Love tulips, but........

Have no luck at all with bunches of them in the house.  I cannot get them to last a week without them completely drooping.

I got these last Wednesday:

By the Monday they were all droopy.  I hammered all the ends of the stems hoping that would help, but no.  Any tips on how to keep tulips in a vase without them drooping?

Tulips keep growing in the vase so I always cut them short and do that every other day to keep them from drooling. And it seems to be better their leaves do not touch the water. They also are real aqua-holics!

Apparently there is a special vase for tulips and other flowers that tend to droop. Like gladioli. It has a lid with holes in them you place the stems through those holes.
I’ve only ever seen older ones. I haven’t seen any new variations.
I planned to visit the charity shops in hope of getting one.
Otherwise you can use some thing that will do the same job on an existing vase

I saw something recently, stick a pin in the stem at the base of the flower and make a small hole. Apparently, there is air in the stem which makes it droop, the air escapes from the hole. Don't know if it is true or not.
In the past I have put the stem in a plastic drinking straw all the way up to the base of the flower.

If you can find something called a 'frog' that would fit on the top of your vase and then poke the stems through the holes in that it seems to hold them far more upright. You can also use strips of scotch tape to create a grid on the vase opening which will do the same thing if you don't have a frog.

the drinking straw idea is a thought......I too had heard about the pin, but didn't know why........

I've heard that sticking a pin in near the head helps stop the drooping, I have never tried it so can't confirm if it works or not, but worth a try perhaps?

I usually pull off the leaves totally before putting them in water.

God bless.

Remove the stems, change the water daily or close to it, and when you do, trim the bottoms of the stems to open up water absorption. (If they get too short, move them to a different vase.)

What I do is the following spray a paper with water so it is wet, then roll the drooping tulips in it, put them back in the vase and put the vase in a cool place [overnight] like a kitchen or shower/bathroom. The next day remove the newspaper, the tulips should be straight by now. Greet from Greet.
