So why aren't you commenting.......

I know you're reading my posts, but why won't you comment on them? In case you're wondering, it's for all those people who pop by but don't comment.

I have "comment" envy, I pop over to other people's blogs, and they have 20, or 30 comments per post and I think WOW, if only 20 or 30 people would leave me a comment. Even just a little hi, or what you write is a load of twaddle, or even, I LOVE you're blog...........I know I really am desperate...LOL

I keep thinking to myself, I must be writing about the wrong things, or my blog is just plain boring. Then I wonder how on earth will I "perk" it up, I lead a pretty boring life. I get up, clean up, wash up and cook up, (doesn't make sense, but liked the "up" thing happening there).

Maybe I need to be more creative, or should I move in different circles, to make my life more exciting? Then I suppose that would defeat the purpose of moving to the country for a quieter life now wouldn't it?

I see I am going to have to think about this and try and figure out why no one wants to talk to me? So if you are a "lurker" let me know why you don't comment, I would love to know!!

I read lots of blogs, and rarely comment... which is bad of me because I also blog and don't get many comments either! Although I know there are people reading lol My excuse would be that I read blogs in google reader, so I rarely actually go to the blog. Commenting involves more clicking and waiting for pages to load.... I'm a bit lazy! Guess that's the downside to blog readers.

Gill I don't really know why more people don't comment. I often think the same on my blog. YEP I think I have comment envy too!!
I mean you have 125 followers so that should say to you people like what you write. So anyway everbody after you finish commenting here to Gill I would love you all to pop over to my blog & leave me a comment too!!

Well, I comment sometimes, just not every post. I simply don't have time to comment on every post of every blog I read. But I do know that it's nice to think that someone actually reads what you write, so I do try to comment on blogs when I think I have something useful to contribute.

I have the same problem as you although I try to camment on different contributions of the different challenges I participate in. the most difficult one is the 365 days in 2009 where people totally have forgotten me (that's what I feel sometimes anyway)

I confess, I am a lurker! Though I have commented a couple of times. Sometimes I have such a list of bloggers I like to visit (yours is one of them) that I have little time to comment. And now we are getting to the busy season and blog comments decline -- but I will still visit. I found that the secret to getting people to comment on your blog you have to comment on their blog. I also hate to comment something blah, like "these are beautiful" or "great photos". Sometimes I'm not feeling too creative to say much since I do most of my commenting before I go to bed and I'm tired. But you are appreciated!

ChrisJ said...

P.S. You are getting more comments than I am -- I just looked back to check. I get an average of about 7 after two years of blogging. I have to say that I find British bloggers are less forthcoming with their comments than some. It's the natural reticence of the British. I can say that because I am British.

i read your blog first every day (because you post every day so therefore it's always first in line on my blog roll). i try to comment as often as i can because i know comments are the life blood if you like of blogging. i appreciate that you visit me and leave a comment too.
keep up the good work. i find your new lifestyle really interesting and think you have a great work ethic for living economically.

(how's that for a comment?)
LOL

Haha now you'll get a ton of comments, I rarely post on anyone's blogs because I mostly pop by when I'm up in the mornings for work and barely have time to read everyone's blogs before I have to leave for work. :)

Yours is one of the blog that I read every day. I don't comment on many blogs. Your life is the same as mine when my children were growing up. We always moved to a home that needed some improvements. I feel your pains and enjoy your victories. I have battled ladybugs, mice and a home that was so neglected that you couldn't tell the true color of the floor tiles. Spic and Span was my best friend. I find your writing style enjoyable and look forward to reading each day. Keep up the good writing.

I think in this day and age blogging has become another popularity contest. How many people comment, how many people follow. See my blog is better than your blog.

I am just happy to have some people read about my little corner of the word; :)

Oh Gill! I know how you feel, but I am a newby at this blog business and figured it will come in time. Oooh and I would like to do a giveaway. I am sure that will draw them in!

gill yours is the only blog i read. Realistically with working full time and raising teenagers i know i can only follow so many so chose yours. I always read it, sometimes comment when I have time. what I wish I could do was figure out away for an email reminder to come up in my inbox when there has been a reply and then i would comment more, almost like a conversation. any ideas how to make that happen?
I love your blog and find you so practical and down to earth. Wish i had you as a neighbour!

