Here we go again...........

If you have followed my blog you know how I am "allergic" to exercise.  Every time I decide I should exercise something happens.  It doesn't help I hate getting sweaty.  However I do need to lose weight and the older I get the harder it is to lose that weight.  So I have decided to start walking again; but this time takes things slow.

We live at the bottom of a hill.  There are three roads going up this hill, a road at the bottom and a road at the top.  So I have decided to walk along the bottom road, up road one, along the top road, down road three, along the bottom road, then up and down road two.  Sounds easy enough right?

So I did this route on Thursday morning, took me 21 minutes to do it.  Going up the hill, thought I would die, recovered going down the hill, thought I'd die again going back up the hill, but recovered enough going back down to think I would live.  As soon as I can manage this without thinking I am going to collapse on the side of the road, I will increase the ups and downs.

It's not much but it's a start.  Plus if I go early enough (by 6am) not many people are up and can see me!!   I was thinking of also doing it on a night around 8pm when it gets a bit cooler as well.  We'll see, I don't want to commit too, to much to start with.

This about says it all:

I need to get back to walking. But it's so wet lately and the cold is making my pain go up. So I'm waiting for spring to get here. I hope you see results soon. Well done

Hahaha! We must be long lost sisters... I intend to start a routine next week involving some swimming. Let's compare notes and cheer each other so that we both keep up the good routine.

Hi Gill, you have the best idea for starting exercising. Slow and easy. It will get easier. I believe you and I are the same age so I understand about aging and losing weight. I have been walking daily for 23 years. I can't imagine a day without walking. Keep at it, it will get better.

I have started walking too, and I also live in a hilly area. I am now up to doing 2 miles at least once in the morning and depending on what I am doing in the evening I try and do the same. I went on the google pedi map, mapped out my course, put in my weight and it tell you how many miles/KM's your route takes you and also how many calories you have burned. Here comes way too much information..........walking helps me to keep regular. lol

Keep it up and good luck.

I try to take a shortish walk twice a day. First in the morning and then again after supper. Those uphill climbs will get you every time.

God bless.

Walking is the best exercise and you will be fine. I commend you for the up-hill part --I would probably look at it and quit!

Have a water bottle with you, especially at this time of year.

The cardiologist told me to get a Fitbit to be able to keep track of my walking. I was up to 10,000 steps a day, a little over 4.5 miles and I had a setback. Now he wants me to start at 5000 and gradually go up. I have gained so much weight in the past year since getting my pacemaker that I am so frustrated. Congratulations to you in doing this and even tackling hills.
Blessings,
Betsy

Be careful. I did like you did for years. Mastered the hill down and up. Ran behind all 6 Grandchildren when I was young.

Then my hip started to hurt. My right hip. Had x-rays and now I have been told
I am walking on bone on bone and then the Specialist said. I advise you to use a walker daily. I said why? Wheres my pride now. Hmmmm. What an embarrassment. I was using a cane I thought that was bad.

As it is your knees Carol Ann are causing you pain in the hip. You are completely off balance and at the end of your bottom the tail bone. It looks pretty bad.

You can walk very slow but no hills. You are now a candidate to break a bone in hip. I cannot book you for a year for two knee operations. I am completely booked up. I will now give you two shots in your knees as you need some quality of life no pain for now but it wont be on going all the time. Just till your operations. I have no pain now and know pain as stiffness. He gave me cortisone. I used to tackle those hills and up more distance for me in the week. Like your saying. Now my legs have gone bowed. Please, please take care and do not over do it. My friend who went with me. She is suffering so bad and she is your age. She has to go to a Specialist Monday. She is total exhausted and pain is unbearable. I guess I wanted to be fit and never be like this as I thought the more one moves the better you become. In my case NO. I have to have two knee replacements unless I get a total miracle. If you want to delete my comment please do. I will not be offended.
