Absolutely drained................

On Tuesday I had a hair appointment for a trim.  Fair enough.  I have a love/hate relationship with hairdressers and I hate paying a lot for a simple haircut.  However, I try to go on a Tuesday at this place when it's "only" $20 plus tax for a haircut and I leave a $5 tip, so it comes in at under $28.  Also I have now "trained" the hairdresser in the way I want my hair cut....LOL  Still, I always find the whole thing a little stressful.

After that hubby and I went for a coffee.  We then went to Home Depot to spend just under $1,000 on a new dryer.  Went with another LG one.  Getting free delivery and more importantly they are taking the old one away for us.  Hubby will strip out the electronics from the old one, as they will fit the new one, if need be.  It won't be here until next Tuesday, but nothing we can do about that.

Then we went to CAA to get some travel insurance for an upcoming trip.  That is where the s*it hit the fan as they say!!!  We got a woman who knew best and wouldn't listen.  Suffice to say by the time we left there we felt as though we had run a marathon.

We had decided before going to CAA that once we had sorted out the insurance we would go to Panera Bread for lunch as we have a gift card.  We walked into the store and just looked at the menu and neither of us could decide what to order, so walked out and went home for lunch.

We sat down in our chairs and we both said at the same time, we felt so drained with it all, despite not doing anything much all morning.

I have never felt so tired/old/drained in all my life.  How one person could make both of us feel so drained is mind boggling.

Hubby then had to call CAA as he has to talk to the underwriters for his travel insurance.  Good news his was "only" around $340 for 8 days, whereas mine went up $30 to nearly $80 for the 8 days.

The rest of the day was spent sitting in our chairs watching soccer on tv and staring into space..............

Have you ever left a place and felt totally drained and unable to make a simple decision like what you want for lunch?????

Take your pick...............

I was in Home Depot the other week with hubby, so I wandered around the Christmas section, while he was doing his stuff, and I stumbled upon these:

Yep, those are mini Home Depot buckets/pails for your Christmas tree.  They're ornaments???  As I said to the girl at the check out, what a waste of 98 cents...LOL  Mind you some enterprising person could fancy them up I guess?  Me personally I am saving my 98 cents!!

Then I got an email from the Stanley site letting me know about the upcoming release and I saw these:

I am sorry about the quality of the photo, you can see a clearer version on the site here.  Again they are Christmas tree ornaments and are $70 CDN for the set of four.  In this case I love the colour of them, but who would decorate their Christmas tree with water tumbler's?  Also I would never pay that for something so useless!!  I will say I love the colour ways of this Christmas release with LoveShackFancy, despite not knowing who they are..LOL.  You can see the collection here.

Just looked up LoveShackFancy, and I can safely say I won't be shopping there any time soon for myself!!

I wasn't impressed........

in fact honestly I was a little scared when I saw these in Home Depot the other day.....

That scarecrow is 15 feet tall.........

Those dogs eyes were creepy
All those things moved........

That scarecrow is $498, which is crazy

I know some people are into Halloween, but some of those things will terrify small children, oh and me!!

Now the following photos are more me, when it comes to Halloween. Saw these in Homesense:

However, I think I will just stick with my one plug in plastic pumpkin!!

Chelsea Flower Show

We have been watching the Chelsea Flower Show on Brit Box.  One of the things I thoroughly enjoyed was a vendor from Denmark with his willow you can visit the site here.

Imagine my surprise while at Home Depot, there were some similar ones.  I had to pick one up.

I potted it up in a tub.

I will keep it in the pot over winter in the garage for this year.  I am thinking that as they survive in Denmark they should be okay here in our 5b zone.

Container Garden

I purchased this modular container garden at Home Depot.  It was on clearance for $79.  I then picked up some plants in the clearance section of Home Depot, along with some herbs and soil to plant them up.

I am too late to plant more veggies, so figured flowers and herbs would do for this year.
I put petunia's in one section.
Basil, chives and parsley for the middle section.
The third was filled with two dahlia plants.
There were a couple of dahlia flowers out.
All in all very happy with how it all turned out.

Good Morning

I did a double take when I first looked out of the window this morning, I honestly thought we had, had snow.  It was only a hard frost but all the rooftops were white, but even the frost on the park was a lot.  The clouds in the sky were also interesting this morning as well.  It was -3 oC when I took this photo, and will get up to 8 oC as a high today.  A lot different from the 30 oC temperatures we were experiencing a week or two ago!!

I only have some touch ups to do in the bathroom.  However hubby has some more work to do on the shower.  The shower has to have all the silicone redone; which was a job we were not expecting to do.  As he is still working full time, this will take him the rest of the week to get done.

Luckily we have another full bathroom in our basement, so can shower down there.  Popping out to Home Depot this morning to pick up this:

The shower has to be clean of soap scum so the silicone will stick.  This one is a bit pricy at over $14 but we are hoping it will work.

Another busy day again for me, but at least the painting is all done.  I will share photos when I have everything put back together.

Have a super day and let me know what you are up to today, I love reading all your comments.

It's the little things..........

At our last house our sofa was placed in the middle of the living room, and so my dh installed receptacles in the floor.  We have a similar layout in this house with the sofa, so again dh installed receptacles in the floor.

This may seem like a minor thing, but it makes such a difference, as now we can have table lamps on our end table's either side of the sofa.  There are two sockets in each receptacle and dh chose a brass finish but they do come in different finishes.

