Christmas Lights

As we are now more or less in the middle of February I feel it's safe to say Christmas 2023 is over and done with, right?

I know some people keep their Christmas lights hung around the outside of the house, year round.  Fair enough, they're not the easiest things to hang up.

BUT, what are your thoughts on having them still lit up every night?  Also having multiple animals/decorations lit up on your lawn?

I could understand it if we were under a foot or six of snow, but other than the odd patch we have no snow.  I remember during Covid folk down the east coast had Christmas lights hung and lit to cheer folk up.  Maybe it makes people happy?

Personally I think it's odd.  It's not doing me any harm, but I am curious as to why people do it?  We turn ours off on January 1st.  We do take them down also each year, as we are able too.  We live in a bungalow, so it's easier for us.  Our son gets a company in to put his up and take them down each year.  People make money doing that, who knew?

I do have two big displays of greens out front from Christmas.  I removed the Christmas decorations and lights from them. So they look like big pots with greenery in them, very neutral.

What are your thoughts?

Tree Lighting Ceremony

We were invited to a tree lighting/wine and cheese last night.  It all started out as a bit of a joke, when I turned on my Christmas outside lights before December 1st.  When I mentioned to the neighbours why they didn't have their outside lights on; they said they didn't turn them on until December 1st. So I suggested they should have an official Christmas tree lighting ceremony for their outside Christmas lights.

The phone rang on Monday evening inviting dh and I to the ceremony.  As two neighbours were having the ceremony (they live side by side) I figured we had better not go empty handed.  So after I got the winter tires put on the car I popped to the store to pick them up a Poinsettia each.
Popped into the dollar store and picked up a gift bag each.....they cost $1.25 by the way not $1, some candy canes and the little Santa ornament.
It's not a lot but it says we are thinking of them.

Today's Christmas song I thought should be about Christmas lights.  Although this is really neat to look at I would absolutely hate to live next door to this!

Our son and his moustache.....

As I mentioned in an earlier post, ds is growing a moustache in the month of November to raise funds for Prostate Cancer.  So last Saturday was the first time I had seen him since he started this.  I was pleased to see he had a full moustache, bit confused though, as he has brown hair and his moustache is red/ginger in colour?

I always assumed if you grew a moustache it was the same colour as the hair on your head, but I guess not?  His hair colour comes from his dad's side of the family, but his moustache colour comes from my dad's side of the family.  So there you go another new thing I have learned.

I also am not a fan of facial hair on a man.  Dh is clean shaven and I hope after this month, ds will go back to being clean shaven.

On Monday Molly needed to be let out at 4:14 AM, and for some reason I couldn't get back to sleep, so by 5:30 am I gave up and got up.  I don't do well when I get up at that time of the morning.  Anyhow, I got a jump on all the jobs I had planned for Monday, and got everything I wanted done, done.

My car is now able to be parked in the garage now for the winter since I cleaned it out AGAIN!!!  I put up the Christmas lights around our back deck.  When we were coming home the other night we were amazed at how many people have their Christmas lights up outside and turned on.  I had thought about putting some lights up outside the front of the house this year, as dh has put in an outside plug out front.  It was nippy cold though on Monday so I was frozen by the time I had done the lights on the back.

It was nice enough on Monday to get the laundry dry outside.  Have to say I think the days are numbered for that happening, as it does feel like November now here.

Taking a break.......

back in a while.  Nothing wrong...........
