Last Tango in Halifax and other tv programmes

My mam kindly sent me the three series from this programme as a get well/relax while healing gift.  We have watched all three series and thoroughly enjoyed them all.  After each episode finished though, we (dh and I) decided our families are quite normal after watching all the craziness in the the families on the Last Tango in Halifax programmes!

There is supposed to be a fourth series, but as yet it hasn't been released.  Have you watched this show, and did you enjoy it?

I just bought the first season of Downtown Abbey, so that is what we are going to watch next......I know a way behind the times.  I have seen the last series of this but not the first five.  Maggie Smith is just perfect in this.  Are you a fan of this series?

I also watched The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel the other day and thoroughly enjoyed that as well.  Have you seen that?  Maggie Smith and Judi Dench are wonderful in both of the Marigold Hotel movies.

What are your thoughts on any of these?

We have very similar tastes. I loved Last Tango, have never watched Downton and I relished both the Marigold Hotel films.

I hope they do make a final series of Last Tango 😊

I've watched all of these and thoroughly enjoyed them. Poldark and Victoria might interest you. You need Netflix. I'm watching The Gilmore Girls on there. Offspring is on Netflix too.

I loved Downton Abbey! I am a big fan of Dame Maggie Smith and her son Toby Stephens. I believe Maggie Smith is the most talented actress of all times. She is hilarious in DA.

I absolutely LOVED Last Tango in Halifax, and Best Exotic Marigold.

I watched all of Downton, I enjoyed it in the beginning but thought it
was struggling towards the end.

Like Anna I am working my way through the Gilmore Girls and loving it.
I'm about half way through the final series now.

You will love Downton Abbey, sheer joy.

Our library has Downton Abbey so I'll have to check out that one, and see if they have the others too. We don't have a TV service, so whatever the library has or is free on the internet is all we can watch.

Last Tango in Halifax is by far the most endearing TV seroies we have ever encountered. My husband and I have watched it hundreds of times and never tire of the characters and subject matter. They have all become special friends. Each time we watch any episode, it is like watching again for the first time--we always pick up something new. If we have had a rough day, we always reach for these videos in the evening to bring us back to a comfort level. We call it our therapy when things are not quite right, and when things are good, they are simply just good company. I don't know what we would do without these wonderful people. The writing is absolutely amazing and the acting is superb! Thank you each and every one of you for being part of our family!

Absolutely love LTIH...heartwarming, funny and incredibly acted by axstelkar cast. Sarah Lancashire in particular is astounding! Best depiction of a solid, loving, sharing gay relationship I have ever seen...and I know because I have been in one for 25 years! Think, you and love you all!!

I've watched them all and loved them equally! Maggie Smith is fantastic! Did you know she got her really big break acting at the Stratford Festival right here in Canada?

LTiH is one of my absolute favourites! Another one of my favourites is Call The Midwife, the first couple of series aren't as good but from series 3 onwards is AMAZING! Especially good if you are looking for a similar LGBT aspect to LTiH x

The only one I have heard of is Downton Abbey and we enjoyed the first several seasons before we lost interest. I don't know why, we just stopped watching it. I have always loved Maggie Smith and Judy Dench. We watch a lot of PBS with them in the programs.
Blessings,
Betsy

I have watched the last two on Netflix and now after reading about Last Tango in Halifax here I think that will be the next series I watch.

If you get the chance watch Mr. Selfridge and Call the Midwife. Both are very good British shows. I liked them as well.

God bless.

There is always something to love about Masterpiece Theatre shows, and I do not ever miss a single one if I can help it at all. Last Tango in Halifax is my very favorite because it is so down to earth and realistic. I adore the kindness in the hearts and minds of the characters as well as the stupidity with which they act at times. It is real life presented in such a way that I can enjoy it as entertainment. Upstairs/Downstairs and Dowton Abby were near perfection and so is LTIH.

Loved them all Gill! When we visited the UK (I'm an Aussie) in 2014, we visited a fellow blogger who lived in Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. Janice proudly showed us the carpark which was used as a location of the first episode of Last Tango in Halifax. Tried to visit the setting of Downton, but it was all booked out! :-(
My husband and I love UK shows and movies and it's wonderful that we have 2 pay tv channels showing such programmes.

I haven't tried Tango in Halifax, though I have seen it on Netflix. I love everything Dame Maggie Smith has ever done!

Thoughs are I LOVE them all...I need to finish the Last Tango In Halifax...got stopped watching it for some reason and never went back to it. I see someone mentioned Scott & Bailey above...I love it, too, and if you ever get the chance, watch New Tricks. I like the first 9 seasons...then it started getting new characters and it was like losing good friends and I never did get into the newer characters.

I love that you have a 'mam' - I have a mam too. I tried to get my children to call me mam, but it's mum, without fail. Are you from the north-east of England originally?
