I was visiting with my step-mum yesterday and we got to talking about Christmas. We are both at a point, where if we need something, we go out and buy it. Therefore neither of us really need anything......well other than bucketfuls of money!!!
So we decided that me and dh, and my step-mum and dad are going to give one another just a token gift, basically a joint gift. The problem is what to give as a token gift? We couldn't think of anything. I was thinking no more than $50 and it has to be a joint gift. I told my step-mum I would post it on my blog, as you would all come up with great ideas, and as she reads my blog as well, this would sort out our problem.
I had a day out from the Acreage, and had a lovely time, visiting with my step-mum and I also got to have a look around Homesense and picked up a couple of things. They live around an hour south of us, and it was so much warmer down there than up here. People were wearing shorts and no socks, whereas I had my jeans on, with socks!!
I witnessed a close call for a guy, how he didn't end up dead in his car is beyond me. I bet he had to change his pants when he got to his destination. He ran a red light and just missed a transport truck!!
Otherwise Tuesday was a pretty uneventful day around here.

Joint gift for the in-laws...hmmm?
How about a photo of your family...could be formal or fun depending on your taste.
How about some of your wonderful recipes bound in a book, would definitely be something hubby and I would love to receive.
How about Molly (oops biting my tongue)...we don't want to give away Molly.
How about a gift card? Hate to suggest that one...but my mil loves them. You might have gotten some from the SDM/esso deal??
Three ideas came to mind immediately. What about a nice bottle of wine -- if you're wine drinkers, that is.
Or what about making a donation in their name to the charity of their choice? Finally, what about something handmade like a really special bookmark for each of them?

How about dinner and/or a movie gift cards.
I was going to say a gift card as well, maybe to a spa if that's their thing, they could go and get a massage together! Otherwise you go for a card from their favorite restaurant or stores. Gifts cards are some of my favorite gifts because then I can save them for when I need them and get exactly what I want!
If you like watching films/hard-to-find-TV, what about a subscription to Netflix?
you could buy tickets for a show (as in live, not movies) and go for dinner together, before or after.

How about something from an antique shop? That way you are giving something with a bit of history attached as well, and can be a bit quirky or unusual

i used to have ferrets and typed "ferret gifts" into google and found some bottles of wine called ferret wine, all boxed and gorgeous, my other half thought it a great gift.

Our kids give us gift cards to some of our favorite places to eat. That's always nice. I also like gift baskets of food, that I would like to taste but don't really want to buy. And a donation to some worth while organization in their name is always nice. Anymore what I do for a funeral, I send a donation to Hospice rather then send flowers, and tell Hospice to let the family know a donation was made in their loved ones name.
I was going to suggest a gift card too, that is what I like to gte and then I can shop the sales after Christmas. do they both like magazines? how about a magazine subscription to Canadaina or National Geograhiic?
I agree that tickets to a Live show is a great idea. Something that you can all do together and at a different date so it's like celebrating twice.
My mum and I usually do this and it's a wonderful gift we share.
This year we are going to go and see Little House on the Prairie The Musical.

At first I thought our gift for my father-in-law and his new wife is to give them couple of photo albums full of last Christmas' holiday photos in one and our son's wedding photos in another. Alternatively I have been thinking of going online and getting a couple of books put together with the same photos.
p.s. One year for a Christmas gift I gave my sister a photo album with all our old family photos going back to our grandparents time.
