Drawing for Art.....

Each year we attend a function called Drawing for Art.  It raises money to hold art classes for children.  Each pair of tickets gets one ticket put into the tombola for the draw.  When your ticket is pulled you get to pick a piece of art that is displayed and donated by local artists.

Here is the write up:

"An annual favorite that puts original artwork into your hands.  Join Station Gallery for another night of anticipation and suspense, competition and delight. Wait for your ticket to be drawn and then select an original work of art from our walls!

Artworks are by regional artists and are valued between $200 and $1,000. Your $225 ticket includes admission for two, sumptuous food and, of course, your brand-new work of art."

To see this year's selection, please click on this link.

I am struggling to pick out a favourite this year.  There are a number of possibilities, but none that I really, really want.  I do find that when you see them in "real life" it makes a big difference.

I like this one because of the poppies, but find the trees very "weak."

This one is pretty but I wish it was a little more vibrant.

This one is a possibility.

Depending on it's actual size I have a place to put this one.

Do you have a favourite?

Here are a couple links to what we got in prior years.

in 2012 we got this one.  This is the piece dd got in 2012, it is gorgeous.

in 2014 we got this one and it is stunning in "real life".  It is probably my favourite piece so far.

For some reason I did not post a photo of the ones we got in 2010, 2011 and 2013?

I like Ashton for the vibrant blue sky and Blair, the big red poppy. This sounds like a great event.

Hope you had a lovely Easter Gill!

I clicked on the link - wow there are some really nice pieces to be won.

Good luck at the event and let us know which artwork you get to take home with you.

What a great idea! I love vibrant colours, so the poppies are my choice.

I found five that would be OK..but what if they'd gone by the time my ticket was drawn? I'd have to give the others away.

if we are voting, I like the third one but then, I am partial to blue. All of them are lovely and I am sure you would enjoy any of them.

Just started looking at the art...so far this one is my favorite:

And I love the one of the single poppy, and the shipwreck....oh, and there is another of trees...and one of sunflowers....and a flower garden. Just too many to name. Plus I do like the first one you mentioned.

Oh, how a person would ever choose is more than I know. There are some 'odd' ones...some of them I love and others I don't care for at all.

Oh, and have to say I love this one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/121354455@N05/16370267904/in/album-72157651270618888/

I recall you writing about this event each year. It's a splendid idea!

I am saddened to hear that you don't want the painting of the Queen Mum. lolz

I'd probably go with more of the abstract ones and not the landscapey/literal ones.....or the giant sheep head. ;-)

I have different tastes - I like the one with the 3 different images of feet!

Goodness! What wonderful art and such a great idea. Thank you for sending me to your post Gill. I love at least four of the paintings. The queen, the boat on land, the head of that sheep, and the snowy farm landscape. I also love the soapstone carving. (I have a small collection) Oh, I wonder which one you'll get! If this was closer, I'd go! :D
