Packed lunch

Hubby takes a packed lunch every day for his lunch at work.  As he is retiring soon, I thought I'd record what he took for lunch for one week at work, so I could look back and remember what I used to pack.

I will say for many years he took sandwiches, but he wanted to change it up a couple of years ago, so change it up I did.  Then we got one of the divided lunch boxes, so changed it up again.

He takes lunch four days a week, and on the fifth as he works only until lunch time, he just takes a couple of snacks/breakfast and has lunch at home.

So here is what he took one week for his breakfast and lunch.

Monday: He had, a wedge of cheese, a boiled egg.  Two cooked sausages, sliced up with a small container of mustard.  A bag of crackers, cut up cucumber and dip.  Melon, a pudding and a yogurt.  He did not eat it all.

Tuesday: A muffin, a Scotch egg, crackers, cucumber and dip.  Yogurt and pudding.  The melon was under ripe, so had to throw it out.
Wednesday: I had lunch out the day before and I didn't eat my spinach and feta pie from the Greek place, so gave that to hubby with the dip.  A boiled egg, cucumber, crackers, Bear Paws yogurt bar, a granola bar, a pudding and a yogurt.
Thursday: Cucumber and dip, a Scotch egg, cubed cheese.  Crackers, Bear Paw yogurt bar, Fruit Filled bar, a granola bar, a banana, a yogurt and a pudding.
He has no fridge to put his lunch box in, so uses a couple of ice packs.  However, when the temperature is very high outside, I have to be careful with what I pack in his lunch.

When we eat lunch at home, we often eat Ryvita crackers with cottage cheese or Hummus and rice crackers.  Along with fruit and granola bars, or apple sauce.  We have our main meal at night.

New House.......

Our new home is a bungalow again, just like our last home.  There were a few reasons we bought this house.  The size, it's around 1,400 square feet with two bedrooms, a large living area, a kitchen/diner and bathroom on the main floor.  A large family room, a laundry/storage room, another bathroom and bedroom in the basement.  Plus the all important two car garage.  We dh has a lot of stuff/tools etc.  It has a lovely front porch where we can sit and because it is at the end of the street, lots of windows that make the house light and airy.
A big selling point is the park for the grand kids.  It's right across the street, but far enough away so not to be too noisy.  You can't see it now, but the residents of the subdivision flood part of the grass to make a community ice rink in the winter.
There is also a pond and a green space across the road as well.
The location was also a big draw for us.  Although we have moved 30 minutes north, we are exactly the same distance and time from dh's work, as he wants to continue working for a couple of more years.  We are on the edge of a city but only 10 minutes drive from all the stores I love!!!  Due too all the green space around us it feels as though we are in the countryside.

We are a five to ten minute drive from our son's home.  We are a 75 to 90 minute drive to our daughter's home depending the day of the week and the time of the day.  We use the 400 and 401 highways to get there which are major highways around Toronto.  Then we are probably 80 to 100 minutes away from "R" and the other three grand kids.

So far we are loving it here and it's beginning to feel like home now.

A bit of this and a bit of that........

Just seen a hot air balloon go past the house.  Looks kind of fun, if you don't mind heights.......

The morning's are so nice and cool at the moment, just love that.

Dh's hand is on the mend, still wearing the brace at work.

Talking about his work, the factory where he is contracted out to had to call the police in, as someone was growing marijuana plants in the grounds???  No one was arrested!

Dh was up at 2:30 am this morning to go to work........hopefully he'll be home by lunch time......

Our Little Munchkin went on a Thomas the Tank Engine train ride last weekend and had a great time:
This week she also said Nana without someone prompting her to say it!

Got all 9 gnomes done, just making another three now as "spares."

Our Little Man was running a temperature this week, but is fine now.  He'll be one on September 12th.

Our Little Princess has a new name now; "Little Miss Chatterbox," as she never shuts up and is always asking why.......sound familiar!

Going to get the yearly sticker/licence for my car today, as it goes up $10 in September......AGAIN!

Right; better get in the shower as just just after 7:30 am.  Have a great day!

Busy, busy, busy

Life is busy around here at the moment, so I thought I'd pop in and fill you in on what has been and is going on.

The folk that bought the house had their walk through on Sunday afternoon, so the house got a good clean through before they arrived so that was good.  At least it got me ahead of the game for the week.  Haven't heard anything back about their visit, so assuming they were all happy, happy with everything?

Not sure if you remember when we were being attacked by a very amorous Red Cardinal last year?  Well this year we have a woodpecker who sounds like a jack hammer on our roof.  I have to keep chasing it; it's driving me potty!!!

Got our new bed delivered on Monday:

It's a beige linen material with antique bronze nail heads.  I have to tuck in the coverlet now though to make it look right.

Had a mammogram on Monday and I'll say what I always say,

"A man must have invented that machine!!"

