Another beautiful day weather wise........

Monday was a super day.  It was lovely and warm, in fact maybe a little too warm!!!  I still have many tomatoes on my bushes and with this glorious weather they are ripening quite fast.  We have had a couple of ground frosts but they are in a sheltered area.  There are also peppers behind the tomatoes.

The fall foliage is at its best at the moment.  These trees are on the property behind us, it's just a picture at the moment.

Not sure if I have mentioned this before but I am waiting to see a surgeon at the moment to have both my hands operated on.  Both carpel tunnels need doing.  I already had the right hand done back in 2002.  At the time the surgeon mentioned I would need my left hand done at some point, so I have done well to last another 9 years.  However my right hand is bad as well.  I obviously won't have both done at once, but I will get them done within a few months of one another.

Why I mention this; well on Saturday I did some spray painting using aerosol spray cans for a project that needed doing.  Over two days later I still have no feeling in one of my finger tips, the one I used to hold down the spray nozzle.  The whole project took me half an hour tops.  So I am glad I am having my hands seen too.  Must mention this issue when I see the surgeon.

Question and a Book Review

First my question:

The bridal shower photos were sent to me via a Picasa Album.  I right clicked on each photo and saved them to a folder on my main computer, I also saved them to photo bucket, as that is how I get photos on my blog......I can't/don't do it any other way.

When I went to post the photo on my blog, they were teeny tiny and enlarging them only made them blurry.  Any suggestions?  I don't want to just post a link to the album, as there are a number of them that are of no interest to anyone, so I just want to post ones that will interest everyone.

"Deadly Pursuit," by Irene Hannon

Social worker Alison Taylor has a passion for protecting children. But now it seems she needs protecting. When her tormentor's attentions take a violent turn, she calls in reinforcements--her police-detective brother, Cole, and his new partner, ex-Navy SEAL Mitch Morgan. As her relentless stalker turns up the heat and the danger intensifies, Mitch takes a personal interest in the case. Because protecting Alison has become more than a job; his future depends on keeping her safe.

This is the second book in the Guardian's of Justice series by Irene, the first one being this book which I reviewed here  I really like how this author puts so much detail into her book and you can easily "get into" the storyline right away.  The main characters were all believable and you understood the passion they had for their work.  I just wish the Bert bit wasn't was it was.  Can't say much more on that as it will spoil it for those who want to read it.

Stars out of 5: a solid 4.5  really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one in the series, as I am guessing there should be one more to the series, as there are three siblings?  Do look out for this book, even if crime books are not your "thing."  They are well worth reading.

Thanksgiving Dinner.........

A traditional Thanksgiving dinner is Turkey with all the trimmings and pumpkin pie for dessert.  However due to being crazy busy and the temperature being so warm that our a/c came on (I had forgotten to turn it off for the season) cooking a turkey and all the trimmings didn't seem like my idea of fun.  So this is what we had instead:

Yep, BBQ which consisted of burgers, roasted potatoes, Cesar salad, coleslaw and bean salad.  Dessert was homemade peach pie with ice cream.  A traditional Thanksgiving meal, no but it was tasty.  However I forgot to buy more Ketchup, so that is why it is upside down so everyone could squeeze the last bit out of the bottle, and you know where the kids were sitting by the can's of coke!!!

How ever we were thankful, as at least we could afford to have a nice dinner shared with our family.  A lot of people in the world wouldn't be able to do that.

Enjoy your Sunday.

By the way I am having problems again posting comments on some blogs, Karine you're one of them and Cindy you're another...........it is getting past being annoying now.......my google account shows up I post my comment and then nothing, try again, nothing, try using anonymous and nothing.......no idea what to do?

Thanksgiving weekend and what I have been up too this week.....

It's Thanksgiving weekend in Canada this weekend and the weather forecast is glorious.  It's been a busy week and will be a busy weekend, as I want to take advantage of this lovely weather.  I am guessing most Canadians will be out and about making the most of the good weather, as we all know it will not last!!

Due to it being so nice, we still don't have our heating on and the way the forecast is playing out, I don't expect to turn it on this coming week either.  We have had the fire on a couple of times to take the chill off when the sun goes down, which is a nice way to ease me into cleaning out the fireplace again.

