The rising price of Halloween candy.........

I was reading this article and amongst the things it was saying, was that due to the rising cost of cocoa worldwide that giving out chips/crisps might be cheaper for you!

So when we were in Walmart over the weekend we had a look at various Halloween candy and did agree that maybe the chips route was the way to go.

So we picked up these:

I figure that I will give each child a bag of chips and a bag of candy.  I have enough there was 135 kids.  Now I have the girls sleeping over the week before, so at a minimum we will still be able to accommodate 125 kids.  After that I will close the door and turn the light off.  A lot depends on the weather.  If it's nice and warm, and dry I can see us getting 125 kids.  If it's cold and wet, who knows how few.

I do know my husband can't remember how to use the washer or dryer, but does remember where the guy gives out full sized chocolate bars, as he mentioned it when we were buying the Halloween stuff!!  Just saying 🙄

My surrogate daughter makes up over 200 bags, and lasts her around an hour.  Whether she will make up more, I'm not sure.

Do you open your doors for the trick or treaters?  How many do you buy for?

I used to when I lived in a house but now we live in a sheltered housing complex we no longer receive visits.

We have no trick or treaters here since we live in a rural area. I love your idea of the crisps, that is a much easier cost to absorb over candy. Some of the bags of candy bars are almost $20 here now. 😳

I guess Halloween treats are rising in cost just like everything else. Living in an apartment building means we don't have trick or treaters coming to our door although normally the building management does shell out in the lobby of one of our three buildings.

My husband loves to see the children on the 31st. He goes over to our son's house as he has more visitors than us. We pick up two boxes of Wagon Wheels at Costco (total 80) and there are two boxes of fruit snacks in our son's pantry. they both said the Wagon Wheels went over well.

Our house stays dark. We have about four children on our street, so the husband makes up bags and gives them to the Mums for handing out. I feel funny about our street. Well cul de sac. We live next door to someone who used to built a haunted house and invite everyone from his church to come. The first year we had over 300 kids at the door. We also have a lot of Muslim families who don't participate in the treat giving as they don't believe in the traditioin but whose children suddenly appear with pillowcases. I just don't know. So we go to our sons.

No trick or treaters where I live ...

It's true though, the cost of sweets/candy/chocolate has increased quite a lot!

All the best Jan

The candy has really gone up this year. I usually purchase one box of chocolate bars and give lots out to the one or two children that come around. It seems we get less and less every year.

God bless.

Hi Gill, I live in a 6th floor apartment where most of the residents are seniors or disabled folks, so we have no trick or treaters. Besides, to be honest, I am happy we don't, because the price of everything has skyrocketed so much this is just an unneeded extra expense.

I noticed that on my last Costco visit and decided I might give out packets of snacks or little individually wrapped cookie packets instead. And better to be stuck with those if the crowd is small!
