Bit of a whine......

Its February here in Canada, which is generally the coldest, snowiest month of the year. So the other day I went out to buy dh a new pair of snow boots. I thought this would be a simple thing. Two and a half hours later I finally find a pair. There were no snow boots to be had, and the only pair I could find were $130 Now to be fair they are a good quality boot and should last a long time, but $130??

Now for the whine, what was in the stores was all the Spring and Summer stuff. Again let me remind you, February is the coldest, snowiest month of the year here in Canada??? What is it with these retailers, okay you have to be ahead of the game, but what the heck. I know on Boxing Day one store had all the Valentine's things out. Most people don't think ahead of the game, and Valentines Day would be the last thing on their mind on Boxing Day, don't you think?

I am quite sure this happens all the world over, but gosh it is annoying!!!!

Love to hear your stories.........

It's the same here. It's cold and snowing out, which in this place is quite unexpected so you might think at least a few people were caugh unaware and are in need of a pair of wellies or a sturdy jacket, but if you go to the stores, you're more likely to find swimming coustumes or sun dresses.

I've been complaining about that sales tactic for years. It is SO annoying!

agree- try getting slippers here in the spring or summer. Apparently no-one wears them except at Christmas or Father's day

I used to work on saturdays for woolworths in the UK when i was at school, many years ago now. We had a standing joke there that you could tell it was Christmas because the Easter eggs were being delivered to the store. Nuts, isn't it?

Same down here in the U.S. Our real winter is February and March. Been known to snow in April and May, too. But the winter stuff is on sale and the bikinis are already on the racks. And we don't even have any beach!!!! We won't be able to get any canning jars until June. Nuts is right.

Our local Walmartz had Christmas and Halloween out at the same time.
Before you know it, we'll have Christmas out during July.

Yes, Gill, the same is true here also!!! No sooner than Christmas was over, there was the Valentine's stuff. On Feb. 15, I'm sure they'll switch to St. Patty's Day, etc. etc.etc.

Fencepost is right. Soon, they'll be featuring Christmas in July!!!!

Have a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy

You're right -- it happens everywhere it seems. The retailers may be ahead of the game, but it's almost impossible to find something when you need it!

same here and it is so annoying! I mean if your child outgrows or rips his snow suit or pants in February, you have no hope of getting a replacement except for thrift stores and they don't carry alot for boys. I don't understand the tactic, Canadian Tire had their gardening stuff out a month ago. you can't even find the ground! eevlyn

Yep, same here too. Easter is all over the stores and it's in April!

I have thought for years that it is just crazy to look at swimming suits in February, or heavy coats in July.

Valentine stuff was in the stores before Christmas, but you can bet that Easter will be on the shelves before February 14.

Nuts.

We have the same thing happening here all the time. We get the summer catalogue before Christmas. You can't find hardly anything to do with winter shortly after Christmas. It's very frustrating.

It's all backwards now, isn't it!you're supposed to buy winter boots in September and a swimsuit in January! Of course, we do tend to buy all our Christmas presents in January, so I shouldn't complain too muuch!

Having the same boot problem with my daughter. She got use out of her ones from last year until now...her poor toes are really squished...and the oh, so wonderful mother I am says "Oh I'm sure you can make due for another few months." And then she shows me her toes after an afternoon of wearing them...a little squished, almost like rug burn as she puts it! I finally after 2 weeks found a pair in the catalogue her size. I think we were down to her 10th choice as everything was sold out. So, yes I can relate. Oh and the Christmas wishbook coming out when school starts is ridiculous!! Found your blog through scrappyquilter, nice to meet you! Blessings, Heather
