Books I read in December

"The Good Daughter, by Karin Slaughter"

Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint. One runs for her life. One is left behind…

Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn's happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father — Pikeville's notorious defense attorney — devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night.

Twenty-eight years later, and Charlie has followed in her father's footsteps to become a lawyer herself — the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again — and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized — Charlie is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it's a case that unleashes the terrible memories she's spent so long trying to suppress. Because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly thirty years ago won't stay buried forever…

Packed with twists and turns, brimming with emotion and heart, The Good Daughter is fiction at its most thrilling.

I think this is the first book I have read by Karin Slaughter?  It had my attention right from the get go.  What I liked about this book was the twists and turns in it.  You think you know where it's going, then it changes course or something else pops up.  There were a couple of things I guessed correctly but there were many more I had no clue about.  Some of the details are a bit blood and guts, so be aware if you're not into reading about that sort of thing!

You do need to concentrate when reading this book.  There is so much detail and the research that had to go into this book it must have been intense.  I borrowed this book from my daughter-in-law who is a lawyer and I could see why she is a fan of this author.

I do think I will be looking out for more Karin Slaughter books when I want to read an intense book.

I have made a start on this book, I got it at Dollarama:

Fly Girls by Keith O'Brien

I am hoping to get back into my reading in January, I was too busy with other things during December to fit a lot of reading in.

I will say, I did pick up some neat children's books out of Dollarama recently.  Well worth checking out.

I always enjoy book reviews so thank you! I'm off to visit the library web site to see if they have that Karin Slaughter book. I don't think I've read any of her books so it will be a good test. This year I have made a plan to keep track of the books I read. We'll see if that will 'stick' for the entire year. Happy New Year!

Both of these sound very good to me. I'll be posting my December books later this week and the year-end wrap up soon!

I've tried Karin Slaughter a couple times but I'm not a fan, I do prefer British crime for reading, (although I don't mind watching American crime). My reading slows down in December too, it's a busy time. I'll be blogging my year in books over the weekend. Happy New Year!
