Our kettle has died............

As we are tea drinkers in this house an electric kettle is a priority.  So imagine my distress when it stopped working on Thursday.  Dh is an electrician so I had him look at it and it was something to do with the connection when we sit it on the stand as it was a cordless kettle, so not repairable.

Kettles and irons are small appliances I go through on piece.  Over the years I have tried buying cheap ones and expensive ones to no avail.  If I get two years out of them I am doing well.  The one that died was a Cuisinart one so a good brand and probably mid range as far as price goes.  I ordered one from Amazon.ca and it's a Sunbeam one, this one
The best thing of all it was FREE.  Yep FREE.  With me doing my Swagbucks I cash them in for Amazon.ca E-Cards.  So I always have money in my Amazon account, so in times of need I cash them in for things we need, in this case a new kettle.  Meanwhile I have had to hunt out our cheap kettle we take on vacation with us to the States.

glad you got it free! i agree price has little to do with how long an appliance will last. i buy most of mine second hand at goodwill, they seem to last as long as they should.

My kettles and drip coffee makers never last more than two years either, no matter what brand I buy!

Small appliances breaking down all the time makes me want to spit!! And they wonder why the landfills are so full. Good luck with your new free tea pot

Free is always good! We go through kettles at a good clip too although we do manage to hang on to irons longer -- probably because I don't iron much!

We just bought a new percolator and food processor. The old ones lasted well...but irons are another story!

It is a throw away World *sad*. Our kettle died yesterday too. I bought another Procter Silex as we have had pretty good luck with them in the past, however I do like the one you have much better. Mine cost $22.00 after taxes.

Yikes! When a British woman says her tea kettle has died that's a serious thing :) But Im glad you got a new kettle for free. We tend to go through small appliances pretty fast too--we consider ourselves lucky if the toaster over and iron make it past year two since we use them so often.

We live in a throw away society, and things are not made to last any length of time.
Wow, that was a bargain. I have had my tea kettle for years, and it is still going strong(she says with fingers crossed).
My son works for Electrolux, and I didn't know it until recently but they also manufacture and sell
tea kettles, toasters and irons, plus other appliances big and small.
He gave me an iron I wanted, worth
over $100.00, his employee price $28.00. I love it, use it a lot quilting.

Oh, Gill, I go through irons, too. I buy cheap, not so cheap, and even bought a Rowenta once...now I have a B & Decker and it has lasted quite a while for a change...I think at least 5 years! Though the other day it didn't heat up...I banged the side with my hand a couple times and it has been doing fine so far.

Also, we go through coffee pots fairly often, too!

I don't drink tea but my husband does. When our last kettle died I bought one of those hot water dispenser thingies. It's great for heating just a single cup of water, no waste!

Tuesday was a mixed bag type of day. Had the appliance repair guy come again to install another circuit board in the fridge.  When hubby got...
