Ratty, baggy underwear............

you know the type the ones you are most comfortable in.  The pair's that you wear when you know you are not leaving the house, as you remember what your Mother or Nana used to say:

"Always make sure you wear clean underwear when you go out, as you may be run over by a bus and end up at the hospital, and you don't want to nurses or doctors to see you wearing your old underwear."

Well I had a clean out of my underwear drawer and out they have all gone.  Now I must admit I have about as a much chance of being hit by a bus as winning the lottery, as there is no public bus service where we live, and the only buses I see are the school buses or buses taking people to the ski hills.  All which I see from the safety of my house!!!  However I still make sure I don't wear my old underwear when I leave the house, just in case!!

So now I need to pick up some new underwear.  Luckily I am at a stage in my life where comfort takes precedence over looks.  Gone are the days when I followed fashion and thank goodness for that, as it always baffles my mind how people can wear the equivalent of a postage stamp strung together with material no thicker than dental floss, aka a thong.............

Then there is "VPL," which is visible pantie line......can't say I am worried about that either as who in their right mind will be looking at my butt.  Now granted the larger butt is in fashion; I'm thinking Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian here, but believe I am neither!!!  No, I will stick with my granny panties, that cover everything and are a heck of a lot more comfortable................

I have just realized I will no doubt have every pervert on the internet popping by with that blog title....LOL  Boy they are going to be very disappointed!!

When I was in the US on hols I always used to go to a show called Lane Bryant ( plus size) and buy tons of their fab underware- both knickere and bras. Overweight people are penalised in the UK for daring to be a tad bulky and as such are offered a foul selection of undies.
Sadly (not really :)I have lost so much weight that I am no longer able to fit their stuff- it's too big. So next time I will be off to Victoria's secret. Fab XX

Heehee you do bring back memories. I recall my Mom telling me always to wear clean underwear - yes, that same old bus story. Also there's the one about making sure your feet are clean when you're pregnant!!!

I'm chuckling here, too funny!! We have icicles too although so does everyone here. Watch you don't get ice build up, it can do major damage. Hope you have a wonderful day. Hugs

Oh, mercy! I went through my dresser drawers not too long ago. Why had I kept some of that stuff for so long?!

I hope you have fun shopping for some new undies, Gill!

It's universal! My grandmother had the same script, word for word!!!!! Well, at least if you pass out at the wedding and the wind gets your skirt, you're safe! Love it! ~Liz

My mother always said that, too. I don't think I ever said it to my kids. It seemed too much like tempting fate, I think. Or maybe it was one of those generational things.

I love buying new underwear...better than a new hat when you're down. Which was another one of my mother's pet sayings.

I recently cleaned out my underware drawer too. Comfort over fashion for me.
I was in a car accident several years ago and the seat belt did what it was suppose to do, but it also tugged on my bladder -- so even if you leave the house in clean underware, they don't stay that way. lol

Oh I agree but I also differ. I have two sets, you see 0h! those for comfort and those to parade in. I'll leave it at that, shall I?
By the way, you made me giggle. Then I felt naughty, like, shall I post a link on Kim Kardashian's Blog, linking back to yours? Maybe, maybe not!
Be sure and pop over to my Blog today. It's all about Fairytale Weddings.
Happy Sunday.

Gill,
Funny post, but yes I have also heard this related story about wearing old underwear.
I have lots of new undies and socks.
Christmas time is always wonderful for the restocking of these items. Hubby does a great job on the socks the undies or dental floss items you mentioned he leaves to me.

LOL So glad you're linking your posts on facebook :)

A few years back I visited my mom for a couple weeks. One day she's folding my laundry with me and scolding me for the horrible shape my unders were in. I hadn't thought much of it before then. Actually, I'd thought along the lines of "looks like heck, but I can get a few more months out of them." LOL When I got back home I did throw all those ratty ones out and bought all new. Hmmmm....yep, I'm still on THOSE ones. ROFL!!!
