upon a snake.  I let out an almighty scream and ran hell for leather up the hill.  Sorry I never got a photo!!!!

I was fortunate enough to receive this book from Harlequin to read and review.  What a super book it was with characters you can easily relate too.  The story gives you a sense of wanting to belong to a small town like Hope's Crossing where everyone cares about everyone else.

It's an easy read which doesn't tax the brain, with a feel good theme and a bit of romance thrown in there just to spice it up a bit.  Of course Chester the Basset Hound was my favourite characters, as I have always wanted a Basset Hound with those big sad puppy eyes!!

This would be a great book to read while waiting in a doctors office or when going on a trip, as you can easily pick up the story from where you left off.  I read it in one night, but I am a fast reader.

If you want to be part of Harlequin's reader panel and review books, here is a link  I think this is the third book they have sent me.  They send you a survey via email when you get a book and you have to fill that out and email it back to them.  It's another way to get free books and as I enjoy reading as a hobby its a good thing in my opinion.

I'm scared of snakes. However, your book is awesome. Hubby enjoys reading any book.

I don't have any idea what kind of fruit is this, but it's a scaring thing even to see a snake.

From what I can tell in your picture, they certainly look like the same leaves and walnuts that we have along our driveway .....

The snakes were out in force this weekend. I think they were enjoying the weather. I've seen a few eyeing up the rocks near the house for a winter home.

Ugh snake, not nice!
The fruit looks like it could be walnuts or greengages perhaps?

If the tree is at the corner of your property are there any on your neighbour's side? Maybe they would know.

Thank you for the pumpkin seed offer but I don't have a garden. I've gotten used to the carrot substitute after all of these years anyway. Do you use any Canadian substitutes for British foods?

Those are walnuts...you take the hull off and spread them out to dry if you can find some place the squirrels won't get to them.

We used to lay them out where cars would run over them, but we lived on a dirt road. If you take the hulls off and handle them any in doing so, be sure and wear good rubber gloves or your hand will be stained black and nothing to be done about it.

Hi Gill, You should have been at my house a few months ago. I had a brown snake ( one of Australias deadliest) living in my roof for months. I even got a pic of her and posted about it on my blog. No point in me screaming, she wouldn't take any notice. Maa.

Gill -- if you ever need a new career I would suggest stand up comedy -- you are so funny! I would have run from the snake too but it wouldn't have been a pretty picture. As far as bassett hounds go -- I had one and they are the most stubborn animals in the world. Sixty-five pounds of stubborn and they sink like stones in 15 inches of snow. But, they are beyond cute and almost irresistible.