Hi Gill, Yours is one of the first blogs I read each day and I love it just as it is - please don't change! The recipe column has been great - whenever I need a different recipe I know where to look. The hint on freezing left over bananas was super - I never waste any bananas now!! Thanks for sharing. Elcmae.
PS I get very few comments too but then I haven't been blogging very long!

Gill,
Love your blog site, and please don't change your style of blogging.
You are funny and I get a kick out of your rants. You have so much going on everyday that my day is just boring compared to yours. Which is why I don't blog everyday.

Let me add a comment!!!!
I have a ton of lurkers, too!
I know, for example, that my daughter reads My Muskoka every day on her lunch break. She comments from time to time.
Hubby...never.
Once, when I said we'd be alone of Thankgiving, a friend phoned inviting us to dinner. I didn't even know she read my blogs!
I have found that if you ask a question, or pose a problem, like this, people will respond!!!!

Jenn Jilks said...

P.S. This deal is to comment on every blog YOU read. Most will respond in kind!

You don't reciprocate with comments. I tried leaving comments here, but it was a one way street.

Hey! It's not much different in the town where I live. Everybody just minds their own business. [Might be better than the town I just left, though; there were some mean and nasty gossips there!] I know more about you than I do people on my own block! Funny world.

Don't blog for your readers. Just say what you want to say when you want to say it. Cool.

I think people are just lazy. They would rather read than comment and they can't wait to get on to the next Blog in case they are missing something. I always try to return the favour. If someone comments on my Blog, then I will comment back. I usually get about 7 comments. I used to post almost every day when I wasn't working. Now I am working, I don't have time so I post about twice a week and read every day. Trouble is I have so many Blogs I like to read that I can only read about 6/7 a day. I usually look down the list on the right in the Dashboard and pick the ones which look the most 'up my street'. I wish I could read more but if I did I wouldn't get my cooking etc. done. I have often wondered, like you, why people don't comment. Perhaps I should do a post like yours and find out why.
I recently looked at my profile and saw that I had had 7500 peeks on it. All those people took the trouble to find out more about me and still they don't comment. That's just people, I suppose.
Trouble is, if people don't comment, then why should you bother? That's what I think most days.
Blessings, Star

Ah yes, comment envy, I often get that too. Especially on my Skywatch posts because I see that a lot of people get like 20 or 30 comments on their photos and I rarely even get 10. I'm trying to perk my blog up too to get more readers and I do seem to be succeeding as I got two new followers this week. How did I manage that? I started posting every day about the mundane things I do! But I do also have a counter on my blog that tells me how many hits I get, so that helps to alleviate comment comment envy ;o)

Gill, you're blog is never boring!!! Glad to see you got 24 comments to this post.

I think a lot of people read various blogs they follow through readers like Google Reader or Bloglines and so don't click through to the blog to leave a comment. I'm guilty of doing that as well.

Hi Gill
I started reading your blog a while back. I find you funny, interesting, wholesome, and honest. I guess I just like listening to you via your blog. Good listeners to our problems are rare and appreciated, in my opinion, anyway. Wish someone would listen to my rants and raves without feeling the need to comment. Please keep blogging. It eases my mind knowing others are going thru similar things/thoughts. Please do not take the lack of comments as rude. We, lurkers, don't mean to be rude. But we are listening. And we do enjoy your daily trials.
p.s. I love your sunset photos. It's the best time of day, don't you think?

That's not too shabby, is it?
I often think the same thing, why does no-one comment about my posts.
Who knows, eh?
I shall just keep writing them anyway.

29 comments - it must be working, this direct appeal! lol. I knowwhat you mean thiugh, I dont sem to get many either - whats the winning formula? I wish I knew! Still we have each other! and its nice to get the comments when we do.
I think lots of photoo's help - at least I like to look at photos, especially when they are from bloggers in other countries, the scenery, and different cultures, anything that brings a different 'veiw' into my life. I doont get out of the house much, so blogging has been a big thing for me.

I've only just started reading your blog. I never comment because sometimes I just don't have much to say. My Dh would think that was a miracle!!

