First my excuses.......

Which will only interest you if you are a quilter!!

1. I haven't sewn in probably a year.
2. I have never sewn this pattern before.
3. I did read the instructions, honestly, but obviously not well enough!!

So I did post a couple of photos of the baby quilt pieces I cut out on yesterday's post.  It wasn't until I had sewn a lot together and cut them up more, that I discovered I had been too enthusiastic in my cutting and sewing.  As I had bought this as a kit there wasn't any surplus material left over, so I had to improvise.

I first set the squares out in a couple of patterns on the kitchen table to see which way was the best:

When I decided on what I liked best I sewed them all together to make the quilt top.

This is a close up of part of it.

So instead of it being called "The Yellow Brick Road," pattern, it's now called, "Gill's Surprise."

Was watching Jamie Oliver the other day while having lunch, the show where he has Great Britain in the title?

Doesn't matter, because I was laughing so loud and hard I thought I was going to pee my pants.  He was tasting a sandwich in the street and a little old lady passed by and said hello.  He said hello back and asked if she would like a taste of his sandwich.  She said yes and he said:

"Mind you don't get it stuck under your plate (false teeth)."

Only in England.........by the way he wasn't making fun of her, he genuinely meant her to watch what it, as the roll was a crusty one.

The quilt is lovely..and did you realise what the name of his van implies? I was very shocked...didnt expect it from Jamie!

I am not familiar with the pattern "Yellow Brick Road" so I can't see what you have done "wrong" but my opinion is, there is no "wrong" in quilting! Your seams match up beautifully, I love the fabric, and I think it turned out great! I anxious to see the finished product. BTW -- "Gill's Suprise" is a great title -- I have had many "Melissa's Surprise" in my quilting years!

Or call it Gill's wonderful creation. Patterns are overrated, I use them as a suggestion most of the time. Congrats on a great finish

Don't know anything about quilting except I can't do it. I'd have smacked Jamie Oliver..these are all my own teeth you know..all bought and paid for.

Good job on your creativity; I would have sat down and cried more then likely out of frustration.

Gill, I love your quilt, no one but yourself knows what it should look like.
Jamie Oliver, I like watching his TV shows seems to be down to earth and his food always looks so good, with such little effort, (I know he has a lot of help).

No mistakes in the quilt...just design decisions! I have never made a quilt from a kit..and don't suppose I ever will. I always want to change something...like someone else said--patterns are just a design suggestion.

I always wonder...do you get some of the shows we get...like New Tricks...or Masterpiece Theater, or Masterpiece Mystery? And there are others...what I get that is British is on PBS and I love most of it.

And there was once a show on called Dad's Army--about the homeguard. Well, the title did not appeal to me so did not watch it till I was really bored and there were parts in the episodes that cracked me up...

LOL I love both Gill's surprise and the part about the lady's teeth. I sooooo want to go to the UK--the British sense of humor cracks me up, I think I would laugh my way from one end of the country to the other!

Gill,
I think you are doing a great job on the baby quilt. I just love the animals, they look so happy.
Can't wait to see the finished results. She will be one proud mama showing off her newborn under or on top of this quilt.
What a great gift.

I think the quilt looks great! I'm trying to make a start on my sister's baby quilt but can't decide on style or colour, which is kinda important!
Love your photo slideshow, the house is looking so fabulous!
