Turkeys are on sale for 79 cents per pound at Wal-Mart this week. You can get a small turkey cheaper than a chicken. A lot of people don't like having endless leftovers but here is a great link with twelve delicious recipes that use left over turkey:

We are hosting Thanksgiving on the Saturday and instead of having a traditional Turkey Dinner we are mixing it up slightly and are including a couple of salad and only roasted potatoes and root vegetables as the sides. I will stuff the turkey and make gravy, but want to make it as simple as possible for myself.
I got another parcel in the mail and it had this sticker on the back of the package.
That sticker makes you smile doesn't it? Inside of the package was this book, that I need to read and review in October.
Just a reminder I do have another blog for all my book reviews, here. I have just read and reviewed The Book Thief for our October Book Club meeting.
I am a British born, living in Canada since May of 1989. My blog is about all aspects of my daily life.

Another Christmas over with.
We had a lovely time and we were lucky to get some lovely gifts, especially from the kids. This is what was in the gift box from them:
A $25 Subway Gift Card.
A $50 Bistro Seven Seven Gift Card
A $50 The Crazy Fox Bistro Gift Card
A $25 Tim Horton's Gift Card
A $25 Bon Appetit Gift Card (Kelsey's, Harvey's, Montana's, Milestone's & Swiss Chalet)
A $25 William's Fresh Cafe Gift Card
We asked for gift cards to restaurants, and this is perfect. We also got a $25 Bon Appetit from another couple.
We played The Game of Life and had a good time. Will say it says it's for people age 9 +; we all thought it was confusing enough for adults remembering all the rules never mind children under 12.
I made a Butterball turkey, you cook if from frozen, so it took 6 hours to cook. It was stuffed and I must say neither me nor dh were very impressed with it. I prefer my own stuffing and a basic utility turkey; so back to that next year. Will say it's a lot of work for a meal eaten in 20 minutes.
I think we all had a nap in the afternoon...........I blame it on the turkey, not getting old!!
Hoping to get some deals in the sale today. Do you go shopping on Boxing Day?

This looks icky.........
I have these on my pears trees, no idea what they are but thought I'd enlarge the photos so you got a good look!!
They are not on my apple trees, but the leaves are all rusty and chewed on both the pear and the apple trees.
I took a sample of the leaf and the black things to the garden centre and they told me to spray them with this:
Now I am not one to use chemical on my garden, but the guy said I could drink this stuff if I so desired........I don't......as it doesn't contain pesticides as our Provincial Government doesn't allow it.
Molly started barking up a storm the other night, as this daft turkey went wandering by.......and then it came back for another look....crazy bird..........not sure what Molly would have done if we had let her out?
Found a new site called "What's Cooking Grandma" I was looking for recipes for blackcurrant jam and stumbled accross this site. My blackcurrants are starting to darken and ripen, so I reckon in another week I will make a start on picking them. We don't like blackcurrants but I wanted to do a few pots as favours for the wedding along with the raspberry jam. The rasps are still a couple of weeks away from being ready.

It's one of those days/night where I have nothing much to say..........
so I guess I will just ramble on about nothing as per usual.
Molly's ears have stopped smelling....yeah for that. I feed her twice a day, most days. No specific time, just when her bowl is empty. I have discovered she likes to have something to eat before she goes to bed, but other than that it's whenever she is hungry. Luckily she has dry food, so it doesn't go off, and it's lucky she doesn't have a housemate that is also a dog!!!
Here she is on "her" side of the sofa, which actually makes a change, as she normally takes up half of dh's side as well!!
Yes she is spoiled!!
Going to get my Christmas turkey today at No Frills, as they have them on for 77 cents per pound. I don't think I have ever seen them that cheap in Canada? Now granted they are Utility Turkey's which means it could be missing a leg or a wing, or the skin may be torn....basically rejects.......but they taste as good as the regular turkeys. Might have something to do with all the butter I slather on the top of the breast, and all the bacon I skewer on the top as well!! Hey, in for a penny, in for a pound as they say!!
Gosh this post is boring, I'm sorry, hopefully tomorrow will be better!!

Let's talk Turkey and Gas/Petrol Prices.....
It always amazes me how much we all pay for the same thing, and what the differences are. So with that in mind, how much are turkeys where you live?
I was super pleased to be able to get that little fellow below for $1.27 per pound at Food Basics yesterday. I am generally pleased if I can buy them for $1.49 per pound so this was a bonus as far as I was concerned. I was going to buy two, but dh isn't that excited about turkey!! Isn't it strange when someone get all excited about turkey prices!!!

Now for Gas/Petrol prices. Not long ago we were paying $1.30 a litre, we're now down to 76.2 cents per litre. That is over a 50 cent per litre drop???? And they say the gas companies are not playing games???? What's your take on all of this? Also what is the price of gas where you live. My prices are all in Canadian Dollars.
For those of you in Canada and the States, here is a great site called Gas Buddy that tells you where the cheapest gas is in your neighbourhood. I found this site via the Bzz Agent site.
