At what age are you a senior?

We have booked to go away on vacation to Ohio at a place called Walnut Creek.  Doesn't that name sound ever so like "Little House on the Priaire-ish!!"  Due to "security" issues that is all I can tell you about it at the moment...LOL

Anyhow, went to book the hotel and they had a seniors discount and you only have to be 55 to be classed as a senior.  I was under the impression that the minimum age would be at least 60 and more typically 65?  Pleased to say despite dh not being thrilled about being classed as a senior; it did at least save us nearly $100 on our bill!!!!

I did have a "senior," moment on Saturday when I went and lost my glasses.  We had called into McDonald's and I had them out to read something on the receipt.  Put them back in the case and I thought I put them back in my handbag.  They must have fallen out onto the floor and I didn't see them.

An hour later went back, as we retraced our steps of where we had been and there they were in the exact same place.  So what does that tell you?  They don't clean up all that often!!!

Blind as a bat though when I don't have my glasses despite the fact I only need them for reading and close up.  I am due for new glasses but going on vacation is a priority over glasses I think!!!

I agree every time lol. I'm amazed no one found them and at least handed them in

I think anyone who reaches 55 is deserving of a discount! My co worker is always misplacing her glasses, I wear mine all the time so no danger of losing them.

Here in Texas there is not really a "standard" for senior citizen discounts -- it really depends on what business you are dealing with. I remember one day when I was visiting my neighborhood Kroger (grocery) and the checker asked me if I wanted my senior citizen discount I reacted with great shock -- I was only 40 but had started greying. I guess she realized she had crossed the line and so she went over a little farther and told me I should dye my hair like hers -- jet black/waist length locks which didn't complement her long, narrow face as all -- in fact, she was rather reminiscent of a horse -- and I told her no thank you and stormed out in a huff! I know, childish and over-reactive but I never again walked into that store on a Wednesday which was "senior citizen" day again! Now I am well past that age and qualify for those discounts everywhere and have even learned to ask for "senior" menus in restaurants because they have smaller portions and cost less.

I'm guessing they'd stuck to the floor!

Ooh that would be me as a senior then but my other half is younger than me.

It depends on the establishment, but from my own point of view, I'd say retirement age.

A few are at 55, most at 60. It does pay if you can get a senior rate though. Love those savings.

There is a tea room/meeting place a few miles from me called 'Evergreens' - for the 'over 50s'.

Most times in the States 55 will get you a senior rate. I don't like being called it either but if it saves me some money then what the heck!!
