Hi - those are not moth nests - they are caterpiller nests - and yes, cut the branches and burn them, or you will lose your leaves, and the tree will lose a year's growth.
Hi Gill, I have been so enjoying your move to the country. The first thing I thought of was a butterfly bush. My mil had one in her yard and it looks very similar. They can grow to quite a height. They are wonderful for attracting, of course, butterflies and small beautiful birds. Heather
