Well here we go.........

dd has only been engaged less than 48 hours and her dotty mother had to go out and buy a book.  What sort of book you ask: "The Everything Mother of the Bride Book."

I decided I had better read up on all the things I am supposed to do and wedding etiquette.  Now in my defence I haven't organized a wedding in over 27 years and that was in a different country, so figured I need a refresher course.

I also bought the Toronto Life "Wedding Guide," for 2011.  Thought that magazine would be helpful in finding "local" information.

So there you go it's already started!!!

Oh and then just for a change of conversation we finally splashed out and bought a new washer and dryer.  We are using the one left by the prior owners and they were probably bought when Noah was a boy.  So we got a LG front loader washer and an LG dryer; we got them at Lowes, as they had a better deal.  I hope these will save us both water and electricity.  They are delivering them on January 10th, and we are paying $75 for them to deliver them, set them up and get rid of the old set, which I thought wasn't too bad a deal.  Plus it saves dh's back!!

Hello Gill
You did so well at keeping that fabulous secret hidden didn't you - top marks for that:))
You know all those frugal ways you like to keep - well don't give them up and lets hope your bank balance is in the black 'cose you're in for shock at how much things cost in the nuptials dept - I'm sure you'll be fine with the wedding preparations - you'll be surprised at how many ways there are to tie the knot these days. Maybe you could ask Ds to donate his winnings to a good cause lol
Take care
Cathy

Dear Gill,

I am so pleased for your daughter's engagement and the impending nuptials - I am sure you will be a perfect "Mother-of-the-Bride" - just keep in mind that you, as parents, are 'giving her away' to a new set of parents - so be prepared to sit back and wait for the "good things" to come to you as they will do and be prepared (in a couple of years) to be the 'stand-by' holiday grand-parents!

Ciao and Congratulations

Well done for getting a front loader! Much more efficient both in the washing and in the amount of water used.
Can I put in a plea from a 'mother of the groom'? Please don't exclude the groom's mother in your preparations. She will want to be part of it if she possibly can. I've been there twice and neither time was I included in any way. I would have loved to have gone along with the bride-to-be to choose her dress (speaking as a mother of three sons!) or be asked to provide the cake or help set up the reception room or be asked for a comment on the music. Not to interfere, just to feel part of it. Please spare a thought for that person?
Blessings, Star

It's not dotty at all...I think it's a really great idea to start to familiarize yourself with the current customs and wedding "styles"...

There are lots of ways to keep things in check in the financial depart and still have a lovely wedding...I should know...3 weddings in 4 years and 2 of them were daughters...email me anytime.

hugs

I'm sure there's lots to learn about folks 'do' weddings now. Best to get stuck into the research. Happy reading and planning!
