Grocery Budget, Blueberries and Rhubarb......

Not doing too great this month with the grocery budget as I have already spent $91.92, but have had savings of    $27.77.  Mind you $17 of the total spent was on allergy medication, as my allergies are playing up something awful.  Wasn't sure if I should include the pills in my total, but decided to do anyway.

On Tuesday I popped into town to run a couple of errands and I picked up a couple of Blueberry Bushes, variety Legacy.  They were on sale for $6.99 each.  They look very straggly but you never know they might be okay.

This is one of my blueberry bushes that I already got growing.
The rhubarb is growing, and so is the dandelions and weeds!!!

I think they should be fine. Don't forget to trim away rubbish/rubbing/crossing branches from them and your current one if there are any.

My raspberry bushes are coming nicely; I lost quite a bit of my rhubarb as it is too low of a spot (too wet), so we need to get the 2 moved before I loose them too. Lots of Rhubarb around at others I know, so not going to do without.

I hope your blueberries turn out wonderful. I bought only one plant a few years ago and I think I should have bought two to cross polinate. Not sure, not a blueberry expert, but mine did not do well at all. Rhubarb on the other hand! I have nine plants and give so much away. I still have rhubarb in the freezer from last year. Yours is higher then mine right now. I shall be picking next week.

Lots of dandelions here too, but we will pick them for dandelion wine at the weekend.

My allergies are playing tricks on me as well right now, talk about itchy ears and nose!

Good for you for the blueberry bushes, you can make yummy pies and muffins with them!

I always include over the counter medication in my grocery totals - unfortunate how much those cost. I find Walmart, Costco and believe it or not Rexall house brands generally are the cheapest in AB for over the counter meds.

I have never successfully grown blueberries as my soil is too alkaline. Saskatoons, black currants, red currants, gooseberries and raspberries all do well...but blueberries, NO!
