Mammogram........

It's been four years since I had my last one.  So when I went for one this week, I got a lecture.  I couldn't help but roll my eyes, I deserved a gold star for turning up.  I am very, very fortunate that cancer does not run in our family.  However, yes it's important to still get tested.

It was a new lady (too me) that did it this time and I swear she was trying to make me twist and move my body in ways even I knew wasn't possible!!!

Suffice to say, I survived, and lived to tell the tale.

Oh and I had the dreaded PAP Smear earlier in the year when I went to see the nurse for something else, and got "coerced" into having a PAP Smear.  So all in all I have done my duty for the foreseeable, just saying!!!

Well done on getting the splat done. My worst one was when I had hurt my back.

Reminds me of the time I went to the doctor about my knee and ended up having a colonscopy 4 days later.
Being adopted I don't have any medical history so he wanted to make sure I got it done.
I have always been on top of getting the routine testing done for that very reason.

I wish they would invest in research to make them more comfortable for women.

I agree that these tests are really important. I'm due for my mammo in October and am not sure if a pap test is done at my age. Seems to me I remember reading that they stop giving them if you're over 70 unless they are suspicious of a problem.

The woman that comes here in the mobile mammogram unit is just lovely. We had a great discussion about what could be causing the problem with the fragile skin under my breasts. I will be heading into my gyno next year for my check up pap smear which is more because I had cervical cancer and they want to make sure it hasn't come back.

God bless.

You don't want to hear this but I was the 48 year old who went for her routine mammogram and they found a small area. Had a lumpectomy and all was clear for 5 years. Had double mastectomy in 2013 and am good right now. No family history, I am the family history. Four years between is asking for trouble.

I had my mammogram late last year. We get a reminder in the mail
This time I got called and asked to come in for more testing.
We have a great breast cancer Centre, that has all women working in it.
They tell you that you will not leave today without knowing exactly what’s what.
Thankfully it turned out to be nothing. But if it had been it would of been found early and probably taken care off without too much fuss
Yes they are very uncomfortable but cancer is way worse than that.

I stopped having mammograms for two reasons. First, I had blood vessels broken. Second, I read that they were not reliable and caused emotional distress when benign lumps were found and more tests followed. 90% of call backs were not cancer. I can examine my own breasts and armpits, palpitating for lumps. I think it is an individual choice whether to have such tests. I will not have a colonoscopy either. I do have fecal screening as required.

One thing I need you to do today.........
