The 2019 Great Frosted Glass Debate!!

I have to say this all started with my mother.  She was telling me that she had the Blind Man coming over to measure up some windows in her house for blinds and that included her bathroom.  I was confused as she has a frosted window in her bathroom.  We then got into a debate about if you need blinds on a frosted window.  She was in the yes you do camp and I was in the no you don't camp.

As you can see in our main bathroom we have no blind up as we have a frosted window.

 When I brought this up to my dh though he agreed with my mother {{{SIGH}}}
So to make everyone happy I ordered a top down, bottom up blind from BlindsGalore.  I have ordered from them before and have always been happy with their product.

Do I love this blind, not really, but for $80 CDN it does the job.  Now the neighbours can't see us when we're in the bathroom.  Didn't think they could anyway???

Frosted windows, do you need blinds/curtains up in front of them?  Which camp are you in?

Loving Christmas Shopping via the internet........

Got another parcel in the mail yesterday.  This time from Tupperware.  Who knew that you can order Tupperware without having to go to a party?  I am a HUGE, HUGE fan of Tupperware.

Can't say what I got, but I know both items are useful and fun!  The photos though suck.  I need to fire the photographer and get another one........oh wait that's me!!

I ordered a couple of things from Land's End also the other day for the first time.  Never done that before?

I checked out the home of the week and it's a 60's flashback.  Quite pricey at $2 million, but can't say I was offended by any of the decorating.  If someone where to give it to me I wouldn't say no.

Now the condo of the week, I will pass on despite it being relatively cheap for Toronto at only $380,000.  It's described as "spacious," I beg to differ on that.  Look at the size of the kitchen, can you actually call that space a kitchen?  The foyer wastes a huge amount of square footage.

Got the last of the blinds from Blindsgalore.
Really pleased with them.

Sharing a couple of photos.

Despite the fact that it is so humid at the moment, I picked up a Fall Wreath for the front door at Pier One today.  They had 20% off and I also had a $10 off coupon when you spend over a certain amount.
Dh also got the blinds up on the windows beside the door.  I am not as happy with these ones.  However due to the width of the windows, just over 9 inches, I was limited in what I could put there.  I am still waiting for the ones for the kitchen as they are the sheer ones that match the living room.
Here is an up to date photo of our Little Munchkin:
Her parents just had the basement carpeted on Thursday, as they have been renovating it all.  She was enjoying crawling around the open space without being told not to touch things!!

More blinds from Blindsgalore.....

We got our latest blinds from Blindsgalore on Tuesday and must say we are very pleased with them.  This is the blurb about them:

Sheer blinds, also called sheer shades, are refined, elegant and versatile window treatments. Comparable to the Silhouette, sheer horizontal blinds feature two sheer fabric facings over soft fabric vanes.  Sheer vertical blinds feature a light filtering material between hanging fabric or vinyl vanes.  Blindsgalore offers discount sheer shades from Bali, Levolor & Comfortex as well as our own signature line.

In Canada I only see the one type of sheer blind to order, I think they have more selection in the States.

It is raining today so I couldn't get good photos.  I didn't order blinds for the doors, but am going to now as I like them so much.
The two windows below took dh all of 30 minutes to install them, as he had the tools and step ladder out.
There are three brackets on this window with two screws in each bracket.  You need a tape measure, a pencil, a drill to drill a pilot hole and a screw driver to screw the screws in.  That is it.
As the side windows are less than 24 inches wide, we only used two brackets.
They let plenty of light in, but give us privacy at the same time.  Very pleased with the quality.  Now I didn't get a price on the Hunter Douglas Silhouette blinds, but I am guessing these were half the price and as good a quality.

Update on blind I ordered over the internet.....

I first mentioned in this post about ordering a blind online for our bathroom from Blinds Galore.  Our daughter had ordered a couple and was pleased with hers so I thought I'd give them a try.

I ordered it on June 30th and it arrived on July 9th via Fed-Ex.  Now remember both Canada and the States had a holiday during that time, but I thought it arrived in a timely fashion.

Took dh all of 15 minutes to install it and it fit perfectly.