My main job this week has been decorating and I have got a lot done.  What a difference it has made to the hall, stairs and landing painting the walls.  I didn't realize how dirty those walls were.  I have painted the walls the same colour as the attic, a cream colour with a hint of brown/pink.  It warms everything up and makes it look fresh.  Due to the weather being so nice I also got the front and mud room doors painted inside and out.

I also got the walls painted in the laundry room and dh is hoping to get the trim installed this weekend, so I can paint that.  He has started on the electrics but still has a ways to go.  He is full of cold so that is slowing him down.

In between hands I have made a start on cutting the grass.  The goal is to get that all cut this weekend and do some trimming of the edges as well.  The leaves are starting to fall so I mulch them as well.

Managed to get Molly bathed this week, as her skin is looking sore again.  Also clipped her nails and she actually sat still this time.  I have an appointment at the vets for Thursday to have her yearly check up and get a couple of jabs.

We voted on Thursday night.  Still can't understand why we have to have two sets of Governments in Canada?  Terrible turn out though, less than 50% of the people in Ontario voted.

I haven't gotten around to everyone's blogs, as by the time I have washed up after supper, I have been pooped.  I have been doing a bit of reading on a night as it relaxes me, and to be honest there is nothing worth while watching on tv.  Even Coronation Street is annoying now that Tracey is back; she drives me crazy!!!

Finally another beautiful sunset:

I forgot to say, I do have some photos of the bridal shower, just haven't had time to go through them........

Home of the week and a book review.........

This week's home of the week is a stunner.  I could never afford it in a million years, but I love it.  There are a couple of negatives though about it.  That butler sink in the kitchen is a no, no.  I have a similar thing going on in our kitchen and the water goes cold very fast in it, plus with it being white it marks like crazy.  Same with the cast iron bath in the master ensuite.  By the time you fill that bath tub and get in the water will be luke warm.  Also do you know how long it will take to lay all those ruddy fires in a morning and clean out all the ashes?  Ages, and ages; also how many bush cords of wood would you have to order in, each year?

Oh, wait, you would have hired help to do all that wouldn't you!!!  One thing for sure, me and dh wouldn't need to see one another that often in a house that size........but it would be nice to own though.......

"The Measure of Katie Calloway," by Serena Miller

Her heart seeks sanctuary in the deep woods. But will trouble find her even here?
The Civil War has ended, but in Katie Calloway's Georgia home, conflict still rages. To protect herself and her young brother from her violent and unstable husband, she flees north, finding anonymity and sanctuary as the cook in a north woods lumber camp. The camp owner, Robert Foster, wonders if the lovely woman he's hired has the grit to survive the never-ending work and harsh conditions of a remote pine forest in winter. Katie wonders if she can keep her past a secret from a man she is slowly growing to love.

With grace and skill, Serena Miller brings to life a bygone era. From the ethereal, snowy forest and the rowdy shanty boys to the warm cookstove and mouth-watering apple pie, every detail is perfectly rendered, transporting you to a time of danger and romance.

I loved this book.  The characters were easy to relate too.  Katie was a super lead character and you just wanted her to succeed in all she did.  I also learned a lot about the lumber camps in Northern Michigan.

The way the author describes everything in the book, makes it all seem real.  She certainly has a talent for drawing you into each scene, making it feel as though you are actually there with the other characters of the book.  Enjoyed the character "Jigger," and knew deep down he had a heart of gold.

Stars out of 5: 5 great book, couldn't put it down.  Loved the cover of the book, Katie looks how I imagined she would.

Book Review

"A Necessary Deception," by Laurie Alice Eakes

When young widow Lydia Gale helps a French prisoner obtain parole, she never dreams she will see him again. But just as the London Season gets under way, the man presents himself in her parlor. While she should be focused on getting her headstrong younger sister prepared for her entree into Society.

Discover a world of elegance and intrigue, balls and masquerades as Laurie Alice Eakes whisks you into the drawing rooms of London Society on this exciting quest to let the past stay in the past--and let love guide the future.

This was an okay book where the eldest sister gets involved in blackmail, spying and espionage.  Set in the early 1800's in Britain, I enjoyed the history of the book, but it was a bit long winded for me.  It seemed to go on and on for no particular reason.
Stars out of 5: 3 I didn't really enjoy it due to it being too long winded for me.  If there was nothing else I fancied on the book shelves I would read this book, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
