It's hot and humid again, and of course I have been bitten again, behind the ear this time. So I have put my Benedryl pen in my handbag to cart around with me. I was bitten between walking out of the house and getting into the car?
We originally come from Appleby and I thought I'd share a link of the annual Appleby Horse Fair, yes it's just like the programme "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding." I'll share my thoughts of living in Appleby when the fair is on tomorrow.
"The Great Catch," by Lorna Seilstad
It's the beginning of a new century at Lake Manawa resort in Iowa, but some things never change. When Emily Graham's meddlesome aunts and grandmother take it upon themselves to find her a husband among the resort guests, the spunky suffragist is determined to politely decline each and every suitor. She has neither the time nor the need for a man in her busy life.
Carter Stockton, a recent college graduate and a pitcher for the Manawa Owls baseball team, intends to enjoy every minute of the summer before he is forced into the straitlaced business world of his father.
When their worlds collide, neither Emily nor Carter could have guessed what would come next. Will Carter strike out? Or will Emily cast her vote for a love that might cost her dreams?
The perfect summer novel, A Great Catch will enchant you with its breezy setting and endearing characters.
First let me say I love the expression of Emily's face on the front cover of the book; and it truly is what I imagined her character to look like while reading the book. The two aunts are great characters and really are part of the story. Again I didn't guess the "whodunit," but that's fine. It was a nice insight to the late 1800's, early 1900's and it was a really easy book to read as it didn't take a lot of work to digest the story.
Stars out of 5: 4, a great book to take on vacation with you and one of a series of books.

The biting bug must be waiting for you, Gill. Next time you go out you'll have to go with all guns blazing. This year has been better for me, not one bite so far. Last year the biters never stopped. I ended up with smothering myself in anti-bite lotion and carried an aerosol with me at all times so I could top up the anti-treatment.
I need to make a list of the books you have liked...and will be waiting to hear what you though of living in Appleby.
Hmm...I could be little black flies getting at you! I react pretty badly to them, but the worst bite for me to get is a spider bite. Those make me swell up like crazy and can even make me feel dizzy and nauseous!
This book looks interesting, I am going to put it on my list. Going to the bookstore is becoming an overwhelming event because of the choice of books -- I am relying more and more on other's recommendations.
I am anxious to hear more about your fair -- funny you should mention My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding -- it is just now being shown here in the US and I am really enjoying it! So curious, in fact, because we have a community of Irish Travelers just blocks from where I live -- IN TEXAS!!! One of them got in a lot of trouble a few years back but I have always been curious about them. Fun show.
