When we were out and about on Saturday we saw a number of cars and trucks with Chirstmas Trees tied to them, "real" Christmas trees not artificial ones. Now me and dh were saying we thought it was a tad too soon for people to put up a real Christmas tree, as its still a month away.
So for those of you who put up a real Christmas tree, when do you generally put it up?
We have an artificial Christmas tree so can put it up whenever. I put up our tree on Saturday night, as Saturday night is hockey night and I don't like hockey, so figured I would do something useful!! I still have the rest of the house to decorate, I'll do that through the week.
Dd went to The One of a Kind Show in Toronto on Saturday with her friend and she said there were a lot of lovely things there. Some were expensive though, but some things were well priced. She bought a hat from this lady for a friend for Christmas. She bought this hat for someone else for Christmas. This lady, she went to school with up to Grade 5. We were trying to figure out the name of this type of paper art, but couldn't remember it, click on the cards to see the detail.

It's quilling...... Love your tree, when we used to have a real one we only used to put it up a week before xmas or it died!! XXX
I don't have a real Christmas tree as I like to put mine up quite early, yours is looking lovely. The paper art is called quilling.

Pretty tree. I meant to put ours up this afternoon, but had to spend the afternoon in the emergency dept. instead. Maybe during the week. we have an artificial tree, so no idea how long the real ones will last.
I think that papercraft is called quilling. Very pretty, and it looks loke it isn't too hard to do.
We have a fake one as well. Although my DH keeps going on about how he wants a real one since he had them all the time growing up. Seems a lot more expensive and messy to me!
My inlaws usually don't put their real one up more than a week before Xmas.
We still sue a real tree: Thanksgiving weekend we go to the tree farm and tag one as our own, then we return the weekend before the holiday to cut it down. When I was a child our tradition was to spend Christmas Eve decorating the tree, but now we do it sometime during the week preceding since we do Christmas Eve with my husband's family.
we usually have a real tree and it usually goes up around the 14th.

We have an artificial tree. Allergies. If I have my way, it goes up a week before Christmas. As soon as everything is over, the Organizer takes the whole things down. Done.
We don't do a tree anymore. The kids have seldom been home for Christmas anyway. What I have done is decorate our Ficus Benjamina, or the cat's 3-story tower! But the kids and granddaughter are cutting a tree next week!
I'll be the grinch here and admit that we we've not had a Christmas tree in many years--It's mostly because our previous house was small & no place to store an artificial one...While I love the smell of a real tree, they become so dry and needles drop everywhere--My vote is for an artificial one--There are some that look as good as the "real thing" and yours is one of them! :-)
Very pretty tree. I don't have ours up yet. Probably won't for another week. Back in the UK we put it up on Christmas Eve and took it down on the 12th night. Here many people put their decorations up on Thanksgiving. Those woolen hats are lovely and so are the cards but don't know what that is called.
I asked the 'real tree' question on my blog too, but my theory is that anyone who gets a real tree now must either use them to put up outside like we do at the Oratory or they have to get two which to me would be such a hassle. I have an artificial one which I'm going to put up tonight if I have time, but growing up we always had real ones that would go up two weeks before Christmas and come down just after New Year's usually and by then they were usually pretty dry.
I LOVED having a real tree as a child. We have an artificial one and it will go up at the end of the week before the kids go back to school I think. Your tree look lovely.
I havent a clue...we have a fake one as it lasts years lol! your tree looks lovely xx
we don't do a tree at all as we go away for christmas, I would think a week before christmas is plenty of time for a real tree.
GILL,
We now have a fake tree as Hubby likes to call them.
I'm really not a big fan of them but they have their advantages.
You can put them up earlier, they can take the weight of heavier ornaments and you don't have to remember to water them, plus less of a fire hazarded as the real tree dries out, plus you can leave them up longer with no messy needles to clean up.
I guess that's why we now have a fake tree and also I was really worried of watering the tree and having it leak on the hardwood floor.
I miss the smell of the real tree but the last time I was in my favorite craft store they have a spray you can use on the fake tree which makes it smell like a real pine or spruce tree
When we had a real tree the secret is to re-cut the bottom of the tree and water it like crazy with a bit of sugar water and it does keep a lot longer with out dropping it's needles.
Sorry to have rambled on.
Gill,
I also wanted to say how nice your tree looks.
Thanks Gill, husband had an accident. I've put more details in my blog post today. And I'm using the time waiting today to start the decorating.
We put our real one up a few days before Christmas so it's nice and fresh and isn't just "part of the furniture" by the time Christmas arrives.
Always have a real tree and never put it up much before the twelth Dec.
I do keep decorations up 'til twelfth night as we lived in Spain and the night of January fifth - The Three Kings is very special there.
The house always seems so bare when they go away & there are little circles of dust everywhere !
Our real tree goes up a week before Christmas and comes down on New Years day for a total of 2 weeks. Anything past that and it dries out too much.
We have fake. The bottom two feet of ours (in one week) no longer has any ornaments on it. Happily, the kitten is no longer sleeping on one of the higher branches. Truly hate have a Christmas tree AND kittens at the same time. It's such a battle.
I don't think I'd even like to have a real tree. Too much mess and bother.
