I know, what the heck!!! It turns out I have been keeping the mouse and vole population alive and well through this cold season.
The basement in the new extension is a walkout basement with patio doors.
On Sunday Molly spent most of the day sitting in the front of the patio doors. I couldn't understand why. Finally after standing there for a while I saw what was interesting Molly. Little brown furry voles scurring back and forward eating the bird seed that the birds have discarded on the deck above.
So it seems the more I feed the birds the more I am feeding the mice and voles. Who knew I was such a humanitarian to all wild creatures!!! I personally don't have a problem with mice and voles as long as they stop outside and don't decide to move in with us.
I could have taken a better photo, but then you would see what sort of mess there is down there, despite the fact I have just tidied it up!! And do I really want the world to know what sort of mess there is down there.....NO!!
Did you put your money into your pot today for the Daily Savings Club? We are on the homeward stretch now of the first month!!
Today's Money Saving Tip:
Turn a critical eye to your “collections.” Most people collect something – what do you collect? Is it something that consistently brings you joy? Or is it something that you just do out of habit at this point? Does the collection itself have value? Could you perhaps “trim the fat” from this collection by getting rid of duplicates or getting rid of the items you no longer use? Also, could you perhaps cut down on your spending on that hobby? Focus on trimming the things you don’t feel strongly about – if you dig into things that bother you, you’re going to eventually relapse.

That's a cute post Gill.
ughhhhh! As you know I hate anything small and furry! You'd think all that ice and snow would kill the blighters!!! xxx
sweet ! I love Voles
Lucky little critters :) I am enjoying feeding the birds right now - they are very hungry. Goodness knows who else might be benefitting. I love most creatures - would probably draw the line at rats, but everyone else is welcome in my garden.....
Humanitarian indeed! Put our some water that you keep from freezing over throughout the winter and you could become one of those certified wilderness habitats ;o)
We put out bird seed to encourage the birds to forage in the backyard and get the ticks while they're at it. We have a very fat squirrel who has shown up to work right along side them. Everybody minds their own business and hunts seeds merrily -- until I let DearDog out.
Collections? Books. Never thought I'd be happy to part with so many, but I've been whittling them down the last year. Decided life is too short to dust so many. I'd rather trim the books to fit the shelves than get more shelves. When I sort, I pretend we are moving overseas in a year and can't take them all. Eventually I'll have it down to the basics.
Liz, in the library in the cold Republic
Thats why we have 6 outside cats,we reward them! lol
I downsized on my collections! Worked out great!:o)
Have a great day!

awww...I love little mice and voles...!! xxx
It's no telling what is under our deck either, Gill. Alot of the discarded bird feed goes down there... Who knows!!!! ha.. Guess I'm feeding all of the wild animals also!!!
I was reading your next post, and YES--I do believe in those gut feelings. When George and I bought this house, we knew the very minute we walked in --that this was what we wanted. Even after looking at tons of others, this was the ONE. We KNEW!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
I collect ideas. Books and bits of paper here and there. And after 30 years of being a journalist, I've got lots of them — all over the place. Time to start letting go of a lot of that. Well, at least some. But as long as I'm still writing. . . .
Strange: word veri. is "manatie." Made me think of manatees — not the prettiest, but very friendly.
You see if Molly had been a cat...............nil voles!
LOL!!
I love the tip of the day. I use to collect porcelain dolls. When we moved here I decided to give them away to an elderly lady who collects them. She was thrilled, I got rid of them and when she passes on they will go into the musuem here. Hugs
LOL.....the mice and voles will find every scrap of food every time.
