Bought these containers on Amazon a couple of years ago to catch fruit flies; as "tis the season for them!!  Useless.

This is exactly the best way...and adding just a couple of drops of liquid dish soap speeds up the process 👌
We add a couple drops of dish soap too and pretty much always have a little bowl of the vinegar solution on the kitchen counter. Sometimes I put one near my plants too.
I've heard this idea before... great that it works. I'll remember it for the future.
We've used those homemade traps too and they work so well!
Been lucky enough so far to not have any of them. I will be doing the cider vinegar and dish soap at the first sighting of the pesky things.