I ordered :
1 Blindsgalore® Cellular Shades: 3/8" Double Cell Traditions
  • Top Down/Bottom Up Lift
  • 22.25"W x 41.25"H
  • Taupe 4007
  • Mount - Inside Mount
  • (This item is for Bathroom ensuite)
  • $180.66
    Subtotal:$180.66
    Savings:$-83.86
    Shipping:$0.00
    Tax:$12.58
    Processing Fee:$5.99
    Total:$115.37
I am very pleased with it and it looks good and works exactly like I wanted it too.  If you are like me very skeptical in ordering blinds online, I would recommend these guys.

I am going to get something very similar in our family room next, when I save up some money.

You can by the way get them cordless as well, but that is extra and for this purpose the cords weren't a problem.

    Bit of a catch up..........

    Molly:

Well she likes her new food.  I have her down to 1/2 steroid pill per day, she's chewing her paws, but nothing too drastic.  I am picking up some of this Holistic Blend Organic Bee Pollen now this is supposed to help with the airborne allergens, who knows, it's worth a shot.  I need to get it into her system six weeks before the grasses and trees start growing again, so this will be the right time to start this.  At this point I am willing to try most things.

I ended up donating all her biscuits (had brewers yeast in them), all her old food; fish and sweet potato flavour and her shampoo, it had oatmeal in it, to the local animal shelter.  I also gave the vet her Omega 3 supplement, as that is fish based.........

Finally her back leg seems to be fine, she's a bit stiff going up the stairs otherwise she is fine.

As of Friday I can see patches of grass on The Acreage, finally.  The sun shone all day on Friday, so melted a lot of snow.  Which in turn let me see where all the dog poop was.  Considering Molly is a small dog, she poops a lot!!  I also dug out the end of the driveway where the snow had blown over.  It must have been knee high again in a couple of places.  Right beside the road though it's a mud bath, so that will be the next thing I will be complaining about, all the mud.

I finished the staining on Thursday and as I predicted I had the headache from hell on Friday and still have it.  That stain kills me, but its still much too cold to have the windows and doors open.  However on a more positive note, with the wind chill we are now only in the minus 8oC to 10oC, which is balmy hot!!

Now with having all this sun on Friday, those new blinds of ours came in handy.  Oh and that isn't a dead dog, that is Molly sound asleep on her ottoman!!  She was snoring again, I think that dog needs her adenoids out!!

An exciting photo of the close up of the blinds!!  If you enlarge the photo you can still see the snow.
The closet situation is on a go slow.  Dh is working six days a week at the moment, and like with any job we start in this house we have ran into problems.  This time its the electrical.  One of the plugs/sockets was to move.  When dh had a look in it, the guy had wired it wrong, and to cut a long story short that is only of interest if you are electrically minded, which I'm not, dh had to rewire it and pull new wires in, or something like that, and that involved taking up part of the attic floor.  I am actually writing this as it saves me telling my dad when I talk to him next.  Then he has to move the telephone jack again not a five minute job, and on and on it goes..........

I have to say it a bloody miracle that neither me nor dh have been shocked with these plugs in this house, dh is rewiring as and when he gets the time.  He's putting in a new electrical panel this summer, so he says.  As I have said before I have little to no interest in all of this, as I am of the opinion why do something yourself when you have someone else (dh) who can do things a heck of a lot faster and better than I can; that groaning and whining is my dad........I am so going to get a lecture next time he talks to me.....LOL

I have added more links to blogs on the section above my header photo.  If your's is not there please let me know, as due to me being nearly a year older, I have a tendency to forget things!!

We are having a day out from The Acreage on Saturday, as I got two free tickets for the National Home Show in Toronto  I was hoping to see if Stihl or Husqvarna were there as I need an industrial strength brushcutter this spring, in the hopes I don't burn out the motor this year!!!

Well that's my exciting news for today.  I will try and remember to take lots of photos at the Home Show.

Did you remember to put your money in your Daily Savings Pot today?

    Today's Money Saving Tip:

Ask your real estate agent for tickets to local events, especially if the company she works for is sponsoring the event!!  Remax is sponsoring the Home Show, and our real estate agent works for Remax!!

Now I can't for the life of me remember which gallery this was in but I thought it was interesting: I did not know that it takes plastic...
