I got the front hall closet decorated and put back together over the weekend. We normally put custom closet organizers in our closets, but don't have the funds for that at the moment, so did a cheaper alternative to tide us over, for well under $10.
This is the closet painted. When the colour first went on, it reminded me of a nasty dirty diaper. It dries a lot darker and the colour grows on you...thank goodness!
Here is the finished closet. It is not only a place to store our coats and shoes, but also where some of my cleaning things go, so it does double duty:
To try and tidy up the things I put on the shelves, we got a five pack of clear plastic tubs and some "chalk board" label's from Michael's.
Not sure if you can see, but my bill came to $9.12 and that included a couple of buttons.
The chalk board labels are great as you can erase the writing as long as you use the chalk or chalk based pens, like I have for my chalk board.
So when you are happy with your writing just pop the label on the box. Try not to tear it like I did!
Those chalk board labels are a new to me thing, that I think I will incorporate in other places in the house. Have you discovered anything new to you for the house recently?
I am so behind in visiting people's blogs at the moment, so please forgive me.

Looks great. I really need to organise all my wardrobes. One day lol
The closet looks great. You have given me an idea for our coat closet!
You are forgiven; at the mmoent, I can barely visit my own blog ! Anyway, I can't believe how cheap those organizing things were; you did very well there ! x
Oh, I love how neat and organized your closet is! Our entry way closet is looking like....well, I won't say here! Coats, boots, blankets, pantry items, vacuum, ironing board, etc. YIKES!

I recently bought a lot of those clear boxes for organizing the craft closet. I love them as you can easily see inside and find what I'm looking for quickly. We are heading out to Sooke BC to visit family and grandkids out there, in a few days so I'll be catching up when I can.
You're a good homekeeper, Gill! It looks great!
A very rich Gill-fix, finally caught up with you. I am in the throes of painting as well - but outsourced it, he came recommended. Fingers crossed. My house is very old so hoping he will treat it well.....
Love the labels.

I learned something new.....chalkboard labels and chalk based pens! Your closet looks great.
Wow! Your closet looks great! Would you like to stop by and organize mine? :-). I've never used the chalkboard labels but now my mind is turning, thinking of where I could use them.
Blessings,
Betsy
Very organized for a very low price. Excellent!
Thanks for the inspiration. I need to clean my coat closet. We only use it for coats and since the temps here are around 96 and over, I don't think I will be needing a coat for a while. I should give it a thorough cleaning and close that sucker up for the summer.
Lovely spacious cupboard. I haven't used blackboard labels, what a good idea! xx
It looks great, the labels are a wonderful idea. I could do with some organisation in my wardrobes.
I like this idea...I cannot think of anything new I have tried in the house.
I think the closet looks great.
That's work well done, Gill.
Nothing to apologize for. I have been missing too.
The closet looks great and I love the price and color!
Looks good, Gill! The blackboard labels are neat and can be used in so many different ways.
Trying to keep a closet neat and organized is always a chore. We also bought some plastic storage bins at the $1 store and they have been useful in the pantry as well. Also, we re-used a coulke of Ikea shoe racks. Your money saving project turned out well, Gill. I had not seen the chalk-based labels before. My solution is to write the name of the container contents on a small piece of paper and tape it on the container. Yours looks a bit more organized.
