Did anyone watch this? I watched two episodes but couldn't finish the third episode. I found the third episode just dragged along.
The two episodes I did watch though were really interesting. I learnt a lot of things I did not know. For instance about how the pumping stations did need replacing before Katrina hit.
What didn't surprise me was that one level of government/authority could not work as a team with other level's of government/authority. That's the same all over the world. Working together for the common good seems to go out of the window with people in positions of authority to my mind.
I did like General Russel Honore, who was the commander in charge of the US Army in New Orleans after Katrina hit. I thought he led with common sense, where other's didn't.
I will say, it confused me as to why people choose to live in a place that hurricane's hit on a regular basis and is below sea level? I guess if they have lived there all their lives it's all they know?
I will say it did make me think; which is always a good thing. I have always wanted to visit New Orleans, especially during Mardi Gras, but would want to view the parade from a balcony away from the crowds in the street. So I don't think that will ever happen.
Have you ever visited New Orleans?

I'll have to look out for that one, I do like watching programmes about the weather.
I often wonder why people choose to live in places like this too.
I have been to New Orleans twice. The first time on a bus tour around the city which concentrated on Katrina and the flooding. Very interesting to actually see the reasons why there was so much damage. Also to hear the commentary about who did and who didn't do what would have avoided the flood.
The second time was just four years ago, mainly for the music, as the entire trip concentrated on visiting places in the U.S. where music is the draw. Nashville, Natchez, Elvis Presley, Mississippi and New Orleans. I had a great time.
I did watch the entire series. My husband was in the Army with Russel Honore many years ago and told me he has always been a great leader.
Watching it made me thankful we no longer live in SW Florida.
What struck me was his common sense approach to things, that were lacking in other levels of government. It was refreshing.
We will have to go at some point, I think it would be a very interesting place to visit.
my thought exactly, but who knows?
me too, they can be very interesting
I think based on the demographics of the area - it's a cheap place to live and it's probably a lot of low income folks living there, subsequent govts just ignored the area's needs!
I haven't but it sounds very intriguing.
I've not watched it or visited New Orleans.
All the best Jan
The closest I've come to visiting New Orleans is to watch it depicted in various tv shows.
I’ve never been to the USA. And considering what’s happening I don’t foresee a trip there anytime soon
We all live with something I guess. Hurricane areas. Flood prone areas
Earthquake and volcanos.
We just get on and go about our lives No use thinking about it. If I can’t do anything to stop it. Just be prepared
Hmm, I will have to watch that. Like you I will never understand how people can live in an area prone to hurricanes and flooding.
God bless.