So the next plan of action was to find a couple of lamps for the end tables.  I didn't want to spend a small fortune, but do have to say I have expensive tastes and all the ones I liked we $200+ each.  Then there were many I liked but the shade wasn't right, or the base wasn't right, so after exhausting many options I finally found what I liked at Home Depot of all places.

This lamp comes in separate pieces, so you buy the base and the shade separately.

The shade has a quilted look to me, or even fish scales.  It's an off white colour, but more white than ivory which is what a wanted and best of all it was only $25, you can see it here.
The base is a metal one and I like how it isn't solid so doesn't look to heavy and clunky and  it was only $40, and you can see that here.
They are a decent height and I am so pleased with them and they didn't break the bank.
We have bought a new sofa and our daughter took the old one on the weekend, and the new one doesn't come until Thursday so I will show it too you then. The living room is looking a bit strange without the sofa....

The 1980's called and they want their paint colour back...LOL

Busy painting the back room downstairs a delightful Seafoam Green colour.
Now before you ask, no I didn't go out of my way to pick this colour, I thought I would try and save some money by picking up a mistint colour and when I saw this colour it was darker.  So mixed in a can of white and out popped Seafoam Green...........am I lucky or what!

The saving grace in all of this is that the room has no windows and it is closed off with a door.  So unless you want to go to this particular room, or the cold cellar, you don't see it.

I think when I get the whole of the room finished it will look fine.  I am painting all the trim and doors white and we are putting down a vinyl plank floor that looks like wood (I think).

At the end of the day we are using this room for mainly storage, and possibly a sewing room.  Now should I paint the rest of the basement peach.............okay, okay I am joking, it will be builder's beige, except on my paint chart it's called Feather Stone.

I do have a recommendation for primer/undercoat for the folk in Canada and the States.  I used Behr Premium Plus Primer.  I got it from Home Depot and was very happy with it.  You are buying it for it's sealing powers more than how white it goes on the walls.  There is not a lot of pigment in the primer, so it goes on very patchy.  However I found because it seals the walls well, it does not suck in as much paint when you come to put your top coats of paint on.

I will show finished photos of the rooms when done.

New Light Fixture.....

Picked up a new light fixture for the breakfast nook on Saturday and dh hung it on Sunday.  I wanted a fan in there as it gets rather warm in that area, despite being open plan.  We got this fan at Home Depot and it is a LED light, so energy efficient.  Mind you I bought it for the fan rather than the light!!  The chrome matches the fixture in the kitchen itself, which I like and have no plans to remove.

As it was from Home Depot it didn't cost us the kids inheritance to buy!!  I also wanted one with a remote control so there are no strings hanging down.  I like the clean look.

I bought some herb plants on Saturday and wanted something to put them in.  I found this Victoria and Albert herb planter at HomeSense.  It features a William Morris print.  I have five herb plants to plant though and I could only find one of these.  Too pretty though to pass up.

Our day out........

We went to the National Home Show in Toronto on Saturday.  We had VIP tickets so for once we went through the "Dream Home"  It was very, very modern, and not my cup of tea at all.  However there were a few things that we liked.

The garage was really neat and I said to dh he should get the tire rack made up to store my winter tires on there. Yes that was some sort of fancy dancy tv in the garage!

(as always click on the photo's for more detail)

This is a doggy shower in the mud room,  It took me a couple of seconds to click what it was.  I suppose it's a handy thing if you have a dog, or even kids with muddy boots.

I love this sink, it was one of a pair in the master bedroom, and I could see those fitting in our house.  Wasn't sure what exactly you would clean them with, I suppose something that is non abrasive?

I have to say we were disappointed this year with what was exactly on show.  We have also clicked that before we make enquiries about anything we have to make sure they are willing to service our area where we live.  It takes us a good hour outside of rush hour to get to downtown Toronto, probably an hour and a half in rush hour.  So a lot of people won't even consider coming out to our area.

We want to try and get the basement windows replaced, but I had wanted to get a couple of quotes this time.  So I think we'll use the local guys again.

This is a photo of the Direct Energy Centre where the show was held.  That is the CN Tower in the back ground.

Next door to the Direct Engery Centre, is BMO Field where Toronto FC (Football/Soccer) play.  Notice the big wind tower in the background.

Food is so expensive at these shows that we decided to have a late lunch and we had left the show by 1:30pm.  So we headed into Brampton, and had fish and chips at the Heritage Restaurant.  They have the best fish and chips around our area.  They even had knitted tea cosies for their tea pots ever so cute, the same as this one.  They have a lunch time special of haddock and chips for $5.95 and you get a plate full.  We shared a dish of mushy peas, so guess we'll be "gassy" tonight...LOL

We also lucked out today, as Home Depot were having a 20% sale on all their interior doors, so we picked up the four closet doors.  They should have been $89 each, we paid $71.20 each, so the savings nearly paid for one door.  We could have done without getting these at this moment, but couldn't turn down that savings.

So tonight I am going to go through my bag of goodies I got from the Home Show, and read up on all the things we looked at.  Oh and dream about what we could do if we had the money!!!

Did you remember to put your money in your Daily Savings Pot today?

Today's Money Saving Tip:

If you're going to eat out at restaurants, eat out on a lunch time, as more often than not it's cheaper and if you eat a large meal at lunch time, you probably won't want much to eat later on in the day.

Sorry I didn't get around to visiting your blog today (I am writing this Saturday night)........

Taking a break.......

back in a while.  Nothing wrong...........