Much better now??? ;-)
I enjoy your blog very much, as I'm sure you know...I noticed a decrease in commenters once I allowed my full post to be printed in the Reader. People no longer need to click through to read the rest of your post and so don't comment as much.

Helen said...

Here's another one for you, I read and don't comment unless something really grabs me. I am like that irl too, usually listen more than talk. I am still learning blog etiquette. Not all my posts are for my readers, some are more just a visual diary and I am enjoying that aspect as well.

Tas said...

Good response to your topic hey? I have only been in the blogging world for about 8 months. As I picked up blogs, I'd read and comment heaps but I have noticed that of late, while I am still reading, the commenting is waning. Just time poor I guess. Nothing personal.

LOL - 34 comment so far, this one will be 35th. Ok, that's a lot!!

I think I read too many blogs to comment, I guess it just comes down to laziness. I do blog but I think mostly it's more for me to be able to look back on, I'm not worried about being popular in real life and I guess that follows on to my blog.

Hi Gill,

I am one of your lurkers : ) I enjoy reading your blog. It is like visiting a friend. I enjoy reading about your house adventures. I have always wanted an old stone house. Your blog has made me think twice on that score LOL.

I read your blog everyday. I don't comment much, but like alot of people are saying I read so many blogs a day that I couldn't possibly comment on each one. I love reading your blog. I love reading it because we live in the same area so I can really relate. Keep blogging and I will try to comment more. Oh by the way do try the heart worm for your dog. It may stop the itching. It did mine. You could do a search on line and find out it anyone else has had success with it.

LOL like u've got urself 40+ post now!! :D i know it's really affirming to see comments n i miss seeing more than 2 comments per post on my blog. but i'm pretty sure there are many 'stakers' around who read but not comment. :)

My sincerest apologies Gill, I often drop by without leaving a comment and I feel many people do on mine too. For me its simply a lack of time. I really enjoy your blog and all your goings on.

Gill I do comment from time to time but I have been lazy recently, but I am still reading. You feel comment envy, pop over to mine and see how sad it is over there, you will feel a whole lot better LOL. Well Gill, I think you see by all these comments how popular your blog is. You have a great blog and I am glad people are letting you know that. I get a little behind and am always trying to catch up but I will comment when I visit, unless something crops up just as I am about to, like when something boils over on the stove - lol. Keep on blogging Gill, you brighten our day.

50 comments what an awesome reply. Sorry Gill I was drowning in sewing yesterday for the upcoming craft fair so I did not go into blogland, in fact right now I should be downloading a design and not blogging LOL, shhhhhh don't tell please! Your blog is great and you don't need to tweak it anyway. You see I live in a concrete villa, with pavers as a yard. So when I go on to your blog I get transformed into the a greener life for just a few moments. i don't care if its news of molly, your trips, the flies, whats growing, or anything it is nice to know what you have been up to. So keep it up and no changes needed!

Mack said...

Oh dear - I am so sorry Gill. . . I don't have a blog but I love reading them, and I just don't comment on all of them. I have NO EXCUSE.

Thanks for the reminder, as I think it is important to comment, or else you'll all think no one comes by, or cares enough to comment.

I'll be improving!

Stephanie D said...

Um, well, it's my own fault, really. You usually post daily, sometimes more often, and with my schedule, there might be 3 posts up by the time I can comment (like today!), so then I feel my comments are no longer relevant--everyone's moved on already.

But I enjoy reading the posts, so even if I'm behind, I'm still reading!

Of course, I have a counter and on some days when I post, there may be 4 comments, but the counter shows 39 visits. So I have readers but not commenters. Shrug. I guess it's just the nature of things. I think some people enjoy reading, but don't think they have anything to contribute. They're wrong, of course!

Gill,
I have almost as many followers as you do, but am pretty sure there are some who don't read my blog as often as they used to. The number of comments I get varies from post to post.

I have so many I try to keep up with, that I would have to read around 20 a day in order to read each one once a week. So, I don't keep up, and don't always get comments left. When I do, they are frequently like the ones someone here said are not creative.

One thing to keep in mind, is that some people reply to each comment individually, so some of those huge numbers of comments are ones they have made.

I see the numbers of comments you have on other posts has gone up. Cool!