Haven't been around by the new house since Saturday.  They have been doing the tiling.  The neighbours above us are moving in tomorrow; wish it were us.  Picked up some more bits and bobs for the house, will have to take some photos.

Narrowed down the choice of drapes from the bedroom; going to go with the Ashton ones from Bed, Bath and Beyond:

At work on Wednesday, so will be back on Thursday.

Off to work today

for the second time this week, which makes a nice change.  Thankfully the weather cooperated over night and it should be a reasonably easy drive to work.  It helps that it is March break here so the traffic is lighter.  It takes me an hour to drive to work.  Thankfully most of it is countryside driving and only 20 minutes of it is city driving.  None of it is highway driving which also helps.

Thought I'd leave you with a photo of Miss Nora asleep in her crib.  The crib looks enormous for her.
When she is put in her crib she is swaddled, but she has to have her arms out as she does not like those wrapped us.  She turned herself over the other day by herself for the first time.  She will be 4 months old on the 16th.

I'm still alive.......

and I am down to my last day of work on Friday.  It's surprising how you get into a routine, but I am still tired and other than making supper and keeping up with laundry that's about all that's getting done.

Work wise things have come back to me and it's been nice to catch up with everyone.  Oh and it turns out if you're in a grumpy mood you can collect more money...LOL  I have been busy chasing up people to pay their invoices and have enjoyed every bit of it despite my feet!

However I am hobbling around like an old woman as my poor feet are killing me especially my right one.  I have a case of plantar fasciitis and it bloody well hurts.  My feet have been bothering me for a couple of weeks and I have been wearing my crocs in work; but today it took a turn for the worse and it is very, very painful.

It must be sore as I have a full day planned of being out and about on Saturday and am thinking of cancelling that and putting my feet up to rest them.............so yes for me to turn down a day out it has to be bad.

I am continuing to drive like Miss Daisy and haven't had any more incidents with my friends the police!!  The weather has been nice all week which has made the commute a lot easier.  It turns out it is costing me around $10 a day in gas for the car.  I get gas down the road from us as it is around 3 cents cheaper a litre than in the city.

I am seeing signs of Spring in the city with lots of Canada Geese flying around.  Meanwhile here at home there is still lots of snow and the driveway is still like a skating rink!!!

Got a couple of busy weeks ahead of me, with a number of things planned to do around the house, including finishing the baby quilt.  The top is sewn just have to sandwich it together and quilt it.  Have a couple of chairs to recover, and I would like to get the stairs varnished this month also.

Hoping to get back into routine of blogging and visiting everyone's blogs again next week.

Short and sweet.........

At work again today.

Ds is doing a lot better, in that he is starting to eat a little bit.  Still coughing up a storm and still coughing up phlegm, but he is having longer periods in between coughing.  He is still exhausted but is a bit brighter in himself.  I have no idea how on earth he is going to manage going to work next week, but no doubt he'll try.

Thanks for all your kind words, they are greatly appreciated.

Coming to the end of Raspberry season....

I picked more raspberries last night, but due to some rain we have had they are past their best.  Still hoping to get a couple more batches of jam made though for us for the year.  We were lucky though as all in all it has been a good crop this year, which was a blessing with us having the wedding jam to make.  Got another handful of blueberries picked and am thinking about looking for some more blueberry plants to plant.

It seems to be one of those mornings where it is dull and damp and humid, so other than making the jam not too sure what I should start on from my to-do list.  Got four books yesterday to review so I may make a start on one of those.   I got two big yellow zucchini given on Monday so may make this sausage risotto for supper, as it's a while since we have had that.

Work was busy yesterday and I was as stiff as a board from sitting in the one position at my desk for a long period of time.  Still accomplished a couple of things so that was good.  One thing for sure the traffic on the roads is a lot less, there must be a lot of people on vacation at the moment.

Enjoy your Wednesday everyone what ever you are doing.

Off to work today......

covering for L as she is off today, so I am guessing I will be run off my feet as it has been busy at work recently.

Managed to get the grass cut for the week, but if it keeps raining it will grow like mad again no doubt.

All the berry bushes are just hanging in fruit, as are the wild apple trees.  My apple trees are bare again, but as this is only year three I am not panicking......YET!!!  I even have a dishful of blueberries on my three bushes, so lets hope the wildlife don't take them as they are not ready yet!!  Don't have any strawberries though as the squirrels have stripped them clean.  Must think of a better way to protect them from the little devils next year.

Well my cup of tea is finished, Molly has to have a quick trot around the field yet, and then it's time to go to work.  I start at 8am and have to be out of the house by 6:45am as it takes me an hour to get to work and you never know what the traffic is going to be like when I hit the city.  Roll on 5pm when I will be home again back to the peace and quiet!!!

Have a good day!

Gill

Spoke too soon........

Not feeling well at all.  It is a sinus/head cold thing I have going on. (((SIGH)))  Will be back later on in the week, hopefully!  😰😩😩
