Christmas Day night............

Well here I am sitting here at 5pm on Christmas Day evening, sitting in front of the fire, full to the gills and ever so contented.  Santa was good to all of us, we all did very well, and the kids were happy with what they received.

The meal was good, as was the company.  I must say though its a lot of work for a short period of time.

Dd brought her cat to stay with us while she was staying with us.  Now Olive isn't familiar with dogs, and isn't that keen of them it seems.  When she saw Molly she arched her back, all the hair stood on end, she started to hiss and swatted at Molly, then disappeared under the bed for the rest of the day.  Molly of course started to howl, but I am pleased to say she has since lost interest in her.

This is a new bird to me that came to feed the other day, I think it is a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet.  Not sure if it is a male or a female, as the male only has its "ruby crown" during mating season.  Pretty little bird though.  The light was really bad as well that day, so this is my best photo.

Glad you had such a lovely time. Sounds like Molly and your daughter's cat came to an understanding and decided to leave each other alone ;)
I have never seen a ruby throated kinglet before but your little bird reminds me of a female goldfinch. I'm no expert though and hope someone can positively identify it. You've got a lovely shot of it and also I like your header photo very much. So pretty!

We took Stitch with us to Amy's and he and the kitten took an instant dislike to each other, so had to be kept in separate rooms! I'm pleased it's all done for another year!! xxx

A belated Merry Christmas to you Gill! It sounds as if you had a lovely day! Your new bird visitor is charming and I did appreciate the story of your daughter's cat, Olive! Katie is home with us for awhile and brought her male cat, Obee with her. Our Calico (female) Zoey was a fondling, bottled fed by humans, and really has no idea how to deal with his rambunctious playful behavior. He is very well intentioned, quite sweet, actually. However, she'll have nothing to do with him since he stood on his back legs in front of her and tried to box at her! He is a very, very quirky character...so funny! Of course, now she doesn't trust him now so she keeps her distance while he just adores her and follows her around to no end.

I am so happy you had such a contented day. Ours was happy, but a bit busy. We drove down to see my dad on Christmas eve, and back home again yesterday to spend the afternoon and evening with Mike's mom. The traffic was minimal, which was a blessing, and the visits were very pleasant.

I'm off now to do some tidying up!
Have a lovely weekend with your family.

Warmly,
Tracey

P.S. I still hope to do a post linking back to you (have been a terrible procrastinator about it) if you don't mind!

Oh, dogs and cats! We're still trying to figure out how to visit my mother's house. Between her over-protective dog and our very large dog, we just can't figure out how to safely sort them out.

I am so glad you and your family had a wonderful Christmas Day, Gill. Our blessings were abundant, also, here on the Farmstead. Praising God for His continued faithfulness!

I hope you will be able to enjoy several leftovers now so that the work in preparing your meal will bless you with quick meals in the days to come.

Gill. I must say that your words of wisdom.. "a lot of work for a wee bit of time" is so very true. I feel.. sooo.. beat. I've cleaned and cleaned, and cooked, baked, prepared, washed loads and loads, took the dyson for 2 spin arounds over the past few days and poof... it's still a mess.. and now I'll need to head out for pre bed time tinkles for miss maggie and prepare another cookie tray, clean the counters, prep the coffee and take out some bacon for tomorrow's brunch. Only thing about holidays here.. is that I have to do all the work. No holiday for me.

Give me a fire, a bird feeder, a dog that doesn't want 24/7 attention, a good book or someone who just wants to play cribbage for a wee bit and that's a holiday for me.. hell I can't remember when I didn't have a 'holiday' here. That ride north is starting to look pretty darn good to me right about now.

hugs and kisses as I dry my tears.. I'm tired that's all, but thanks for the ear

I am always nervous at the first interactions between cats and dogs... My Lab used to bug the cats sooo much but after a while they used to share the couch together. Molly seems pretty mellow so she would have made friends with Olive if they'd stayed longer... that's such a pretty name, Olive, btw :-)
